His name is Richard "Ricky" Herman. Ever since he was born, hes had bizarre encounters with what he calls 'souls'. He sees strange, often disturbing creatures next to or touching anyone he sees, which he believes reflect a person's true feelings. All the people in his life that he tried to talk to about this brushed him off as either over-imaginative or a complete schizo. He rarely had friends, and was a constant target for harassment and bullying. Lacking anyone who seemed to care, he became very quiet and spent as much time as he could ignoring the rest of the world. This only made him a bigger target.
His parents thought he was both sick and stupid. His dad would reward him for things most parents wouldn't even notice, and his mom would use him for pity points. They didn't mind that their son was completely alone, because they thought he was too dumb to notice. Ricky was never dumb. He spent most of his time reading classic horror and taking photos. Nobody cared about his hobbies.
The only good part of being uncared for was that he could pretty much do whatever he wanted. He became very interested in the paranormal/the occult as he grew up. Learning this stuff made him realize his world wasn't as normal as people assumed. If you don't question anything, it will be normal. If you question everything, you'll be surprised. Parasites that eat brains, zombies living in lakes, diseases that destroy DNA, creatures made of radiation, and possibly even eldritch gods. He needs to tell the world about how doomed it is...But the world never listened before.
