art requires an outside viewer (it does not technically but for the sake of my argument, let's start from ''it does'') and their interpretation is no less valid than that of the artist/creator because art primarily lives on through being perceived by other people. however, for many artists, it's also a language with decipherable intent and the way ''death of the author'' is used makes me uncomfortable to think about. there is no ''right way'' to deal with this, but people seem to either be for full separation of art from the artist or for total authority of the artist over their art and they both seem reductive. i just noticed that when i read a book and the person who wrote it is long gone, art serves as a ''bridge'' or ''empathy machine'' as much as it serves as a mirror because i cannot escape projecting my own beliefs, bisases, desires, identity onto the art (which is also its function), but i can also choose to be aware that this artwork was and still is, a part of a once living person who wanted to say something, it's theirs and it's mine. but yeah idk why it's gotta be ''author doesn't matter'' or ''author has full authority'' when in reality you both matter
