Making progress on the armature, I've been having to make small adjustments to the proportions. Stuff like making the shoulders wider, etc. So when adding the joints and assembling the leg 'bones', (wooden dowels) the hip and knee connections where the bones overlap ended up making the thighs appear too short. And they in fact Were disproportionately short. (See image 2; the knee should reach the shoulder when bent like that, and the heel, which is not added yet, should reach the seat of the pants. The lower and upper legs should also be relatively the same length.) Thing is, it took me a Lot of effort and time to get the joints right on the legs, so I Am Not Doing That Again. Imao.

So for my solution, and if you know about the character I’m making the art doll of, I think you know where this all ends up going....

I made up some extra bits of dowels to make extensions for the legs. Used a fuckton of E6000 glue and a bunch of pins on the sides, and wrapped all that in embroidery thread to strengthen the hold, so that’s been taking a few days to get done. But before deciding to actually implement them, I did ruminate on whether or not I should do this in the first place. Because I would need to cut and essentially ruin the bones that have the joints on them, which are already attached to the armature. Therefore, if I fuck it up, I’m screwed, right? I’m saying I had ample time to think about this… (However, it looks like the glued parts are holding up so far, which is good!)

But. I only Just Now realized my funny as fuck troubleshooting escapades….

has his thighs chopped instead of his arms. Exactly where I ended up severing them. It took me way fucking longer than it should have to realize how hilariously coincidental that is. And it really Was a coincidence, I didn’t plan that in any way whatsoever. In fact, I double checked all the measurements multiple times in order to avoid having to go back and do this exact type of adjustment. (For the reason it’s Inevitable when I do stuff like this, despite my efforts. My art project curse #myartprojectcurse .)

Smh, little freak really IS doomed by the narrative in EVERY timeline, huh…?

Do they enjoy the torture? Is Tenna a robot, and that's why it can't be injected? They don't want to spend money on it??

Thank you!! ^^ The main reason/short answer is yeah, Tenna is very much A TV in this. (and whenever I draw/make stuff about him in general.) I really wanted to lean into how that would most realistically work, bc I really like coming up with analogs for electronic characters in medical situations. (grew up watching the brave little toaster and spent a lot of time in a computer drive repair place bored out of my mind as a wee bab.) I think challenging myself to figure out different procedures for repairs and stuff is a fun brain exercise and makes for some interesting scenes/storytelling. (and drawing ideas :3 ) (huge tangent incoming :P ) Plus, in the nature of the genre, it'd kinda feel boring if all the conflict/fun parts got skipped out on, imo. I think when I read/watch stories like this, I always wanna see what happens in "the during" and always get disappointed when they skip it. Akin to skipping over an action scene in a movie, you're leaving the interesting bits up to interpretation and robbing yourself of the feeling of suspense; of your heart pounding in your chest because you're following along with what the character you're watching is feeling. That scene in a horror movie where you're like, "ouhh what are they gonna do to blorbo??" would be missed out on. I could just hit the off button on him, but wheres the fun in that? The entire plot of the au would be 5 seconds long lmao. I Did play around with an idea with speculative anatomy, and the idea that he'd maybe have some magic based organic fantasy anatomy in some spots. Like maybe his tongue is a muscle (so he can talk/eat or something idk) and I thought about the idea that if they wanted to give him injections, they'd probably just stab him in the tongue. But then I was like, maybe that'd be too goofy or convoluted to some people, idk lol.

Recently remembered plastic welding is a thing so naturally I had to Inflict The Blorbo with a fun new and inventive way to torment him. >:3c

Also a good idea for repairing his cleaved red by blade as fuck arms.

Some extra writing bits and info about this under the cut, (copied from my most recent ask, bc it’s the same topic, and it’s more convenient for everyone if I just put a screenshot here :P )

Idk about the screen, bc that isn’t repairable irl, (you absolutely could find a way make it possible through darkner magic and speculative anatomy) but he’d definitely need to have the antenna soldered and splinted, maybe replacing some of the exterior if it’s torn. Any wires that got cut would have to be soldered together and re-insulated as well.

As for the casing on his arms and shoulders…

Have you heard of plastic welding? :) It’s basically heat-stapling something shut in the same way sutures/medical staples look and work. The type of plastic that CRTTVs are typically made of is a plastic that can be welded, so it’s perfect for him in this context.

While it seems functionally the same as soldering, with plastic welding, there’s these little squiggly bracket [ shaped metal ‘staples/pins’ that heat and melt the plastic around it. Then it’s embedded into the plastic and stays there afterwards to anchor each side together, rather than just only melting the material and relying on it sticking to itself. The pins on each end of the staples (meant to hold onto and heat them up) are then broken or cut off. If the plastic is then shaped with a flat heat tool to smooth it over, the pin can be hidden and lies just under the surface of the plastic. So, you know, permanent sutures!! Those are just there forever now. :)

Oh he absolutely would, bro is scurrying around and running under the cabinets like a hamster for sure. That’s why I imagine the Mikes would probably have to get him into a room and lock the door before they tell him he has an appointment, to which he’d inevitably respond by going Stuart Little Mode™️ and then they’d have to manage getting him into a cat carrier.
