Snakes of Ontario with Steve the Snake Guy 2026 I filmed this guide with my friend Steve last Summer. Ontario has 17 native species of snakes and only one, the Massasauga rattlesnake, is venomous.

An easy Ontario Turtles Identification guide I made for Scales Nature Park. I've been happy to see other Conservation organizations printing out and laminating this guide to hang it in their own facilities around Ontario, to know families have made it into a booklet to bring with them during hikes to teach their children about biodiversity... For such a small project it keeps warming my heart every so often when somebody mentions it. Eating roadkill is quite common in the northern state but the laws on collecting roadkill vary in Canadian provinces and territories. The one constant is that the Canadian Food Inspection Agency doesn't allow the meat to be sold.

Not that we were aware of those laws when they send us to collect this dead deer that Ute found by the side of the road during her morning bike ride. It was a different and interesting Wednesday for us and I feel quite sad for my meat-eater friends that had found these pictures disturbing.
