This work is really banal. However I like its conceptual meaning. This work is also a portrait, because is have been made while I was making my final outcome (my mother portrait). Paper towels where used to dry my brush. It is like a reflection of the actual work. For me it meand they are equivalent.
FINAL OUTCOME
“The Matter of Colour”

The portrait are drawn from the my mothers photographs. However I used old photographs form a period of time when my mother was around 25-30 years old. That was a time when her illness started to apire and the rule of colour in her life started to change. On the photographs, Maria looks thoughful and dreamy. Thats how I remember my mother from my childchood memories.
I am still not sure if I prefer presenting this portraits as four, or like a single artwork. I am looking forward for my assessment feedback.

John Byrne was born in 1940 in Paisley, Scotland and attended the Glasgow School of Art from 1958 - 63 where he excelledt. His work is held in major collections in Scotland and abroad. Several of his paintings hang in The Scottish National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh, the Museum of Modern Art and the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow.
I found my inspiration in John Byrne portrait painings sience I first saw them in Edinburgh Portrait Gellery. I always focused on the way he place his compositions and how he play with perspective. Last year I was lucky enoughhad to meet the artist at his house.

When I was a child We had a massive portrait of my mother, painted by my father. I used to think it's ugly. Now the painting is is placed in Art Gallery.

Part of a move about the artist Władysław Strzemiński. Artist was a lecture in School of Art in Lodz, city I really like and visit often. He was living and working dooring the time Poland was under control of communism (post war). It is a beautiful move about freedom in art and life.

“Tina Schwarz (*1977 in Friedberg, Germany), who recently spent some time in Los Angeles, completing a residency at Hooper Projects, is inspired by the drawings and graphics of the Old Masters, whose basic designs she deftly sketches on paper or utilizes as the starting point for her paintings. She combines these motifs with a theme that is both contemporary and timeless: the link between history and current events, which she creates by establishing reference points between, for example, current political developments and philosophy or artists such as Goya.
The human body in its physical presence, but also in its vulnerability, finite nature and absence, is often at the centre of her work, turning her paintings into an art of counter-perception, oriented towards the timeless, without repudiating the contemporary, striving for allegory, while constructing a polyfocal labyrinth of uncertainties. The dissection of space and the concurrent dynamization of the image are conspicuous, connected as they are to the breaking up of form and the transformation of the figure. In her work, moments of escalation are juxtaposed with a relativisation of time through a suspension of dynamic processes.”

Evaluation of the Project
Through this project I was trying to show my feeling and reflections from the journey I went through. I wanted my final outcome to represent my last remembrance of this adventure. For this reason, I was trying to not look at the realistic photographs doing the painting, because my aim was to make it look dream like. I had decided to use limited palette of colours and tones – blue and purple. Not extremally realistic image of a night forest which is getting thinner and brighter at the end of the route.
The artwork has been made with a use of pencil, pen, ink, oil and acrylic paint. I wanted to experiment with mixed media which contain similar texture and features and test those behaviour with each other.
Every memory is getting distorted over time, but even then, it is arousing feeling in its owner. We may say the journey is still continued even after physical ending, because it is still having an emotional impact the person who had experience it. The memory is still alive, it is constantly changing and modifying its features and aspects. If I could spend more time on the project I would try to paint the same memory (smaller format) every week/ month to see, how it may change, what elements I would add, and which details would have despaired. I find that really interesting.
At the beginning of the project I was thinking about presenting a human figure in the artworks. This idea has changed during the development. In my opinion by including this aspect in the artwork I would make it have a different meaning, viewer would concentrate on action not about the place itself.

Memory
They say things and objects have a memory.
Often, I collect some seemingly insignificant objects as a souvenir. Over time they gain a sentimental value. Recalling the memories.
The wood was collected from the journey I had. I fond painting the place it was connected from on it really intrigue. It’s like the object is reflecting my own thoughts associated with it. It’s interesting.

Peter Doig painting
Monika Ślósarczyk is a polish artist living and working in Wisla. I always liked her works. Monika Ślósarczyk paint her artworks in a really specific way. These are oil paintings which looks like fabric coloured with ink, or watercolour painting. The artist does not use specific perspective in the picture. Also, the role of the contour and the specific way of composing the human figure, which plays an ornamental role. It brings to my mind a Japanese art. However, by looking at her work I can see it's her own, different aesthetic. Very delicate, sophisticated and decorative. The artist's works transferred a viewer into a completely different world, very close to nature and its regular, soothing rhythm. Usually, she represents everyday situation and people in her works. I think it’s really relevant to my project.
