First of all, im not good at writting/explain how i feel so this is might kinda confusing you.
Bird is absolutely have Impostor-Syndrome. And im going to talk abt his coping-mechanism, and man, i just realized this like, last night, ig..
We all here know Bird is an underdog (and probably a loser), he always loses and has the record for the longest losing streak, right? In ep 26 and some other episodes too they've already shown very clearly how Bird feels like a burden and is just holding back his team. This is in ep 26, I remember it very well, so I think that's clear, right?
We see Bird as a friendly, kind person, who never gives up and always rises with new strength, plus, he's also quick to smile. But have you ever thought that this is a form of coping-mechanism??
First of all, people who suffer from Impostor-Syndrome (as far as I know, correct me if I'm wrong) usually take on logistic roles. In Bird's case, cooking, cheering people on, and things like that, to convince themselves that they're not a "fraud" and that they're still useful.
Bird feels like he's a "fraud" and is taking advantage of Persona, as if he's just riding on the name even though he's not. He feels like a burden and is in debt because he's a burden and a "fraud" for always losing. He most likely feels like he has to pay back his "debt" to Persona, and he takes on logistic roles to pay it off.
Do you remember how he acted when his friends changed? He would be the first one to worry and try to help in any way possible. The easiest example is how he took care of Ekusu who felt empty after fighting Chrome at the beginning of season 2, or when he defended Multi like crazy when Tenka um, yeah, yk.
Besides cause he loves his friends so much (this is also mentioned in episode 26), this is also Bird's way of convincing himself that he's useful and that he can at least do something for his team.
I mentioned ep 26 a lot, sorry.. I just feel like that episode really showed and made it clear that my guess that Bird has Impostor-Syndrome.
Back to the topic. I really want beyblade x to make an episode where Bird actually lets out everything he's been holding in and keeping to himself all this time. I, as a Bird fan, really feel like he keeps a lot of things to himself even though he knows he could share it with someone. Sometimes it makes him feel like a time bomb that will never explode.
Beyblade X is a show aimed at kids, and Bird is a character created as a symbol of never giving up, it's like, "look, Bird never gives up no matter what happens or whoever he faces, you guys should be like that too!" And because of that I also feel like there will never be an episode like that, because after all, Bird is a symbol of resilience and the never-give-up attitude.
They made Bird at first glance, to me, look like a time bomb that could explode at any time. But the fact is? They're most likely not going to make that happen in the anime.
Now we're getting into a slightly dark theme, because it involves narrative exploitation, if you're not comfortable you don't need to read :D
Has it ever crossed your mind that Bird is being exploited by the writers?
This is my opinion, but I see Bird as if he's being forced to lose by the story writers. We know Bird has GROWN and DEVELOPED a lot more than when he first came to X-City at the start of season 1. But he keeps losing and losing, whether it's because of suggestion, doubt, miscalculation and so on, there's so much that I'm too lazy to mention it all.
Because Bird is a character created to give morals to a kid audience, he was created as an example for kids to keep trying hard no matter how many times you fall, whoever you face or whatever you face, keep trying and keep moving forward.
The writers sacrifice Bird to keep losing and losing again. He's trapped in a golden cage called losing, and the writer is the mastermind behind it. And again, I don't know if Bird can get out of there.. I'm not sure. The writers like to hold back the audience's satisfaction, but after that they still make Bird lose. Like ep 50/51 season 1 when Bird fought Shieru, he won but technically still lost.
Honestly this makes me remember Reiyu's curse, and that might be true because the writers really made Bird always lose in beyblade...Back to the topic, Bird is "exploited" by the writers just to remain an example or role model for the kid audience. Have you guys ever thought about this? Have you?
Actually, X-Tower itself also exploits pro bladers. There have been many episodes that clearly state that B4, the management of X-Tower, only cares whether it's interesting or not, right?
I'll talk about that in a future post, for now I want to focus on Bird again.
