hi, same anon who said alex isn't seen as feminine. insanely long explanation but I hope it makes more sense lol
I will say I was completely thinking about how femininity is seen in the f1 circle, but even in society moc are (exaggeratedly) masculinized and infantalized and/or feminized by that same society despite it being seemingly contradicting. lewis, checo, arvid, yuki, etc. all aren't perceived the same as white drivers. whenever they express any dissatisfaction with their team/car/whatever, they all face racialized masculinization. alex does too. for asian men in red bull it's a bit more complicated, since in society most asian men r seen as nonthreatening, but they're still seen as being irrationally/overly angry with the team, either said by the team themselves or by f1 fans.
now femininity in f1 is also messy because by the media, and even other drivers, it's seen as a negative trait. george, nico r., charles are all called feminine as an insult, but for fans of the drivers, it isn't necessarily something negative. george is generally seen as feminine for his personality (likes shaking things up) and his looks, but like you've said, alex's personality is similar. but one is seen as feminine while he other isn't. which leads me to my next point.
white drivers who aren't necessarily feminine (think oscar, max, lando) are called girls, girlfriends, wives, etc. all the time!! but alex, who isn't doesn't all out reject femininity, isn't. I also don't think he's particularly feminine, but why isn't he afforded the same treatment? which imo just comes off as ppl ignoring his, slightly, feminine qualities simply because he's brown. of course, this could simply do with what circles I'm in, or just that they have different fans, but I thought/think (I'm open to changing my mind) that it is due to his ethnicity. I'll also add that my perspective is different since I'm not asian, I'm hispanic but I'm sick of people thinking one can't be cute or feminine or whatever else simply because of skin color. and also perception of asian men is something that's insanely coloristâthe stereotypes against east asian men, south asian men, east asian men, etc. are completely different and biggest difference between these groups is skin color.
This is an interesting analysis thank you for explaining. I also think the chronic invisibility of Alex (for a number of reasons including his race) would also play into this
