Late Night Lullabies (Gajevy)
“You’ll be a shorty like ya ma, sha la la!”
The voice was soft, but it was enough to rouse Levy from sleep. Her head was filled with fog, but through it, she heard the voice again.
“I hope ya have her eyes, Sha bo ba!”
Levy realized it was Gajeel’s voice, and she kept her eyes shut and faked sleep for fear that he would stop if he realized she was awake. She wanted to hear where exactly this late night lullaby was going.
“Bet ya tough like me, da de de!”
Levy had to fight the corners of her mouth to keep from smiling. Sure, Gajeel would sing to the baby when she was awake, but it wasn’t this sweet or tender. His voice, usually gruff, was softer. She wanted so badly to open her eyes and watch his little performance, but she didn’t.
“I’ll teach ya to eat iron too, sha da do!”
She couldn’t help it; Levy giggled. It was quiet and brief, but it was enough.
“Are you awake?” Gajeel demanded, sounding scandalized.
Reluctantly, Levy opened her eyes and blinked as they adjusted to the dark. The moon flooded throw the window, illuminating a pissed off dragon slayer lying next to her. He glowered at her, but his red eyes shone in embarrassment. Obviously, this song wasn’t for Levy’s ears.
“How long have you been awake?” he asked, and Levy blushed.
“Don’t be mad,” she replied slowly, biting back a smile.
It was obvious Gajeel realized she’d been awake for more than the last line, and he rolled over to pout. Levy rolled her eyes, and she poked his back that was now facing her.
“Don’t do that,” she said, “I liked it!”
Gajeel just grunted in response, and Levy sighed. She scooted closer to him in bed until her protruding belly brushed against his back. She reached out to hug him, but because of the space her belly was taking up, her hands barely reached his body. Levy huffed in frustration and rolled onto her back.
“I liked your song and I tried to hug you but I’m too fat.”
There was a pause, and then Gajeel groaned and turned back to face her. “You’re not fat,” he replied, shaking his head, “You’re a baby-making goddess.”
“Baby-making goddess,” she repeated, stifling a snort.
“Yes,” Gajeel said firmly. He pulled her against his naked, muscular chest and kissed her cheek and then her lips. His hand gently lay on her belly, and Levy gazed up at Gajeel.
“Will you sing more of your song?”
“Ma and I won’t let no one mess with ya, la ba da!”
I have this head canon that Gajeel sings to Levy’s baby bump at night when she’s sleeping, and his songs are super mushy and he doesn’t want anyone to hear them.Â
