Immersive Musing

Hello all of you amazing folks --

NYC theater has been dark for over a year. While there is some light at the end of this tunnel, it's dim and far away for people who haven't seen a regular paycheck since last March.

And so the Lost Immersive folks are putting on another show and fundraiser!!! We can't wait to bring this new project to you! Last Halloween, the immersive fan community came together in an amazing way and gave tangible and desperately needed support to the performers, staff, and crew of NYC's immersive productions. I'm so proud of all of us!

On May 1st, we are hosting another amazing show! I'm looking forward to sharing more about it as we get closer to the date, but trust me -- there is a lot in this show that you will love. We also have some spectacular art and artifacts and surprises that will be auctioned off to benefit the fundraiser.

Which brings me to...THE FUNDRAISER!!!

Have you been doing a little bit better lately? Is your tax return on it's way or has a stimulus payment landed in your bank account? Have you been able to work from home without a loss of income? If that is the case, could you think back over this year and imagine how much money you would have spent on ticket to theater shows? How many cocktails would you have savored in The Manderley? Could you think in those terms when considering how much to give to help the people who have given so much to all of us?

I so loved the Hitchcock party that I made a playlist of the songs that were referenced and used in it.

While I am super proud of the fact that I found the song that appeared in the amazing walled garden performances, I know I have missed some from other parts of the party. Feel free to post suggestions for additions!

On this day in 1040, Duncan I of Scotland was killed by Macbeth’s troops while invading what is now Pitgaveny in Scotland. He was 39. He was survived by a wife and two (maybe three) sons.

If you’re headed to the show tonight, please tip your mask to Duncan, who died today and everyday thereafter.

Two weeks ago I did something I’d never done before - cancel an SNM visit day of. I was doing my usual walk from 14th to 27th when I got the call to come home, and the next day we had to say goodbye to my beloved Claude. This Tuesday was the do-over, and a Follies, because the building always knows.

I just ran the numbers - have been doing this for 7 and a half years, and 7.5 is roughly 29% of 26. 30% of my LIFE. Jesus. I never learn. Just now my roommate (who lives with me in my apartment, where I live, where I pay rent, like an adult human) saw me furiously typing and asked if I’m working on PhD apps. I never, ever, ever learn.

I was admittedly pretty checked out for most of the show - sad for my boy, I guess. On that note, I don’t think I’ve ever talked about what my favorite song in the show is. It’s My Man. I’m bad at catching it usually, since it plays on the fourth floor during the rave, and I’m rarely on 4 at that time unless I’m at the rave itself, where you can’t hear it. But I was determined this time, because I used to sing it to Claude when he was sick. So I hung out in the taxidermist’s shop, which is not somewhere I’m used to spending any amount of time, and checked out the animals.

Animals in the McKittrick aren’t really my thing, although they’re certainly a major motif. Birds, of course, but also mammals. A few visits back I talked about the role of the witches’ three familiars in the hotel - Paddock whiskey, Greymalkin wine, etc. I took a look at the inscription over the dead frog in Grace’s room. It says something like “I do not want to hurt this frog, but….” I also never noticed the hedgehog in the taxidermist’s case. I have mentally named him Tyrone, which was Claude’s middle name.

Yay Virginia/Hecate! It was interesting to see her and Stephanie JL do the Hec/Agnes scene, since they look so much alike.

Something I’ll never be good at is remembering which staircase to go down when heading for the lobby, in order to avoid getting stuck on the wrong side of the lobby during Lady Macduff’s murder. It’s the red side. Red dress, red side.

The new porter (I don’t know him, floppy hair), is very adept at his note signing and origami skills. He makes the note you have to take back to Hecate into more of a raft than a sailboat - basically a canoe with a flag. That thing ain’t makin it.

Paisley Sweets is mixing it up a bit, by which I mean I ate about 10 of the red licorice bites. They also have a business card now - purveyors of fine chocolate and bonbons since 1874.

The minute Camara/Matron took my mask off I for some reason thought of the Tumblr post that just says, “the aight gatsby,” which is one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen, and so I spent the whole 1:1 trying not to laugh.

Sorry this recap was so essentially pointless. Also, I realized I never pointed out that Claude was a cat.
