Bold Cold

I’m like the cold air,

invisible – but it still stings

the tip of your nose 

and puts red in your lips

it can be harsh, you’ll have to strut to brush it off

move to distract yourself. To forget it. 

…but it’s still there.

I’m like the snow,

peaceful and calm to the eye,

but underneath is a frozen flower, fighting. 

Dreaming of the warm sun that will bring it back to life. 

It melts when you touch it. I melt too. 

It’s like the cold, cruel winter that eventually passes,

gives way to a beautiful spring. Full of color and light

Longer days that help you forget all about the snow

how the cold air felt against your skin,

…against my skin.

You see it in photographs and look back longingly, maybe even miss it from time to time. 

But you take no action to relive it. 

Just like me when it’s over, you’re relieved.
