“What? No, mom, no. Mika isn’t pregnant. I’m just saying I could have a child that was as old or barely older or younger than my sibling.”

“I’ve never threatened to spank one of my kids, but if you give your mom a heart attack like that again, bug. Listen, you’re concerned and I get that. I hear you. But you also have to understand that I had you and your brother and sister very young, Tan. If I I had waited, the gap wouldn’t be this big, but it would also mean that I wouldn’t have you guys and I don’t regret that.”

“Yeah, when it’s five or maybe even ten, not twenty or more mom. By the time this kid was ready for high school, I could have a family of my own. There’s entirely a chance that I could have a child who was a few years younger or the same age as a sibling of mine. Do you know how fucked up that is?”

“Hold up. Is Mika pregnant? Is that why you were in such a rush to move in with her? Because if she is, your brother or sister being twenty years younger than you is going to be the least of your worries.”

“feel free to, i love giving people some real mexican food from time to time. look, anytime you and donkey face want some good authentic food just let me know and we’ll have a little lopez-pierce fiesta. and ruin this body? of course i didn’t want to go through birth, but i don’t think i really can have kids. i got told that in my twenties and then when britt and i decided on having kids, she was more than willing to use her womb and adopt so my womb was just never really on the table.”

“You know I’m always down for authentic food and our favorite family. It’d be nice to have an excuse to make Willa spend at least one more day with her fam jam before she jets off to the big city. I have to admit, there’s really nothing quite like squeezing a nine pound watermelon through tiny lady bits only to have them abandon you as soon as they get a little sense of freedom so I can’t blame you. Real talk, though. Birth is kind of actually amazing. If you were able to have kids, I’d easily tell you that you missed out on some incredible stuff.”

“There’s always time! Have one or two more maybe, adopt ten! You could start a family band.”

“I’m not quite sure that would fly in the Lynn house. I’m meeting a lot of resistance with the kids over adding just one more, I couldn’t imagine the revolt that would happen with more.”

“You see, the logical mom part of me knows you’re right… But the dumbass Evans blood running through my veins says if I sit still for too long I’ll waste away.”

“Yikes. I watched Sam do enough dumb during my high school career, it’s hard to believe anyone else was saddled with those genes.”

Sydney: I have, but I am trying really hard to stay neutral. I don't want him doing something because he thinks I want him to do it. I just want him happy.

“And it doesn’t bother you that we’ll basically have no real relationship wtih this kid?”

“Plenty of siblings have age differences, Tanner Hayden. The only way you’ll have no real relationship is if you choose not to.”

“I don’t need a kick in the butt.”

“Look kiddo, I know you’ve got this. You have some setbacks, sure, but not even a few college classes could knock a Lynn out of the game. What’s holding you back?”

Sydney: I just want him happy. That's all I ever want. Whether that means signing up for classes or not, that part doesn't matter to me. I would just hate for him to talk himself out of it because he doesn't think he can do it and would rather just not even try. but I also don't want him to think I need him to take classes or anything or that I will think less of him if he doesn't because that's just not true. and I'm not sure how to be there and be supportive without letting him give up on himself.

“Okay, so explain. You’re having another kid?”

“Your dad and I have talked about it and we’ve decided to try. Nothing is guaranteed yet, but we’re trying, yes.”

“Meaning to talk to me about it? Good job with that. Mom this is…insane.”

“Tanner... it’s been a busy time for us all, with your sister leaving and your brother getting married. We’ve just been looking for the right time to sit you all down and explain.”

“…What? Mom…you can’t be serious.”

“Your dad and I have been meaning to talk to you about it, bug. It, um... it’s a thing that I am serious about, actually.”

Sydney: I do too. I just worry he's going to do that thing where he shuts down and pushes something away because he's afraid to try. Levi is so smart, I'm sure I don't have to tell you that, I just hate for him to fail before he's even started. But I don't know how to talk to him about it without seeming preachy or as if I think it's necessary for him to get a college education.

Sydney: No, no it's nothing like that.

Sydney: I presume he mentioned the college thing to you?

Sydney: Hi Mrs. Lynn, it's Sydney. I needed to talk to you, it's about Levi.

Kitty: Of course, what's going on with Levi?

You would think at two in the morning clients wouldn’t call about needing to meet to discuss his new layout, but alas. This lad doesn’t understand the meaning of working hours. 

Work never stops. I’ve spent too many nights slaving over numbers and waffle designs because people couldn’t get their heads together long enough to learn what the term ‘delegate’ means.

“Because I barely finished high school. The only reason I did finish is because I knew you’d strike me down like the hand of God if I tried to drop out.”

“You want me to threaten it again? I’d be more than willing to if it’s the small kick in the butt you need for this.”
