we got lost

the cheshire’s mouth twitched slightly at the words. “no need to get all ruffled. you look alright....for a human.” but if they were being honest they couldn’t help but find the forms rather boring. human’s never got any fun traits, even alice didn’t show her fun personality through her looks. it was awfully disappointing. they chuckled at that, tilting there head slightly and letting a lazy grin fall over their face. “not as forgiving huh? come on, i just want to have a little fun. what are they going to do? behead me?” after coming from wonderland they couldn’t find very much concern for how the humans would deal with them. besides, as much as the cheshire cat loved laying around this was a whole new world. they couldn’t just pass up the opportunity to mess around a little bit. “i bet you’re just hoping to sit around and drink tea.”

Charlie paused, just looking at her for a moment, before giving a small grin. “Maybe.” It wasn’t the first time someone implied they might be mad, and he highly doubted it would be the last. The grin didn’t last however and they turned away with a small huff. “I already said that, you don’t have anything better to do.” Was she just gonna sit and look bratty the whole time they were there. “I guess you don’t really look like a listener though.”

the cheshire cat wasn’t particularly concerned about their situation. sure, this place was painfully dull compared to wonderland, and they rather missed their colored fur, but it seemed they could still float and turn invisible among other things. maybe they could have some fun here. they had been sitting in a tree, keeping themselves invisible, finding observation the most important thing in the moment. they had almost been about to fall asleep when a curious face piqued their interest. slowly, a full grin fell over their face. there was no chance the cheshire was mistaken on this one. without hesitation they carefully floated over, until they were hanging lazily in front of them. only then did they make themselves visible. “and here i thought i’d have the place to myself. you were much cuter with your ears you know.” they commented lightly, batting at his hair.

usually it took a lot for charlie to get bored. they could nap to get through just about anything. still, something about the snow was making them restless, like they couldn’t sleep this one out. maybe it was because it didn’t feel warm enough? they did always like to feel like they were baking when the slept. with a sigh they rolled over from their spot splayed out on the ground so that they could look at the blonde girl charlie had gotten stuck with. she was upside down from the way they were lying but she still didn’t seem like the nicest of people. oh well. “hey. you don’t have anything better to do. let me braid your hair.”

It had taken Charlie a little bit of time to notice the gift outside of their place. They didn’t go out often and when they did they typically weren’t paying too much attention to their surroundings. If anything it was a holiday miracle that it wasn’t stolen. Still, now that they were looking through the gift they couldn’t help but smile a little. It was partially because of the fact that the gift was something they could actually use. They really had needed new tarot cards, their old ones were starting to look rather worn which was bad for readings. They were also pleased because some stranger had decided Charlie was the type who would want a Ouija board. It was the fun sort of image to put out. They sighed and started to head back inside. It had been a while since they had to cleanse tarot cards, best to do it before a customer showed up.

it had been easy to find seymour. charlie had just waited around by the flower shop where he worked until his shift was done. charlie didn’t bother with much of an introduction of a hello. “secret santa.” they just commented, handing over both a bag as well as a small cactus. sure they figured seymour could have plenty of plants, what with working as a florist, but who could say no to a cactus? no one, that’s who. the bag had a cute watering can they can found online, clearly made for smaller indoor plants, as well as a bunch of sweets charlie had tossed in for good measure. they had finally thrown in some incense.  they were pretty sure that was in right now, but really charlie couldn’t be sure, having just gotten it from his own place. “i could only go off of what was easy to find out about you.” they said it more as an explanation rather than an apology, figuring that even if it was almost all was about plants and wasn’t super creative seymour would hopefully still like it.

“No, probably not. No use in complaining about something you’re ultimately going to do.” That was a bit hypocritical on their part but Charlie believed it nonetheless. They reached out, taking a long sip of their hot chocolate and considering. “I don’t really care about the waiting I guess,” they could lounge around forever after all. “I just wish it wasn’t so loud. There’s no need to yell while waiting for a drink.”

charlie had been staring at the sweater that had unfortunately wound up on them for what felt like a few minutes now. they didn’t know how they wound up here. well, they did. they had figured putting on the thing would be the easy way out, less of a fight, but clearly they didn’t take into account how long they might be stuck wearing it for. “this is one of the most ridiculous things i have ever worn, and that’s saying something. how long do i have to keep this on for.” charlie muttered, picking at a string poking out by the sleeve. they had after all, back when they started fortune telling, gone for a fitting outfit. this was worse. “it’s not even warm. it’s lost its main purpose.” charlie complained, shooting a pout at maxwell as they wrapped their arms around themselves for emphasis. 

“i don’t know about hobbies, but i have some....interest, in the occult. really just coming from the job. i like to collect some nice crystals. they’re good for the energy, especially the purple ones.”
