Weâre Going Places!! 11 of our chapter members and many professors from MassArt are leaving for the NAEA National Convention 2015 in New Orleans this week! While we are there, there will be an annual âSwirlâ. This event is great, we will be meeting with the colleagues of our professors so we can create connections across the country! Â

"When insights seem to come out of nowhereâfor instance, say, while you suds up in the showerâthey, in fact, come from somewhere. An oft-cited paper by John Kounios of Drexel University and Mark Beeman of Northwestern University contends that âalthough the experience of insight is sudden and can seem disconnected from the immediately preceding thought, these studies show that insight is the culmination of a series of brain states and processes operating at different time scales.â
Expressed in plain English, this means that a single moment of insight is the result of thinking that happens before itâoften, the authors state, due to reorganizing or restructuring the elements of a situation or problem. This echoes the favored Fast Company definition of creativity, that itâs finding the connections between seemingly unrelated things.â

Some photos from Art Education Open Studios last week! Hopefully this will turn into an annual or bi-annual event to show the amazing range of work our department produces!Â

Drive three hours north of New York City, and venture (barely) across state borders, and you might find yourself in a town called North Adams, Massachusetts. With a population of just under 14,000 residents, the city plays home to one of the art worlâŚ
On Tuesday we had a meeting that centered on sharing important concepts and ideas from the Massachusetts Art Education Conference! Take a look at some of our notes and if you have any questions about the conference email us and we can do our best to fill you in!
We then shifted our attention to talking about the National Art Education Association Convention 2015 in New Orleans coming up in March! We are working on finalizing a Google Form to apply to go to the conference and more information will be provided in an email! Also keep an eye out for another possible info night the first week of December!
More photos to come from our MAEA Recap tonight!Â
#CrossingBrooklyn features 100+ works from 35 artists who work in virtually every medium, including painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, installation, video, and performance, linked only by place and by an engagement with the modern world. Over the next several weeks, Brooklyn Magazine will be rolling out profiles of ten artists who appear in the exhibit.
âKambui Olujimiâs video installation In Your Absence the Skies Are All the Same plays out on two adjoining walls in a dark room of the Brooklyn Museum. The walls are given over totally to quadrisected views of the sky that slowly throb and pulsate, as if you were looking at the sky through a kaleidoscope.
It would be a calming, beguiling experience, except that four speakers in the cardinal corners of the room periodically emit snippets of various recordings of âIâm Gonna Make You Love Me,â sometimes blaring, sometimes faint, as if someone were playing the song on a radio outside, and you were overhearing it drift through the window. The video and audio are on unsynced loops, and the dislocation between the peaceful shots of clouds and the rousing Motown song is vaguely hallucinogenic. You might see a sunset sky with a calming organ; four hours later, the sunset sky might be accompanied by a cacophony of sounds.â
More on Kambui Olujimi and his video featured in #CrossingBrooklyn here.
