Pretty sure someone did something like this before but I CANNOT CONTAIN MY EMOTIONS so here we go:

To get y’all into the right mindset look at this picture of CRUSHED Kirishima after Bakugo was taken.

OUCH. 

Okay now that this is out of the way lemme get to the point in the most rambly way possible. This is a long rant about my emotions and bullshit so better be ready for this.

I LOVE the rescue scene and I LOVE how MUCH VALUE it puts on Kirishima’s and Bakugo’s relationship (with and without shipper goggles). This is one of the strongest scenes I’ve ever seen in an anime when it comes to more or less subtle contextual meanings.

Back at the hospital it first of all it starts with this very beautiful moment of Kirishima reaching his hand out to Deku, telling him that his “hand can still reach” (which is STILL ironic because you know, bandages but I love you anyways Kirishima). I could go on about more in this but it would include manga spoilers and I do not wanna do that so no analysis about Kirishima’s character here. All I’ll say is: Kiri just really REALLY wants to go and rescue Bakugo. He is pained to the point that he’s willing to risk being expelled from UA for attempting the rescue. He was SECOND best in the entrance exam. He worked HARD. Yet he still wants to try it cause tbh I think otherwise he would just absolutely lose it. He is a determined boy and I am proud of him.

it’s a parallel to later, when it’s actually HIM who reaches out to Bakugo. Isn’t it beautiful how Kirishima yet needs to realize how SPECIAL he is to Bakugo???  Also,  I assume that Kirishima, just because Deku and Bakugo grew up together, thinks that Midoriya should be there to rescue Bakugo. After all, Deku knows Bakugo best, right? 

Turns out that he does, Midoriya manages to predict Bakugo’s behaviour very precisely and I am SO proud of Deku for actually managing to take a step BACK to take a more passive role in the rescue. We all know he actually looks up to Bakugo and I’m sure he would LOVE to be the one rescueing him, but he’s  aware of how much this would crush Bakugo’s pride and that’s good. 

Bakugo himself told Deku to NOT. COME. AFTER HIM. It’s something that concerns Midoriya throughout the rescue and its planning again and again. 

Either way, later when they do the rescue thing, and that’s the beautiful thing about this scene, they appear anyways. Use the opening that our smart boi Mido-kun found to get to their BOI Bakugo, who is a poor stressed baby who really just wants an out of this situation, he does not want any of this villain bullshit.

So when Iida, Midoriya and Kirishima crash through the wall with Kiri’s hardening the ice appears and our bois do a slide up (oh Iida I love your fake moustache)

We get a good look on the posotions of all the characters. What a good establishing shot (also of Twice’s butt wtf)

Either way, look at the position. It is DARK, it’s night, and assuming that Deku’s One For All bizzams aren’t just anime show but actually there, Bakugo KNOWS it’s Deku. He KNOWS that he is there, and from the ice he can also tell that Todoroki is there. The high speed is an Iida thing, so he also knows Iida is there.

Just looking at this angle and the way they hold Kirishima, it is IMPOSSIBLE for Bakugo to tell that Kiri is there. He might see that there’s another person (maybe) but he can’t see Kiri.

And then he gives us THIS face.

First it’s surprise.

Then it’s anger.

Look at him. Teeth grit, brows furrowed, his nose is scrunched up. He does NOT look like he wants to be saved. He told Deku NOT to come and yet he did. Bakugo might be stressed, yeah. But he’s ANGRY. He’s mad at Midoriya for appearing, and he does not want any of these other people to rescue him either. He’s stronger than them, he can do this on his own. At this point he does NOT look like he would turn to them if they called out to him.

And then Kirishima turns around, straight out looks at him and it’s probably the first time Bakugo actually had a good look on who this third person is.

And then we get this moment when the music stops, when the shot of Bakugo’s movement actually LEANS and MOVES right towards the direction of Kirishima’s hand from the shot right before this one and his eyes are wide and full of realization. Suddenly we see a HUGE change in Bakugo not just in this scene, but as a character. He TRUSTS somebody, he LISTENS to somebody.

(EDIT: blackbarbooks noted that the veins in his eyes are gone when he realizes it’s kiri. Suddenly soft eyes)

And OH MY GOD I need to take a breather here, I LIVE for this next part where Bakugo just stands there, all still, then his clothes start to flutter up and he is GONE. Off to grabbing Kirishima’s hand, and he goes STRAIGHT for his hand. He does not even try to do anything else, he just STRAIGHT. FLIES OVER. TO KIRISHIMA (this is the most romantic bullshit I’v EVER seen in my life and it was also the moment I became a Kiribaku shipper)

I LOVE how he did another, second explosion to keep up the momentum.

And then their hands FINALLY meet and now it’s my heart that explodes.

Now LOOK at this gif and just….

uhm HELLO?! Bakugo is actually SMILING the MOST genuine Bakugo smile we’ve seen so far?? Look at how he SQUEEZES Kirishima’s hand. How he actually shows relief and happiness and is just so glad to see Kirishima’s shitty hair.

This is just a beautiful moment in a beautiful scene that shows SUCH GOOD character development.

Bakugo made a friend! Kirishima manged to crack a super hardcore shell just by forcing his friendship onto this grumpy boy! And by doing this they actually HAD a chance to save Bakugo from the villains here.

And Deku actually stepped back. For the first time he did NOT get hurt when rescueing someone. 

Kirishima means SO MUCH to Bakugo and vice versa. And if this scene doesn’t prove that they have an actual bond with each other then I do not know what will.

Oh and also, did you guys NOTICE that Kirishima tried to take Bakugo’s hand again after the entire All Might vs All For One fight was over? But Bakugo pulled his hand away because come on, the boy was obviously upset like everybody else about what happened to All Might and instead of taking it personal Kiri is just like “oh, ok.” 

And when Bakugo clearly tells him with his behaviour that now is NOT the time Kiri just goes like

“Oh well”
