Like Yelena was broken out of literal mind control at roughly 27 years old - if we take “You got out—Dreykov made sure no one could escape” to mean that he started using the chemical subjugation shortly after Natasha defected (and if we estimate that Natasha was around 20 at the time) then that would mean Yelena was mind controlled since about age 16 (younger if Nat got out earlier)

After getting free, Yelena lives only three years as an adult with her own agency before meeting Kate (technically it’s been 8 years since she was freed, but since she was blipped, five of them don’t count) and Kate as a college senior could be considered as having anywhere from 0-4 years of adult life experience (depending on your take on whether or not college would count)

Like I understand wanting representation but also getting mad at other fans for simply headcannoning her being in love with another character is weird. She’s a fictional character and we can make her however we want. It’s not morally wrong to ship her with anyone. People ship two straight characters of the same gender together all the time. But don’t ever talk about how you like Bishova or Boblena.

“Oh my god they’re just friends let them just be friends!” In the movies and shows, yes she is only friends with Bob and Kate but in the fandom world anyone can make that different because that’s what fanfiction and fandom is.

i get to watch the same two people find each other in every universe possible, and fall in love with each other every time in new, different, creative ways.

i get to see other people’s perceptions of a piece of media, a ship and characters i love so much, and how they view their personalities, roles and dynamics. and i get to decide for myself whether that’s the ending i want for them, or if i want to imagine something different happening.

i get to enjoy other people’s hard work and pure, unfiltered dedication to their craft. i see people put their time and passion into creating new worlds and realities for pre-conceived characters - for both their own satisfaction and the enjoyment of their readers.

i get to interact with them directly, and tell them how loved and appreciated their works are.

i get to speak to other people with similar interests to me - sharing, recommending, discussing these pieces of fiction with each other - through fanfiction, and find comfort and community within this.

i find the creativity, nuance, hardwork, community, joy, togetherness and core humanity of fanfiction (and fandoms as a whole) truly beautiful.
