As much as I love everyone getting together as a family for wine and a lesson in how to make spaghetti, I wish S7E2 “Proof” wasn’t the end of Reid giving JJ and Prentiss the cold shoulder
I mean, there was something so visceral about JJ basically saying, “I get that your mad because we wounded your pride and made you seem like a less effective profiler because we can control our micro-expressions”
And Reid saying, “I am mad, Jennifer, because I cried in your arms for ten weeks straight after the losing my friend, and the pain was enough to make me consider going back to drugs, but apparently, you knew the truth all along and betrayed my trust in you.”
Just JJ thinking it’s about pride, and Reid shutting that down as harshly as he can because it’s not and it never was. And maybe that hurt him, too, the fact that JJ was so wrong about why he was ignoring her
And they really could’ve kept it going in the next few episodes because the thing about Reid is that his anger was manifesting as a few snide remarks and a refusal to engage in personal conversation/jokes. He did not refuse to work with JJ; he did not ignore her words or interrupt them. He remained extremely competent with the job
It would’ve been great to see Reid emotionally withdrawing from the entire BAU. He still does his work, but he stops joking and laughing
And I’d want him to stop info-dumping as well. As much as I love it, I need the BAU to have something they thought annoyed them completely stop. There’s a hollowness in their conversations with Reid where he used to yap at them. He just stares silently and moves on now

They ALL forgave and forgot too quickly. I’m always shocked he didn’t get more mad at Emily for claiming she lost 6 friends and Spencer only had to lose one. Everyone involved should have been more mad at eachother idgaf!!!

Just finished s12e13 and what stood out to me was how Spencer was so polite with the Mexican police despite being high and terrified. Like oh my god bro my heart
spencer who loves to nap with you, whether it’s the both of you curled up together, or just him laying his head on your shoulder or lap with a book until he dozes off (and feels honored when you do the same to him)
spencer who wants to stay awake to spend more time with you (and he does make an effort) but you just make him feel safe and regulate his nervous system so good he can’t help how sleepy he gets
spencer who struggles to sleep very well when you’re not there with him so you let him borrow a sweater or shirt or scarf or anything soft that smells like you when he’s away on a case
spencer in the colder months reciting data about conserving body heat and the neuroscience of cuddling as he nuzzles into your neck
spencer sometimes even just burrowing under your shirt to lay on your tummy and listen to your heartbeat when his head hurts or he feels especially clingy
I feel like this skit is what Spencer Reid's childhood would have been like if his family hadn't been totally dysfunctional

I think a crucial part of Spencer Reid’s character is that he’s a little bit feminine. He grew up basically only talking to his mom. Most of the men in his life he sees as parental figures (Rossi, Gideon, Hotch). He makes friends with the women on the team a lot quicker than he does the men. His relationship with masculinity is incredibly fragile and we see that clearly with his interactions with Morgan in s1. I think it’s also interesting that Spencer grows his hair out and starts dressing a little more eccentricly around s3-4 when memoriam happens and hes trying to process it (the hair thing is just MGG but shhhh let me theorise). He puts in so much effort to distance himself from the men who have hurt him.
It sorta makes him even more othered from the team because the rest of his team members (for the most part) are a lot less androgynous than him. I dunno it’s just something I appreciate about him
he is also bisexual (canon cuz i said so)
In s12e12 Spencer takes the time to comfort a gay victim despite going through some of the worst shit of his life (trying to find a cure for his moms Alzheimer’s) and you could say that that’s just an example of his extreme empathy, and it is, but Spencer seems to mainly talk to the victims he relates to. Also Ethan episode also Jeff Davis said he wanted Spencer to be bisexual and I’m taking that and running with it because I like the notion

Spencer has afrid and he’s lowkey malnourished
Mango stamp of approval he told me so himself!! I find it hard to believe Spencer has a normal relationship with food based on his childhood alone. I imagine his home was pretty dirty at times bc of Diana’s condition and I also think food was probably kinda scarce (Spencer totally prioritised his mom over himself) but also he’s an autistic man with pretty clear sensory issues. Add onto that the fear I would imagine he has about meat after the rotting flesh Hankel used in revelations, Spencer has a lot of trauma around food. Even if his ARFID isn’t avoidant (sensory based) there’s gotta be some aversive (fear based) stuff going on. Btw ARFID in prison. Just a thought!
