"You can take the girl out of writing but you can never take writing out of the girl."
I may have read that somewhere or just made it up in my head.๐ ๐ But yes, I'm the girl.
It's a clichรฉ but writing as a craft is more like a *calling* for me. I've had my bad days, when it went downhill, failures, rejections, writer's block, anxiety, and what have you. But somehow, I made it here which is quite a feat.๐ฅ
Tbh, it's a love-hate relationship I have with writing. And how ironic bec. I don't see myself doin' anything sans writing (aside from baking which comes a close second). ๐๐
And my journey wasn't always smooth, boy was it chaotic--it was a whole lot of mess you can say.
But I guess I kinda owe it to myself to be proud of how I've come so far. Well, we should be esp. of "the progress no one else sees or know little of."
And so I cannot discredit myself for everyย accomplishment, win, or success (big or small) I've had along the way. After all,
"We are all works in progress."
It's still a long way to go but maybe a few things I've learned/still learning at 31:
1. It's okay not to have it all figured out. We learn as we go along. So you gotta learn how to let go of the things that you can't control and move forward. Keep movin.
2. You don't always have to take charge--and that's okay because God is. He always is.
Guess I've always been so obsessed about taking charge in my life (again)--or so I thought and felt. But life happens--detours, mistakes, and, bad decisions and really, that's how you learn, grow, and get better.
3. "You have to revel in the now."ย Stop worrying so much about the future and live for today because, tomorrow is not/never promised.
4. Find what you love and stick to it. You don't have to be an expert or perfect your craft, but you gotta love what you do and yes, "it has to find you working (too)."
5. Do not give up. "It's difficult until it's done" and yes there's so much you can do outside fear so take a leap of faith. Take that 1st step (even with the 'nerves' or your knees shakin').
Contrary to how people often describe me: calm, quiet or reservedโIโd like to believe that I am a real-life gung-ho or fighter.
I find comfort in staying behind the scenes and blending into the background where most people arenโt. I guess I am built that way or that different (by default).
But I am a โgung-hoโ when it comes to going after my dreams (and admittedly, stubborn at times too).

Putting this out here as a gentle reminder to anyone who might need a little "perk-me-up" today. I kinda need one too--but we got this. You got this, hustler!
โWriting And What Keeps Me Goingโ
In celebration of International Womenโs Month, I would like to share what keeps me goingโincluding what made me stick with writing in the hopes to inspire other women, writers, and dreamers.
That yes, we are enough, and we can.
And despite all the hurdles, we will thrive and persist.
Starting off with my Top 3 favourite words whose personal meanings resonate with me the most. First--Gung-ho, a classic from one of my all time favourite authorsโ books (by Cecelia Ahern).
Contrary to how people often describe me: calm, quiet or reservedโIโd like to believe that I am a real-life gung-ho or fighter.
I find comfort in staying behind the scenes or blending into the background where most people are not. I guess I am built that way or that different (by default).
But I am a โgung-hoโ when it comes to going after my dreams (and admittedly, stubborn at that too).
And writing is my solitude and adventure.
Although I donโt easily recommend the same to everyoneโI believe if you have a dream or passionate about something then you must be willing to embrace the whole process, good or bad and will it.
Also, always, always remember to put in the hard work.
Choosing the road less travelled by or making your path is no easy feat but itโs a journey we should always proud ofโno shortcuts nor backups only plain hard work, persistence, faith, and passion.
..which now leads me to the second one,
This beautiful word (Meraki) represents what writing is to me. Few are given a chance to do what makes them happy but we, writers are blessed to make a living out of bothโwhat we do and love.
It was the year 2015 when I had my first writing jobโnothing planned. But someone believed in me so I took my shot. It wasnโt always smooth but I have worked my way from there. Iโve learned and still learning.
You see, despite all the challenges that I had with writing or life in general, here I am doing the sameโand not giving up. I guess itโs true that โdreamers really cannot be tamed.โ
Success, after all, is not made overnight..
which now brings me to my third and final word,
That despite being broken, our value doesn't depreciate--that we are just as beautiful and still hold our purpose in this world. Yes, there were the lowest of lowsโrejections, failed proposals, setbacks, anxiety, and what have you.
But there were also breakthroughs, wins, new experiences, stronger comebacks, and lessons learned. This is how I choose to see my journey.
I hope you, too, dare to dream, to keep on keeping on, to move forward or start over even.
No matter what, do not give up.
One day, your hard work will pay off and it will be worth it.
Capping this off with a beautiful quote from Ray Bradbury,
It was almost dark,
The first time we met.
You waited for me,
I kept my promise.
You donโt know the place,
Yet,
You came to see me,
Yes you did.
My heart was jumping,
With sheer delight but,
I hid what I felt,
Like a treasure box.
You arrived safe,
I sighed with relief.
Looked down, anxious,
Iโm late.
โIโm almost there,โ
I said.
Weโre so close to,
Seeing each other now.
I texted you โIโm here,โ
You then told me,
Where exactly,
You were.
Our eyes met,
For the first time,
If felt new yet
Oddly familiar.
We walked towards,
Each other,
Not a care about,
Everyone.
You smiled,
And my heart sang.
There stood my reality,
Welcoming me now.
Iโm restless, sometimes
I feel hopeless,
Rambling things and
Thoughts, inks, and notes,
Like Iโm bound to do
One thing or another,
My world in complete
Motion, yet time standing
Still, and daysโnever ending,
But Iโm no superhero,
I get tired too, cry and get
Mad when I feel the need to,
I want my life in order,
But clearly, Iโm a complex
Being, bursting with chaos,
Daunted but fighting.

You say 'been there, done that' but the truth is it still hurts, darn, it still does. You can forget someone but you'll never forget what you felt, the pain, anger and the exact madness you once allow yourself to be in.
It was almost dark,
The first time we met.
You waited for me,
I kept my promise.
You donโt know the place,
Yet,
You came to see me,
Yes you did.
My heart was jumping,
With sheer delight but,
I hid what I felt,
Like a treasure box.
You arrived safe,
I sighed in relief.
Looked down, anxious,
I am running late.
Weโre so close to,
Seeing each other now.
I texted you 'Iโm here,โ
You then told me,
Where exactly,
You were.
Our eyes met,
For the first time,
If felt new yet
Oddly familiar.
We walked towards,
Each other and,
Everything else,
A perfect blur.
You smiled,
And my heart sang.
There stood my reality,
Welcoming me now.

Most of what we cry over to sleep at night,
And still think of the rest of the day after,
Are the things we thought we would've done,
If we only had the courage to do so,
But believe me you 'beautiful' thing,
You deserve nothing but the best,
So face your fears, stop living in regrets,
And do what makes you happy.
The smell of books, flipping of pages, the sudden urge to get to the ending but wanting to begin again when youโre finally there. You get to be anyone you want, be in many places at once, be the heroine or the villain and live your dreams as if they were real. Your mood lightens up at the sight of books, a sense of euphoria when you own one. A repetitive scene of crying, laughing, frowning and smiling like hell, as if the whole world is yours and everything else is a void. Every chapter is filled with curiosity and excitement, an adventure to be explored towards the anticipated end. Nothing that only a reader can understand with a good book to sleep at night.
