*trusts her judgement more than his even if he hates the plan*

*puts her life first ahead of his, whether it is because he loves her or for the sake of battle*

*doesn't open his eyes, even if she is right there, detransformed in front of him*

*doesn't look because she told him not to*

*jumps off a building because Ladybug told him to*

*doesn't follow her to try and find out what she is hiding, even if he is mad at her for keeping secrets from him*

Chat Blanc, but he managed to spare ladybug and they both go crazy.

(You know I’m surprised every time I actually get a prompt for something, even when I’ve asked for one. XD Thanks! This is delightfully angsty!)

At first, she runs and hides, vulnerable and scared and praying for the jagged cracks in her earrings to seal. Her frantic footfalls echo across streets filled with silent, ashen statues, each time making her stomach twist with dread. She doesn’t know how long she tries to hide from him; weeks, months, impossible to tell with the sky hazy as it is. The water levels rise, and she only knows that soon she will run out of places to hide.

Still, she runs, because she can’t face the reality that this is forever. That she failed. That she can’t save him, her kitty. Her prince. Her Adrien.

At first, he chases her, demanding that she fix things like she always does, as though he doesn’t know that his powers shattered her Miraculous at the very start. He never mentions Hawk Moth, no doubt burying his father in some part of his memory he’d rather forget. It’s just the two of them now, after all.

Then he starts to beg.

“Come back to me, Marinette.”

“Don’t leave me alone.”

“Please, I won’t hurt you. Please!”

Eventually, he stops chasing, and she stops hiding. And they start to deal with this world that they live in.

He doesn’t need to eat, but she does. She hoards whatever can be salvaged while he prowls the rooftops, aimless, restless. Fish becomes her staple, and she figures out how to boil water as the sea takes over the city. Tikki’s voice pops into her head every now and again, encouraging her, pushing her forward. She should probably be concerned about that, but she’s lonely.

Adrien is, too. She can hearing him crying sometimes, on starless, empty nights, the sound hopeless and heavy where it sits in her heart. Not quiet sobs, but echoing waves of agony that bring tears to her eyes, too.

It’s on a whim that she seeks him out, her tired body moving automatically towards the person who she has always been at the center of her orbit. He sits with his back to her on the tower, humming a sad song. The white of his suit used to be blinding. Right now, she only sees her Chat Noir.

“Can I…come sit with you, Adrien?”

His ears perk, his tail twitches, and he turns to her. Hopeful. Elated. “Milady? I thought you weren’t coming back!”

She smiles, taking that as an invitation and walking over to him, cozies up against his side and feels the relief of being right where she belongs. He starts to purr.

“Of course I came back. Silly kitty. I’m just sorry it took me so long.”

He relaxes against her, and his tail curls around her waist. He sighs, sounding content. “No need to apologize, Marinette. I’m always happy to wait for you.”

They both turn towards the broken horizon, their fingers slotting together so easily, even after all this time. The water is placid below them, and time feels like it’s frozen.

It’s perfect.

This literally took me nearly a long time to finish. But I survived. Should I do another one? This was a long process so probably not in a long time.
