one of my closest friends last weekend told me she pulled back bc she felt I was only ever talking about myself for the last while, and I’ve felt so fucking sad and stupid over it. I love her dearly and I’m immensely interested in her life, and I wish I had been more mindful about showing that through my actions. I apologized and we seem to be “good,” but now she’s pulled back even more and I just feel so sad. I don’t know what to do except give her space, which I know is all I can do. It’s really triggered wounds around being a burden, that I’m inherently unlikeable, being selfish, and abandonment. I wish she told me sooner, which she admitted she should have. But I realize I need to be held accountable for my actions and all that.
I’ve been a bit self-absorbed lately because my emotions and mental health have been all over the place. This situationship I’m in has wreaked havoc on my nervous system, and I know I need to end it.
I feel so selfish and just stupid; when she pulled back I didn’t think anything of it because she has 2 kids, she has other friends, and she has her own life. It hurts to know she had been making up excuses to not hangout. It hurts to know she was doing all this, holding this resentment, and still asked me to watch her kids for 3 hours last week, which I did happily.
My birthday is coming up but I don’t feel like celebrating. I feel like I’m not deserving of being celebrated. Mother’s Day just passed and that’s always a difficult day for me. I had a really good first date yesterday, but I still feel this emptiness because I love my friend so much, and I can’t do anything except give her space.
