This isn't to downplay their situation, of course, because it IS terrible, but the only control you have over them is what you control. It always boggles my mind when people talk about stuff like in chapter 3, with the mini-Kris that goes off-screen, and then say that "the player" went off-screen and did whatever. YOU are the player! If you didn't personally do it, then "the player" / "the soul" didn't. Even with the dialogue options you get, Kris is still the one who makes the final decision on HOW it gets said. When you try to ask Noelle or Rudy about the shelter by just choosing "key", you can tell that Kris very obviously changes the context (Noelle asking if she was singing off-key, Rudy talking about key lime pie).

... Also saying this because people use the fact that "the player" controls Kris to say that their friendship with Susie isn't real, when it totally is. Every single fun interaction they have, every time Kris jumps to defend her, unless you're somehow getting an option to do these things, it's Kris doing that. I find this pretty definitive, given that Kris will deny Susie a high five in Weird Route ch4
