author's note: I love that people refer to rocky and adrian's babies as pebbles, it's the cutest thing ever, also I had to look at so many pictures of pebbles while writing this to describe what i think the pebbles would look like, this isn't my best work I justt wanted to write something because I had the urge to write something. also implied coltland twins au cause i love coltland twins.
Simon woke up to a sudden pressure on top of him and slowly lifted his head to see Ryland laying there on top of him, the blonde man resting his chin and arms on Simon's chest.
"Rocky and Adrian are bringing their pebbles to meet us!" Ryland had the most excited smile on his face and why wouldn't he? He was about to meet his best friend's kids and also finally see newly hatched pebbles which are much younger than the Eridian children he teaches.
Simon just hummed and leaned his head back on the pillows. "I know they are." He mumbled as he rubbed his face with his hand.
"Come on, help me get the house ready, please?" Ryland asked and kissed his cheek gently and repeatedly.
"Okay, well, if you kiss me I don't exactly want to move." Simon replied as he rolled them both onto their sides. "If anything that just makes me want to stay in bed and kiss you more."
He carefully pulled Ryland into a very tired but loving kiss, despite his excitement to see the pebbles Ryland did not object to the morning kisses. He never did and that had gotten Ryland into trouble on more than one occasion, mainly because it meant he was late to classes, but he would never object to Simon's kisses except for today.
"Simon, no." Ryland mumbled as he pulled away and looked at Simon softly. "We have to get ready, please? I'll let you sleep in as long as you want tomorrow."
"You let me sleep in anyway." Simon pointed out and smiled when Ryland just pouted in defense.
Eventually though Simon agreed and got out of bed, he got himself dressed before he helped Ryland tidy up the house and made coffee for the both of them.
"I wonder what they're gonna look like." Ryland said as he leaned against the counter and sipped his coffee.
"They'll be cute, most of the Eridian kids are." Simon replied as he wrapped his prosthetic arm around Ryland's shoulders.
"I know but these are pebbles! All the kids I teach have been hatched for a while, Rocky and Adrian's pebbles are only four weeks hatched." Ryland replied.
Simon hummed and kissed Ryland's head softly as he held his boyfriend close to him. "They'll still be cute, they might just be even cuter and I'm sure they'll love you."
Ryland smiled at that and kissed Simon's cheek again. Their peaceful morning was then interrupted by a knock on the door and Ryland wasted no time rushing over to open it.
"Rocky, Adrian, come in!" Ryland let them into the house and Simon could already see the bundle of four smaller Eridians on top of Adrian. "Are those the pebbles?" Ryland asked.
"Yes, they've been very excited to meet Uncle Simon and Uncle Ryland." Rocky chirpped.
They didn't really use the translator anymore, Simon had picked up Eridian notes from Adrian so quickly and Ryland had spent four years on a ship with Rocky so they were practically fluent at this point.
The pebbles slowly climbed off of Adrian's back and they looked at both Ryland and Simon who sat down on the floor to get closer to them.
"Oh my god, they're adorable, and they're so different." Ryland gushed as he watched the pebbles move towards them happily.
Two of the pebbles were hesitant and just watched Ryland for a moment while the other two immediately climbed onto Simon. Simon was confused but he watched the pebbles and he let them climb around on him wherever they wanted, eventually moving to lay on his back so that the pebbles could stand on his chest. Since they were only four weeks old they weren't crazily heavy, it felt more like having a weighted blanket on his chest only.
The pebbles chirped happily as they looked at Simon while standing on him, eventually they were joined by the other two pebbles so now Simon had all four of the pebbles on top of him. They were happily running across his chest and jumping off of him to run around him.
"Oh my god they adore you!" Ryland said as he watched so lovingly.
"They do? But...you're the teacher, I'm not good with kids." Simon replied as he watched one of the pebbles become fascinated with his Eridian made prosthetic arm.
"Simon very good with kids." Adrian said as they were now all watching the pebbles treat Simon like he was the most amazing thing in the world. "Pebbles feel safe to interact with Simon. Feel connection to him."
Simon teared up slightly at that and when all four of the pebbles sat on his chest he decided to carefully hug them. There was a bit of difficulty because they were all wearing their xenonite suits, but Simon still managed to hold them all in his arms.
"Simon favourite uncle." One pebble said.
Simon looked at Ryland. "I'm the favourite?"
Ryland smiled softly and leaned over, kissing Simon's head softly. "Of course you are, my love, they didn't just spend the past hour jumping all over you to suddenly call me the favourite." Ryland said.
"Would Simon like to give them human names?" Adrian asked.
"I uh...I'm not good with names." Simon said.
"You don't have to be good at names, just whatever you feel." Ryland replied and carefully ran a hand through his hair.
"Uncle Simon name name name!" Another pebble said.
Simon carefully sat up so that he could look at the pebbles in his arms properly. There was one that was pretty rigid and slim who's rocky exterior was a pale grey colour with some white marbling effect. "I think I'll call this one Ava."
"Ava, that's cute." Ryland replied as he rested his chin on Simon's shoulder.
The second pebble was more of a dark greenish colour, perhaps the same colour group as Adrian but dark and it's exterior was a bit smoother than Ava's. "This one is Eva."
Ryland looked at Simon before looking at the pebble that Simon had just named. "Yeah...yeah Eva suits her."
Simon smiled softly before turning to the third pebble. A smaller but wider pebble that looked pretty similar to Rocky with specks of Adrian's teal-ish colour scattered around, kind of like freckles in a way. "This one is Carlton...for your brother and for Carl."
"That's perfect." Ryland whispered softly.
The last pebble was different, it was a deep maroon colour and didn't really have any other colour on it. It was taller than its three siblings and pretty shiny as well instead of the natural textured matte that the others had been.
"This one is Ellie." Simon spoke softly and looked at Ryland.
"Ellie is a wonderful name for her." Ryland assured and kissed his head softly.
Simon smiled softly as he relaxed into Ryland's arms and looked down at the pebbles again. Ava, Eva, Carlton and Ellie were all cuddled up as best as they could with xenonite suits, gently pressing into Simon for comfort. Ryland gently ran his fingers through Simon's hair as he watched Simon bond with the pebbles.
Eventually they had to leave but Simon promised he would visit the four of them as soon as possible, he even promised to show them the garden the next time Adrian brought them over. Rocky and Adrian said their goodbyes before carrying the pebbles out fo the house.
Ryland closed the door and looked at Simon. "They loved you."
"I've never felt that before." Simon mumbled as he carefully took his prosthetic arm off cosnidering he had had it on all night and all day. He placed it to the side before walking over to Ryland and wrapping his other arm around Ryland's waist. "I didn't know I could be someone's warmth and safety."
Ryland tilted his head a little as he placed a hand on Simon's cheek. "But you've been someone's warmth and safety for years, you're my warmth and safety." Ryland replied and smiled softly.
He kissed Simon softly who reciprocated pretty quickly, keeping it slow and gentle until they pulled away from each other.
"Marry me." Simon whispered.
"What?" Ryland looked at Simon a little shocked. "Are you serious?"
"I've been just Simon the entire time I've been here, I think maybe its time I become Uncle Simon Grace." Simon said.
Ryland teared up and smiled happily as he stroked Simon's cheek with his thumb softly. "Of course I'll marry you."
Simon smiled and lifted Ryland off the ground with his one arm to spin him around slightly before placing him down again. Ryland chuckled softly as he wrapped his arms around Simon's neck and looked at him so lovingly.
"By the way, Rocky said you'd make a great dad." Ryland said.
"I don't think so." Simon replied and kissed Ryland's cheek softly. "He knows we can't make pebbles right?"
"I don't have the heart to break it to him."
Simon chuckled softly. "My kind angel. I'll get Adrian to break the news to him." He kissed Ryland's cheek again softly before they went to the kitchen to make dinner together.
