Dependant upon your decade and experience, we all have a different definition, insight and opinion.

I have been asked on numerous occasions about my thoughts about long distance relationships, and if I would write about them.

The internet is both a blessing and a curse.

It's brought us closer and made the world smaller.

In doing so, we have the ability to open ourselves to different people and cultivate friendships that can blossom into a passionate love affair.

In the many years I have been on Tumblr, I have heard from so many followers that have fallen in love. Some stories are happy endings, some almost happy, and of course the heartbroken.

Every relationship is a gorgeous challenge to grow and change with.

Online or LDR's present uniquely incredible challenges.

I'm not addressing those online flirtations where someone just wants a bit of attention sexually, has no intention of any genuine involvement beyond steamy emails and sexy selfies.

I'm speaking about truly genuine deep love, where two souls find themselves not only aligned, but perfect for one another.

They've already met in person and have established a relationship.

Some years ago, I was on a rush hour subway on my way uptown. The woman packed next to me started a conversation about fashion. She explained that she was wearing her one winter outfit, after having sold out her closet. Curious, I wanted to hear more.

She explained that she had fallen deeply in love with a gentleman whom she met online.

He lived in Europe, she in Manhattan.

After a year of frequent flyer miles, happy arrivals and tearful departures they made the decision to be together.

Her travel on the subway that night was to a bon voyage party all her friends were giving for her.

In anticipation of an entirely new life, she gave up her apartment, sold her entire closet, only keeping one outfit for each season.

The very next morning she was leaving with one suitcase, for a fiancé, job and school in Europe.

She spoke about their deep love, her thoughtful decisions, yet also expressed her doubts and questioned if she made the right decision.

I told her that Manhattan will be here. Apartments can always be sourced. Clothing can be replaced.

But how could you ever turn your back on love and the chance of incredible joy?

She invited me to her party, but I had plans for the night.

I wished her every happiness and got off at my stop.

As I stepped from the train, I will always remember her smile as she waved goodbye.

I have often wondered, how it turned out for her.

Did they get married? Are they in Europe with children? Did they come back to the states? Did it all fall apart and did she return to the city heartbroken?

I believe that life guides us to the person we are destined to be with.

To let that chance of love slip away would be something that would haunt you till the end of your days.

My advice is this:

Move heaven and earth to be with the one you love.

If anything has been learned in these past two years, it's that life is so short. That we aren't meant to walk our paths alone. Reach for happiness when you can.

Change your entire life for love.

No excuses.

Do it.
