mara is a high-born spacer-- the hale’s were well known on cronos, seeing as one of her ancestors was a scientist at the space station before the war. they kept their prestige over the last decades, with mara’s mother being a council member and her father having been head of security.
she only ever dreamed of being on the ground, and getting as far from people as she possibly could. living on cronos made her absolutely loathe small, crowded spaces. so when the ship crashed-- mara wasn’t completely devastated like everyone else was. she actually disappeared for a couple days, exploring hinton with no identification. she was nearly pronounced dead until someone from home spotted her.
on cronos, mara worked as a weapons engineer-- her specialty being the electric sabers frequently used by the hunters. she researches new sources of energy to make the blades, and even practices turning them different colors to be more personalized. now that she’s on the ground, she continues to work on the blades and guns, but she has also taken an interest to the weapons used on the ground. she knows if the factions want to beat the machines, they’ll have to combine what they know and use it against them.
she moved into the residential sector of hinton, desperate to get some space from the people she’d just spent most of her life with. though she still frequents cronos as that’s where her lab is.
mara really just wants to learn from the grounders, and more than anything, she wants to beat the machines. mara is highly competitive and stubborn, it takes a lot to sway her when her mind is already made up. she’s determined to bring elements of all the factions together to find a way to eliminate the machines.
