How about all those Lokis who grew up dreaming of the throne and feeling that the waking world was denying them what must surely be their destiny or why else would a gold chair haunt their thoughts while they sleep?
It's not their fault if the dream didn't specify which throne, is it?
Lots of people saying "don't worry, there are so many Loki variants and only one of them is in the tree so we'll see Loki again" but I've gotten attached to this Loki with this character arc and I want Mobius (and the others) to reunite with this Loki
This is one of my major issues with the concepts of variants in the MCU: they are either treated as interchangeable (maybe not surprising, since the other characters - heroes and villains alike - are generally treated as interchangeable as well, hence the same-y movies) or as completely unrelated to each other (what do the Loki variants have to do with each other, exactly?) And in both those cases, the question becomes, what's the point, then?
And anyway, as OP said, the character we've gotten attached to is the original one! You can't just swap some other variant of them in. We don't know anything about those variants. Why would we care about them, let alone care about them as much as the character we've gotten to know and love?
Variants (and the multiverse) have the potential to be very interesting. They could tell us something about the characters from the main universe, by showing us how they differ, which personality traits are intrinsic and which were caused by the particular circumstances of their lives, and so on. But that's not how the MCU treats the variants. They have managed to take a potentially interesting idea and made it bland. Again.
You can tell the difference between No Way Home and Multiverse of Madness. NWH was about seeing the characters again. MoM was about the spectacle of seeing Patrick Stewart and Hayley Atwell on screen again.
It means something when Amazing!Spidey saves MJ. It means something when it's Raimi!Spidey is stopping MCU!Spider from killing Goblin with the Glider. Even when Doc Oct says he's proud of who Peter become. It can't just be any Doctor Octopus saying that. To mean something It has to be the Raimi version, that version of who Otto was and the relationship he had with Peter. NWH is about the characters that people know.
Who cares if Wanda kills the illuminati? Patrick Stewart!Xavier has already died at least twice already. This isn't the Peggy people care about. MoM really makes the concept of variants not matter because they are not characters. They are "thing you like, audience." and that's only going to hold attention for so long before people lose interest that's all they end up being.
For those of you who arenât familiar with Norse Mythology, there is a tree called Yggdrasil. Now Iâm not super familiar with it but itâs generally known as the Tree of Life that houses all the nine realms and every living soul, and is incredibly closely associated with Odin. THIS. IS DRIVING ME CRAZY.
Iâm not very knowledgeable on this topic so feel free to add or correct me lmao-
It is!!!! Also, couple of fun facts about Yggdrasil is that the association with Odin that you mention is because in the poem of HĂĄvamĂĄl thereâs a specific stanza that mentions how Odin sacrificed himself by hanging on the tree for nine days (wich is where the association to Yggdrasil comes from since it holds the Nine Norse Worlds).
Odin did this as sort of a sacrifice to himself and in doing so he learned runes which he then gave to mankind as a way to access magic.
The entire arc of Loki âof Asgardâ began with him desperately searching to belong and be worthy of carrying the title âOdinsonâ and ends with him doing a feat even more impressive, heâs using all the knowledge and magic he has to keep the entire Tree of Life beating.
Maybe that actually was RagnarĂśk though. Obviously it isn't completely true to the original myth (and MCU already had their mini RagnarĂśk), but a pretty consistent piece among every form of the myth that I could find is that RagnarĂśk destroys existence and then brings about the creation of a new existence/universe/world/etc. That is effectively what happened isn't it? Loki tore apart existence (the sacred timeline) to bring about the existence of this new massive multiverse.
Y'all, I am freaking out so much from this episode. So much happened. So much lore was dropped in under an hour that I can barely even process all of it. Somebody please help me.

i have SO MANY thoughts on the new episode holy shit, first off my girl sylvie is too hot to work at MCDONALDS they did her dirty.
second of all brad being the only one to ever call loki and sylvies relationship weird was a major unexpected W and it KILLED ME and mobius was just like âyeah.â
ALSO BRAD IS SUCH A FUN CHARACTER.
AND OB AND CASEY ARE SO CUTE I CANT WAIT TO SEE MORE INTERACTIONS WITH THEM.
also i hate to say it but loki and sylvie are a great duo, even if making it romantic was huge mistake they do work great together and the fighting scene was awesome.
BUT THE LOKI AND MOBIUS EATING PIE SCENE WAS MY FAVORITE OMG loki trying to comfort mobius and ACTUALLY DOING A GOOD JOB AND BEING LIKE âlets go get some pieâ
ALSO WATCHING MOBIUS STRAIGHT UP PUNCH A BITCH WAS SO AWESOME I WILL FOREVER LOVE HIM. SEEING HIM FINALLY LOOSE HIS COOL WAS SO REWARDING BECAUSE HES ALWAYS BEEN KIND OF PUT TOGETHER AND SEEING HIM GET MAD WAS SO FUN
but yeah will definitely be posting more thoughts as i process this episode

I feel like we all just universally imagine the Avengers in/right after 2012 as being a group of some sort of glorified firefighters who live together in the Tower and watch movies and play cards while they wait for an alarm bell to ring, indicating some sort of disaster, and then they all get up and suit up with varying senses of urgency, and I think thatâs beautiful.
#i'm living forever in this particular era of mcu fandom with a dash of post-catws incorporation of bucky#particularly the darcyland subset that pulled in various and sundry other awesome mcu people with no regard to canon#like wanna bring in the awesome folks from wakanda? awesome do it it'll be fun#wanna have captain marvel or ms marvel or daredevil or whoever show up? cool it's a party in the tower#jarvis or friday will order food depending on whether or not you're including vision!#wanna include vision but ignore the rest of age of ultron? fantastic sounds great pietro lives and hawkeye adopted the twins#they live in a brownstone with a suspicious number of russian dudes in tracksuits also clint has a dog and a kate bishop#but mostly everyone lives in the tower and they all have their own floor or half a floor and there's a common room where they hang out#perfect no notes#marvel cinematic universe#fangirls do it better
Summary: At first youâre confused by Buckyâs choice of gift for you, until you look a little deeper.
Warnings: this is meant to be a general holiday gift exchange fic and Iâve tried to make it as holiday neutral as possible but please let me know if Iâve missed something, a little light angst at the start cause itâs me, but other than that just fluff

Masterlist | Ask me anything! | Library
It was clearly a book.
Buckyâs untidy, and sticky tape littered gift wrapping did nothing to hide the size, shape or pliant feel of the present. You had been gifted enough novels in your life to know there was indeed a paperback book underneath the holiday themed wrapping paper.
And as reading was one of your favourite pastimes, you were excited at the prospect of having a new story to absorb. A complex world with compelling characters you could fall in love with for the first time, the possibility of finding a new author with a fresh and unique style that would capture your intrigue to delve down a rabbit hole of their publications.
As you unwrapped the gift, you were met with extremely familiar cover art. One that had become your greatest source of comfort, an intricate world you loved to get lost in and one you frequently returned to when times were at their toughest. These particular set of words felt like a warm and protective embrace, one that you could alway rely on being there for you when you needed solace.
You chuckled nervously, unsure why he gifted you a copy of your favourite book, one that was clearly secondhand if the crack in the spine was anything to go by.
You already owned a copy that was extremely well loved, and you knew it wasnât a first edition based on the age cover, so it puzzled you as to why he thought this would be the perfect gift he had teased in the lead up to the holiday.
Bucky knew this was your favourite book, he had listened for hours as you dissected apart the themes, your favourite scenes, the character you identified with most and how their love interest would go to the ends of the world to protect them.
Your heart sank - had he truly not been paying attention all that time?
Perhaps you were being too harsh, maybe he was just one of those people that was terrible at giving gifts.
Every interaction with Bucky always felt as though he knew you like the back of his hand, that he could read how you were feeling as if you were his favourite book.
You smiled at him, trying to avoid that awkward exchange of pretending you liked the gift when in reality it was something you already owned, but he was already on the offence, knowing you well enough to tell you were attempting (and failing) at hiding your true reaction.
âOpen it.â He chuckled, as if to say âgive me a little credit, thereâs more to it than thatâ.
Once you flipped to the first page it dawned on you what Bucky had actually done. Scrawled in the margins of the page was his own handwriting, having underlined certain lines and scribbled annotations beside them.
Flicking through each page his handwriting gradually became messier, but the commentary didnât abate. And when you finally reached the chapters you loved most, you could tell he had been paying attention during all your rants because his comments included âI see your point aboutâŚâ and âI can see why you adore this part so muchâ.
Lost in your own little world, you could hear Buckyâs voice in your head as you read his annotations, his chuckle when he underlined certain phrases and wrote âthis reminded me of youâ. The way your heart swelled in that moment could rival when the grinch's heart grew three sizes.
It was the most extensive love letter you had ever received, the person you loved most in the world providing you with his intimate thoughts on a book you treasured with your whole heart. Every time you picked up that book you would never be alone, Bucky would now forever be reading it alongside you.
Tightly clutching the book close to your chest, you finally looked up at Bucky with teary eyes to find his own softly gazing at you, brimming with affection.
âI donât have any words except thank you. I love it.â Your throat felt dry, though a tear slipped down your cheek. Bucky reached up and carefully wiped it away.
âAnd I love you.â
Next year youâre really going to have to up your gift giving game if youâre going to outdo him.

Why was Peter Parker refusing you?
Scratch that, why is your boyfriend rejecting you?
He surely had no issue letting you crawl into his lap after placing the computer in his lap to the left side of his bed, and he definitely didnât have an issue when his raised eyebrows in question were silenced when you pulled him in for a bruising kiss by the collar of his muted flannel.
But funny enough when you started to trail your hands down to meet the skin beneath the thick cotton, just aching to slide your hands under his shirt and over his toned muscle, and rest your cool palms on his hot, beating chest, his hands caught yours in one.
You almost froze into the kiss, heâs never denied you like this.
You steadied your movements and when he noticed your lack of exploration he loosened the hold on your wrists, your hands this time traveling back up, taking a moment to ease him into your next move. You pulled back for a quick breath and resumed, this time you brought your hands down to the buttons of his flannel, you were barely able to pop one on his chest before he held each hand in his.
Peter pulled away from you, his one word was a whisper.
âNo.â
Your turn to be confused, because, what?
âNo?â
âNo.â He shook his head lightly.
âCan I ask why?â Heâs never stopped you before, but maybe heâs just not in the mood.
âI just donât want to tonight.â Peter shrugged his shoulders casually.
But Peter does want to, itâs just that he has a black and purple bruise on quite literally the entire right side of his body. There was no avoiding the questioning, heâs gotten pretty lucky so far, nothing too concerning on his face or body that he couldnât just play off. But this time he couldnât think of a story that could justify that, and sometimes when heâs battered heâs had to wait until it was dark in his room, the only light is the moon peaking in the blinds. Or he would have to switch positions for the night, just to get you to keep from looking his way.
And Peter knows it wrong, and one day heâs gonna get caught in something that makes him confess before heâs ready and it will be a bigger issue than it should, but part of him likes that heâs just Peter with you and even though he knows heâs making the wrong decision he doesnât want to tell you anything until you ask.
You tilt your head at him and purse your lips, trying to see if he was playing at something.
He looked genuine.
âOkay. Do you want to keep making out or do something else? I saw Battleship in your cupboard the other day, Iâm sure I could kick your ass.â You grinned at him and played with the lapels of his collar while you waited for a response.
âHmm, makeout please. Then kick my ass.â
He pulled you in for a kiss, and you tried to be respectful of his no. But old habits die hard and when lost in a daze of Peterâs tongue grazing your own you ground your hips into his. In an act of apology you placed your hand on his waist and squeezed lightly, you pulled from him slightly to mutter an apology.
âSorry, I didnât mean-â
Peterâs face scrunched up, almost like you hurt him.
You glanced at the hand on his waist and grabbed again, he grunted this time. You directed your gaze at him.
âWhatâs wrong?â
âHm? Nothing, youâre good. Câmere.â
You pulled your head back.
âNo. Whatâs wrong?â
âNothings wrong, I donât know what you mean.â
You narrowed your eyes and squeezed. Peter did his best attempt at a poker face but you did it tightly this time, and even you saw the wobble of his lip in betrayal.
âThat doesnât hurt?â
âNo.â
âBullshit.â
âIâm fine, baby.â He leaned in for a kiss, if you didnât know better you would think itâs a distraction.
You squeezed again and this time he removed your hand from him and placed it on his thigh.
âThen let me see.â You tried to move the shirt up but his hand laid on top of yours.
âSee what? Nothing is there.â
âThen let me see.â
âNo.â
âPeter!â You whined his name, why was he acting like this?
âY/N.â He kept his tone neutral, not a good sign. He was getting annoyed.
You wanted to see how far you could push him.
âAre you sore?â
He sighed, he knew in his heart he shouldâve just taken up the offer for Battleship.
âNo, Iâm fine. I promise.â
âAre you hurt?â
âI just said I was fine, baby.â
You pouted at his claim, it was a bold face lie and you both knew it. In a quick moment you raced to throw his shirt up but he locked his hands around your wrists quicker than you could finish the plan.
âStop.â He was serious this time, no more playing.
You knew he was over the interrogation by his grip, it didnât hurt but it was tight. He was subtly hinting he would throw you off him if you didnât stop.
Peter knows youâre confused and probably a little hurt because you knew he was lying and worse, hiding something he didnât want you to see. He wonders what youâre thinking, if heâs sore from a new workout, or if he has hickeys all over he doesnât want you to see, or maybe you were really just thinking why he didnât trust you.
You held your hands up in surrender, this wasnât fun anymore.
âOkay, Iâm sorry. I wonât ask again, maybe itâs sepsis and youâre dying. Itâs fine, no big deal.â You lightly teased him, trying to show you werenât trying to corner him. You just cared.
Peter rolled his eyes, âItâs not sepsis.â
âOh, so you admit it?â
âAdmit what?â
âItâs something.â
Peter just looked in your eyes with pursed lips, both of you refused to break eye contact. The room was silent and unmoving for a solid minute.
âI think itâs time for battleship.â
Peter tapped your thighs to get you to get off him so he could stand up and set up the game, you crossed your arms over your chest and challenged him for a moment, calling his bluff. Was he really about to ignore the whole situation?
The answer was yes, he was just blinking back at you and looked confused as to why you werenât moving off him. He was prepared to let you win, he was just gonna say you were hitting ships even when you werenât, just to make you feel like you won something against him.
You huffed and pushed off of him.
âFine. But donât let me win, Iâm going to kick your ass just because I can.â
And even though you kept putting the largest ship in the same place, Peter let you win.
â--------------------------------------------
âOuch, whatâs that from?â
You frowned at the small graze across Peterâs face, a superficial cut that ran over his right cheek. You placed a light kiss to the mark as if you could heal it instantly.
âI was walking down 5th and May called and I dropped my phone. When I picked it up I stood back up into a bush, got me a good one.â
âIt looks like you got hit with something.â (He did.)
You ran your thumb over the injury.
âYeah, Mother Nature.â
âThatâs not a fight I think you can win, dear. But, now my boyfriend looks like a tough guy.â
Peter can get behind that idea, some big strong man you hide behind who doesnât take shit from anyone.
âAh, does that do something for you? I can start picking fights if thatâs what you want.â
You scrunch your nose at his teasing, âNah. I love my soft, mushy boyfriend. Heâs so nice and kind, he could never hurt anyone.â (He could.)
And those are the kind of comments that make him feel bad, because how was he supposed to tell you he actually is picking fights and isnât so nice and kind sometimes.
Too bad your hug is crushing him and all he can feel is what he thinks is the right decision.
Your heart raced and you held a hand over your chest to try and regulate the pulses. Your senses bounced off the brick around you, in an effort to catch your breath from the fright you breathed heavily for a second.
âYou scared the fuck out of me.â
âSorry! I thought you heard me!â
The red and blue hero dropped behind you and didnât say a word until you felt someone watching you and turned ready to scream out âFire!â and had the daylights scared out of you.
âItâs fine, just got my blood racing a little.â
âWhatâs up? Long time no see.â
Itâs true. You hadnât seen the masked vigilante for a moment, he was never around or at least wasnât around when you were.
âNothing much. My birthday is about to come up, Peter and I are coming up on six months. But, we're also in a rough patch right now, so yeah. Thatâs fun.â
Rough patch?
You were in a rough patch?
âRough patch?â
âYeah. Itâs whatever, Iâm sure itâs fine.â You shrugged but if you were being honest you were actually kind of losing sleep over it.
âWhat do you mean?â
Yeah, what do you mean?
âUh, heâs hiding something from me. And I canât tell if itâs something big or not, and Iâve really been trying to be cool but if Iâm being honest itâs really starting to fuck with my head.â You gave a small laugh at the end but even he could tell it was forced.
Was him not being honest ruining the relationship?
âWhen did that start?â
Did he start to let his guard drop?
âI donât know. I think heâs always been kind of, I donât know. Heâs not like, secretive but heâs kind of private, but not really? I mean I can ask him anything but sometimes I can tell heâs just talking around the topic, you know?â
âAnd recently itâs been getting worse. Like, sometimes he wonât let me touch him. And I donât think it's me, itâs just because he doesnât want to be touched. Itâs almost like Iâm hurting him, and now I canât help but think maybe he has trauma or something but thatâs not a thing you ask outright. I canât help but think weâre both waiting for the other to bring it up first.â
Ouch.
Heâs made his girlfriend feel like shit.
Thatâs not being the best boyfriend he promised he would be.
Ouch.
âI think youâre right. It not being a you thing, I mean. Maybe he has something heâs not ready to share yet.â
You let out a heavy sigh.
âI know. And I know this sounds shitty, because I want him to work this out on his own and come to me when heâs ready. But, I also want to know Iâm not crazy and that there is something heâs hiding. And I canât just ask if heâs hiding something out of the blue because then heâs going to lie and I really, really hate that heâs been lying. And we both fucking know it, I mean he just looks at me and we both know what he said was a lie but neither of us comment on it.â
Yeah, he feels like shit.
âI justâŚâ You trail off, and for the first time in the past two weeks spiral you cry. And you cry hard, your breaths tremble and you squat with your head between your knees to collapse the spinning thoughts around you.
Peter doesnât know what the fuck to do.
Because he wants to wrap himself around you and tell you itâs okay.
But he doesnât think Spider-Man would do that.
So he doesnât.
âHey, itâs okay. Youâre okay, just breathe okay?â
You sniffle and rub your eyes.
âI just really, really love him. Why doesnât he trust me?â Your voice broke and Peter had to look directly into your teary eyes through his mask and tell you he doesnât know.
â---------------------------------
It was another Saturday night where Peter was rejecting your advances.
It has been happening more frequently, not super often but enough to make you question something. Peter has just been more on edge, and now that he knows youâre looking for something he doesnât want to risk it.
You pulled from him and sighed.
âWhatâs the no for this time?â
He feels like he should be honest.
So he is.
âI have a bad bruise and it hurts, I scraped up my side and itâs ugly.â
âCan I see it?â
âI donât really want you to.â
At least he was being honest, and that is something youâll take.
âOkay. Thanks for telling me.â You grinned at him, and pressed a chaste kiss to his mouth.
âCan I ask what happened?â
âI rubbed it against a building, no biggie.â (He was swinging quite fast and was too busy looking at a pigeon trying to fly off with a whole sandwich.)
âOuch.â You frowned and looked down at his torso.
âWhere is it?â
Peter ran a hand over his left rib area and you ducked your head down to place feather light kisses over his shirt.
Peter pulled his hand away from you and hid it, he didnât want you to kiss it better. You had just walked in two seconds after he dropped the suit from his body, his cheeks glew at the wolf whistle you gave his mostly naked body.
You clocked in on his scraped knuckles, you werenât sure how it happened but youâve learned Peter is pretty clumsy. He was usually scraped, cut or bruised somewhere but never so much it drew out real questions you wouldnât let him escape from.
Peter on the other hand tried to play it off, but in reality he hasnât washed the blood from his hand yet and heâs not sure whose it is. Was it his or was it from the teeth scraping across as he punched some guy in the jaw a few dozen times?
He didnât want you to kiss a stranger's blood, even if you took it as rejection he wouldnât give in and let you win.
âItâs okay, baby. Doesnât hurt.â (It actually didnât this time.)
âBut itâs my job to kiss your boo-boos.â
âNot tonight, Iâd rather kiss you.â
Heâs gotten better at redirecting your thoughts.
âIâm okay with that, but donât put on pants. Just a waste of time.â
You winked at his boxers and nibbled on your bottom lip.
Everything Peter was scared of happening was happening right now.
He doesnât know how you got here, and he doesnât know how he stumbled upon you but he is so glad he did. You were currently soaking wet and shivering while heaving breaths, your face was red and wet, he wasnât sure if it was the rain or tears.
What you were doing in the pouring rain almost two hours into the Bronx is beyond him, he just wanted you home, dry and safe.
âWhatâs going on?â His panicked questioning made you cry harder.
âIâm not, I donât, please help me. Please.â
âOkay, okay. Tell me whatâs going on so I can help you. Can you do that for me?â
Peter watched as you calmed your breath, shoulders shaking from the cold rain on bare skin. Your breaths came in stutters as you tried to speak.
âMy phone is dead and I donât know where I am. I fell asleep on the train and I had to get off and I tried staying in the station but this old fucking creep was following me around,â
Peterâs heart sank.
You were terrified, lost and cold.
âSo I came out here and I forgot my jacket at Peterâs and, and, and. I really need him, can you call him please?â
Peter froze.
He canât call Peter, he is Peter.
âI donât have his number, I can help you, it's okay.â
Spider-Man tried to reach for your arm but you recoiled and broke into a sob.
âNo. Please call Peter, please. I know his number, I would call him on the payphone, I tried but that guy came up right behind me and was pressing into me.â
He felt worse by the second.
You just really, really needed him.
âIâm sorry, I canât.â
âItâs your job! Youâre supposed to help. Please call my boyfriend.â You became bitter but it was just nerves.
âI canât. I canât give out my number like that, you have to understand. I can get you back home safely, thatâs the best I can offer.â
âI donât want to go alone, he can come. He will come, just call him. He wonât leave me here, I know he won't.â
He knows he wouldnât either.
But heâs not Peter right now, and he canât be no matter how much you need him.
âIâll ride with you. Just so youâre not alone, would that be okay?â He was almost pleading with you, out of every other time he wants this one to be the time where you just shut up and listen.
âI just really donât want you right now, Iâm sorry.â You sniffled and shuffled away from him, blinking away the rain droplets on your eyelashes.
Peter doesnât know what to say.
You wonât listen to Spider-Man, itâs not who you want.
âWould you come with me to call him? I understand you canât call him but just so I donât have to go back down there alone, please?â
Now he has to watch you get ignored 3 times because he canât answer, heâs right next to you. And heâs staring down the old guy four benches down looking you up and down from the side. After the third call with no answer you slammed the phone down on the hook.
âI donât know why he didnât answer. The one time I really, really needed him to answer he didnât.â
Peter really wishes he could tell you heâs right there, just one arm length away.
âLet me take you home, he probably just has unknown callers silenced. No need to panic, okay?â Peter cautioned the words scared for a blow up on your end but it was worse, it was defeat.
It was disappointment.
It was hurt.
Peter had let you down.
And he watched himself do it.
âWhat if he calls back?â
âHe canât. You canât call payphones back.â
Peter isnât sure if thatâs true, but he does know that the phone will never ring.
âOkay. You can take me home.â
Three stops before yours you told Spider-Man he could leave. You promised you would be okay and that you really appreciated him taking the hours out of his evening to get you home even after you freaked out on him.
As soon as the doors opened you were met with the worried eyes of your boyfriend, a smile broke over his face as you stepped through. You were confused but more than anything, you were safe, comforted, and warm. He was so, so warm. And he had a jacket for you.
âHow did you know I was here?â Your cold nose was buried in his shoulder.
âPrivate caller. They left me a message and said you were here and waiting for me, heard you got a little lost.â
âI was so so sacred. Spider-Man found me, and I was begging him to call you. I wonder if he did, I called you three times.â
âOn the payphone? I have unknown callers silenced, from now on Iâll keep them on okay? Iâm sorry you were scared, itâs a good thing Spidey was there huh?â
You shook your head and pressed into him for a hug.
âThere isnât anyone or anything that makes me feel safer than being right here.â
Peter decided then he has to tell you.
â------------------------------------------
Itâs fair youâre pissed at Peter.
He knows itâs fair, he just hopes youâll still date him after this.
And of course he was right, you found out before he was ready to tell you and he knows itâs gone on too long, and there wasnât going to be an easy way to break the news but you finding out on your own made you spiral into a frenzy and now you refused to speak to him.
He had just washed his suit, and with the technology he couldnât dry it so on wash days he kept it hung in his closet to air dry until he would use it that night.
Then you came over and rolled around in his bed, then begged him to make you a grilled cheese, then begged to watch the new season of reality TV on Netflix, which he hates but knows you love the drama. He also feels a little good because the whole time you cling to his arm and watch the guys berate their new fiancès and tell Peter youâre so glad he doesnât act like that.
It was totally normal until the evening.
You had asked to take a shower before dinner, and sat on his bed with your wet hair dripping down your pajama shirt, and his fan iced the droplets and it sent chills up your back. You were planning on spending the night and so in your shivers you dug yourself under his blankets but the cold had already settled into your bones and you were contemplating getting a hoodie of Peterâs out of his closet.
âHey.â
You were almost at his closet doors when he interfered.
âIâm cold.â
âCâmere.â He opened his arms for a hug but his warmth wasnât settling the chill in your body.
âWant to do chinese? If not, we can do that pasta thing again.â
âHmm, Iâm not sure yet. Iâm too cold to decide, Iâm gonna grab a hoodie.â
You broke from the hug and Peter stepped to the side in front of you again.
âI can grab it.â
You rolled your eyes with a grin, youâre not sure if Peterâs love language was more acts of service or physical touch.
âItâs okay, I can manage.â
You tried to step to the side once more but he followed you.
âNo really, I insist.â
Even with a smile on his face you saw the slight panic, he didnât want you in his closet.
âWhat? Are you hiding your other girlfriend in there or something?â
He was hiding something in there for sure. Just not another girl.
âOh yeah, thereâs another one under the bed too. Iâm surprised you didnât see the third one hiding in the shower.â
A shudder ran down your spine and you were able to place a hand on the closet handle before Peter leaned against the doors so they wouldnât open.
âI got it.â
You furrowed your brow at him, why was he acting like this?
âYeah, I can too.â
âNo really, let me.â
You donât know why but suddenly you were warm with slight rage, why was he being so fascitous? There was no reason for him to be trying so hard to keep you from opening the doors but there was.
And you didnât know why.
âNo. Let me.â
You pulled at the handle but it didnât budge under Peter resting against it.
âPeter, move.â
He thinks this is the moment. Youâre about to find out and heâs terrified.
âBaby I donât mind, let me take care of you.â This was his last plea, hiding behind wanting to take care of you and not because he was trying to hide his suit. Not at all.
âWhat are you hiding?â You jiggled the handle again.
âWhat? Nothing.â
âNo, itâs something.â You werenât even cold anymore, this was about standing your ground.
âI donât-â
You cut him off, you were done with the lies.
âThen move.â
Peter stayed silent this time.
He was about to let you in.
He was about to watch the other shoe drop.
You pushed his shoulder to move him off the door and he stumbled away while holding his breath. He wasnât even as half as nervous when May found out.
You opened the door and let out a breath.
âSee? Did it just fine on my own.â
Your hand ran across the right rack looking through the hooded collection searching for your favorite. You didnât get why he was so adamant on you not doing this yourself, there was absolutely no issue.
You slipped the thick blue fleece off the hanger and turned sideways to close the door, and when the door was almost shut your breath hitched, did you just see what you thought?
Peter stayed still, he knows you saw.
You slowly cracked the door back open and looked at the left rack. And it was there, hung up. Just spandex and so innocent looking, you almost told yourself it was just an authentic replica. A costume.
But you knew better.
And by his reaction, or lack of, was answer enough.
You dropped the sweatshirt to the ground and ran a thumb over the shoulder of the suit, the same texture that was on your cheek when you asked him to not beat up Peter.
Peter was Spider-Man.
Your boyfriend was Spider-Man.
You confided in him several times, about him.
You felt so dirty, and played, and dumb, and belittled. Each time you talked with him replayed in your mind, every conversation and accusation.
It was so unfair.
Peter always had the upper hand, and you werenât even aware he did.
Peter just watched your reaction, your thumb didnât move. You didnât move, just stayed still until your hand dropped and when you turned to look at him he stayed silent waiting for you to break the ice.
He was going to wait until you asked him a question or all of them, but you didnât. You just shook your head at him and shoulder checked him as you walked out his room and headed to grab your bag by the front door to leave.
âHey, hey, hey. Stop, letâs talk.â
âYou donât want me to talk to you right now.â You sounded so bitter, so hurt, so angry.
âYes I do, let me hear it.â
âNo. I literally donât even want to see you right now.â
Peter moved to stand in front of the door and true to your word you had your head turned to the wall in effort not to look at him. Even seeing him, watching him try to handle this with ease unsettled you. He didnât realize how uncomfortable you felt right now.
âBaby, letâs talk, okay? Iâll answer any questions.â
You laughed bitterly at his words, funny now he was the king of honesty.
âYou know maybe you can send Spider-Man out to collect all the intel on Peter and Iâs issues.â
âHey, thatâs not what I meant to happen.â
âFuck off, Peter. I really, really donât want to be around you. But, you know, Iâm sure Spidey will track me down and ask me about an issue he somehow knows Iâm having.â
He shook his head and tried to defend himself, âThatâs not-â
âThatâs not how it happened, I get it. The first time was a fluke, Iâll give you that. But every other time you knew who I was, and what I wanted. You played into it, you shouldâve ignored me. You shouldnât have kept tracking me down or talking to me, you had an unfair advantage the entire time.â
âYou shouldâve never talked to me as him after I told him I liked you. That is dirty behavior and now I really donât trust you, I mean what else are you hiding?â
Peter knows in his heart this was deserved, he knows what you mean, and youâre not wrong. He knows in his heart that he only cared and was checking up on you but to you it felt like he was playing you.
âI know, I know. I wanted to tell you, I really did, I swear. I just really liked that you didnât know, and it wasnât even sadistic, I just liked being just me around you. I didnât want to explain every detail of what I do, or what I did that night, you know?â
âNo, Peter. I really donât know, I didnât talk to you like a third party person and pretend like I didnât actually know you. I was only honest with you, and you werenât. I genuinely donât know what is real or a lie anymore.â
You were hurt and confused and honestly it was fucking hard with your head, did he act or say certain things because you told Spider-Man what you wanted?
Was he ever going to actually tell you?
âI love you. And I know I messed up, but I promise nothing was a lie. Everything I told you about Peter as Spider-Man was true.â
And Peter was being honest, he didnât mean to mess it up this hard. He knew you wouldnât be happy but he didnât expect you to question the entire relationship.
âIâm sorry I didnât tell you, I know I shouldâve but I didnât want this to happen.â
He pointed between you two and your face hardened, he didnât understand your point.
âThis isnât happening because you didnât tell me you were Spider-Man, I get why you didnât tell me. This is happening because you kept using it to your advantage, and you knew what you were doing. You should have left me alone. Thatâs why this is happening.â
Peter wasnât sure how to navigate this anymore, everything he said was the wrong thing. Maybe you were right, he shouldâve let you leave, you werenât ready to talk about this right now.
He let out a sigh and rubbed at his forehead, he understood that you needed space and talking it out was making it worse.
âOkay, okay. I know youâre mad, and hurt and upset with me right now. And I donât want to fix that, I just want you to work through this with me, okay?â
âOkay.â
âDo you want to leave? If you need time away from me itâs okay.â
âYeah.â
You threw your backpack over a shoulder and passed by him towards the door before he grabbed your wrist.
âIâm sorry, and I love you.â
âI know you are.â
Peter frowned at the response.
âYouâll call me if you need something right? Weâre okay for now?â
You nodded at him and pulled your wrist from his grasp.
âWeâre okay. I love you. Iâll call you later.â
At least you said you loved him back, but he couldnât help but feel off after watching you leave without a glance back.
Peter feels like heâs really, really messed up.
ââââââââââââ-
âHi.â
Peter whipped his head down at you, he wasnât expecting you to approach him in the suit, especially after yesterday. You hadnât talked to him for a whole twenty four hours and he actually felt like he was going crazy. And he didnât realize how often he texts or snapchats you or sends links until he decided to leave the contact up to you.
He wasnât upset at you, you were upset at him so he thinks itâs fair that you come to him first. But he really wasnât expecting that it would be a day later, maybe a few days at least if he was basing it off of how upset you were yesterday.
âHi.â
âI missed you.â You sniffled.
âI missed you, too.â
Peter watched you slowly trying to gauge your reaction, he genuinely couldnât tell what you were thinking and he wasnât sure if that was a good thing or not.
âWanna talk?â
You nodded your head slowly, and looked around the space you were in wondering if it was a quiet enough spot. Off the busy street you tucked away into the corner of the alleyway, your eye catching the webbed bag up the wall.
He jumped off the roof and followed you and waited for you to talk, he watched as you soaked him in for a second. Youâve seen Spider-Man before but now knowing he was Peter you looked at him differently, you were drawing over his curves and dips with your eyes and you reached out to run a hand down his front.
âCan I⌠Can you take off your mask?â
In an instant he pulled it off and you watched as his hair fell down in a fluff, you reached a hand out to smooth over the curls, trying your best to place it the way he normally has it despite knowing it was about to get ruined.
âFeels weird seeing you in the suit, itâs like youâre cosplaying.â
âHow do you put it on?â You traced over his chest and then turned him around as you searched for a zipper.
âThe spider.â He lightly ran his glove over the emblem and without understanding the concept you pressed the spider confused with the steps.
âOop!â Your arms flailed as you were unsure what to do, in one motion the suit expanded and quite literally fell off his body. Even hiding in the corner you tried to shield him from any outside views.
Peter giggled as you fumbled around, he drew the suit back up and grabbed your hand to press the spider as it conformed back into his shape.
âSorry, I didnât know it would do that.â
âItâs okay.â He smiled warmly and you were desperate to kiss him so you did.
âWhatâs up?â
You bit the inside of your cheek and pondered on what to say, or more what to ask. More than anything knowing that your boyfriend was now an open book and was willing to answer any questions you had.
âCan you see out of that?â
You pointed at the mask in his hand.
âMhm.â He nodded.
You couldnât picture how, it looked like mesh. In fact when you ran your thumb over it, it felt like mesh.
âHow?â
âWell my senses make it hard to-â
âNo, how did it happen? How are you him?â
âA spider bite. Radioactive spider, I didnât realize until the next morning that something was up. I woke up and felt like my head was splitting open cause I could hear the entire city in my head.â
âWhen?â
âWhen I was 15.â
âWho else knows?â
âMay, MJ and Ned.â
You nodded slowly, everyone knew.
And you didnât.
âIf it makes you feel better itâs not just you I never told, everyone just found out on their own.â
You hummed and nodded your head.
âSo everytime you said no to sex you were hiding a Spidey ingury?â
âCorrect.â
You didnât know how to move forward, what happened next? Do you forget what happened?
You do understand why he didnât say anything, but he also shouldâve never interfered after the first time. You canât help but feel a little violated, and itâs not like you cared Peter knew what you said, itâs how he was hearing that bothered you.
âIâm still upset at you.â
You sniffled again and rolled a pebble under your foot, you watched Peter frown before looking behind you and pulling you into him and behind the dumpster.
You pulled a face of confusion until you heard chattering voices and group laughs walking by the clearance. His strong hearing impressed you, it was new seeing him react to his senses in front of you.
âI know, baby. And I understand, I know what I did was wrong. And I donât want to try and justify it but, in my mind I was just caring for you. I didnât even think of it like that, and I donât know why I didnât. Cause Iâd be peeved if the situation was swapped.â
Peter was honest, he knew after sulking all night he was wrong. He did exploit his position but he just loved you and cared for you and just wanted you to feel safe and heard, but you wanted to do all of that with Peter, not Spider-Man.
âYou know what hurts me the most?â
Peter doesnât want to hear it.
âNo, what?â
âWhen you didnât tell me that day when I got lost. I was fucking petrified and I needed you, you saw how much I needed you and you just went along with the story. Looking back on that now I just feel so hurt.â
Peter felt his heart drop.
He let you down.
He knows he did that day.
It just really hurt having you confirm his fears.
âIt really, really hurt me not to tell you. And that doesnât compare to how you felt, I just want you to know that even though I caused this, I didnât feel good doing it.â
Peter wasnât evil, he was a sweet boy. Just a little unaware.
And thatâs what you loved most about him.
âThat's it, right? No more secrets?â
Peter laughed and nodded his head.
âThatâs it. I promise.â
âTotal transparency?â
You raised your hand to shake his and spread your fingers over his gloved hand, warmth seeking into your palms.
âTotal transparency.â
You bit your lip and over exaggerated your hand shake.
âGood. Cause I have some questions.â
âIâll answer all of them.â
âOkay! Did you get all your powers at once or was it one at a time? How fast can you swing? How slow can you swing? Have you ever hit a bird? When do you eat? Wait, how do you pee? How do your webs work? Please donât say they come out of you.â
You paused for a gulp of air and watched Peterâs eyes go wide.
âAre all your senses effected? Can you super smell now? And how do your senses work? Could I wear the mask? Or does it only work for your head? Wait, do you know Tony Stark? Could I meet Tony Stark? Do you have a room at the Avengers tower? Is Tony Stark cool? Can you-â
âBaby breathe.â
Peter watched your face grow in color while you continued to ask away, and if he was honest he needed you to stop for a minute.
âSorry! Iâm just curious.â
You watched Peter try and mentally checklist the questions so he could respond and you bit your cheek while he counted the questions. Your mind started to wander off.
âSo if you were swinging through-â
Peter now thinks this is the worst case scenario of you finding out about his alter ego.
Tony owns a private box at Yankee Stadium but he doesnât care much for baseball. He gives Steve and Bucky the seats for a World Series game against the Dodgers. Heâs never seen Steve get so excited for something.
He finds out the next day that Steve and Bucky traded the box seats away to some random yankee fans so they can get third base line seats in the crowd. The reason he finds out is that Steve makes the front page of the Times that morning, decked out in Dodgers colors in a sea of Yankee gray, shouting at an ump for a bad call while Bucky holds him back.
He has Jarvis project the image on the outside Tower for the rest of the series.
