Jamie waited outside the theatre, his back and one foot leaning against the brick wall. He was there to pick up Colette after her dress rehearsal and walk her back to his place. It was nearly midnight and there was no way he was letting her walk there by herself, even it meant changing into jeans and putting on a shirt that would cover his cast. He was still embarrassed about the thing, and it always brought about unnecessary questions from nosy people. As Jamie was waiting, he noticed someone familiar walking out of the building. He knew exactly who she was, but had completely forgotten her name. Shit, he thought, hoping she wouldn’t notice him.

After a long day in theatre, Mara was about to make her way to her house. Usually she would go out with the crew, maybe even have some drinks with the actors but today she wasn’t in the mood. Her eyes widened in surprise when she’d noticed a familiar face, even though she couldn’t remember the guy’s name, Mara decided to approach. “Hey.” She smiled, walking towards him. “I know you. We have met before, right?”

“Hey, hold that door!” Simone called out, her arms full of text-books and balance an open can of soda on top of them, simultaneously in the midst of a text message and desperately trying not to drop something. Luckily, she spotted someone ahead of her grabbing the door, though they were too far for common courtesy to dictate that they held it. If they didn’t she’d be screwed, though, so she seriously hoped that they would notice her desperate yelling. “I’m right behind you, hold it please!” 

“Simone?” The blonde called her friend’s name, her brow raised. The other woman probably didn’t recognize Mara from behind, not the mention she was wearing a huge hat because she was having a bad hair day. “Jeez, you are the queen of multitasking.” She gestured the shit load of books Simone has been carrying as she held the door.

“Thanks,” Bianca sat down in the free seat, feeling much, much better now before she waved the waiter down to order them a drink. “I thought it’ll be hard to get rid of a guy this hard before. I thought it’ll be easy, but I guess not.” she said with a shrug.

“You know, you could have just kept on walking,” Kelly pointed out, her brow raised. “You could have just went on your merry way without stopping and making both of our lives miserable,” she nodded. “But you love misery, don’t you Mara? I don’t think you know what it’s like to live life without being neck deep in some kind of drama.”

“Thank you,” he said with a relief smile before shaking his head. “Nah, I’m not a clown at children’s parties, though I felt like I was at my son’s party last week and it was a bit traumatizing-especially with all other children there screaming and making all that noise….”

I have to admit, it kinda feels weird to even say Sam’s name right now but I truly haven't thought about him in days. Or weeks. You know, it’s almost like Sam is not relevant. Perhaps he never was. @samharden

Honesty Hour

Basic, vegan bitches like you.

“You gotta be fucking kidding me” Kelly muttered, a heavy sigh escaping from her lips. Boston just wasn’t big enough. “Hello, Mara. Had I known I was in your presence I surely would have ran in the opposite direction. Small world, huh,” she cocked her head to the side. ‘Tell me, did you ever get back together with the ex or did he have to take out an order of protection on you too?”

“You know how caffeine addicts are always like, don’t talk to me unless I’ve had my coffee, blah blah blah,” Kelly asked, mocking the struggle of coffee enthusiasts everywhere. “Well, today, I have walked in their shoes, I have felt their struggle. My Thai Vegan Cafe is out of their lemon poppyseed cake and I’m ready to start taking names and kicking ass or something. This is a travesty. I don’t care if I’m sounding overdramatic. Where am I gonna get some vegan lemon poppyseed cake now? I sure as hell am not about to attempt to make it myself.”

Mara’s morning has been going just fine until she’s bumped into a familiar face. Kelly Jo Walsh. The woman who ruined her life. (Well, in truth she actually hasn’t done anything except dating the guy Mara got obsessed with but that was beside the point, in Mara’s irrational world, Kelly was the reason why things didn’t work out with her old flame.) Even her name was enough reason for Mara to roll her eyes and now she was hearing Kelly’s atrocious voice. She cringed as if she was hearing the the sound of nails on a chalkboard, the blonde let out a sigh as soon as Kelly finished her sentence. “You do sound like you don’t know the actual meaning of the word travesty.”

“Glad to know there’s someone else besides me who finds some order in their chaotic mess.” She smiled small. “I’ve got so many tests to grade today it’s ridiculous.” She sighed softly.
