–IH has been obvious since the pilot chapter. Ichigo and Orihime had mutual romantic feelings for each other in the bleach prototype, Kubo’s original plan for bleach. Here’s a post on it. –If you really, truly want to argue that Ichigo and Orihime “barely had any moments!” luckily, I was insane enough to create a masterpost with links to every single IH moment in the manga (which had to be split in half because it literally broke due to having too many links on it). Part One is here, Part Two is here. It has over 377 links. Say what you will, but IchiHime has the most moments and screentime of any other pairing by a landslide.

–The amount of focus that was put on Ichigo’s desire to protect Orihime specifically is MASSIVE. It was made more than apparent how much Ichigo cared about Orihime and how important she was to him, by the level of focus that was put on Ichigo’s protectiveness over her, specifically. It’s something that singled her out as special and set her apart from the others, time and time again. It was consistently emphasized in the manga, and, conversely, so too was Orihime’s desire to protect Ichigo specifically. Their mutual desires to protect each other was a recurring theme. I’ve made a masterpost on this too, which you can find here. Warning, it’s long. –Ichigo is open and receptive to Orihime’s displays of her feelings for him in positive ways. The fact that she cares about him so much doesn’t bother him in the slightest. In fact, he likes it. Here’s another link.

With that out of the way, let’s get to it

OG Sesshomaru slaying all the perverts and gross people that are trying to make the Yashahime version of him marry his adopted daughter and have kids with her.

Inuyasha’s Lord Sesshomaru is a freaking gentleman. When Kagura was injured and overall topless, he didn’t glance at her once after saving her from the river. He was respecting her privacy. 👏

He saved a drugged/poisoned Kagome from being sexually harassed and forcibly wed to Mukotsu, he respected a badly injured Kagura by not looking at her when her torso was exposed, and adopted Rin who had been traumatized and abused by her village after her family’s deaths. 👏👏👏

Hell, when Rin fell into the river to save the wounded Kagura and Jaken fell in trying to save Rin, Sesshomaru didn’t have to rescue all three of them plus Jaken’s staff. He could have left Kagura. Instead he saved all of them. Not to mention that when he was annoyed by having to do so, he only hit JAKEN upside the head. Not Kagura or Rin.

And (admittedly this an anime only episode) Lady Sara! She was being tormented by the demons she sold her soul to, deeply in love with Sesshomaru and horrified by their hatred of him, and was suffering because of it. He could have killed her with tokijin. Instead, he used tenseiga to send her to a peaceful afterlife, and placed her flute in her ashes- wishing her well.

And when Kagura died and Moryomaru insulted her, Sesshomaru was angry. He was so angry that he broke TOKIJIN, because he wasn’t going to stand for her being insulted. He wasn’t going to let another person say her death was in vain.

He also spared Kohaku, who was under Naraku’s control and tried to kill Rin. He knew Kohaku wasn’t himself, because if the lifelessness in his eyes. He knew Naraku wanted him to kill the boy. But he didn’t, and much later Sesshomaru even allowed Kohaku to travel with him and even went so far as to protect him.

Why? Because Sesshomaru, despite his faults, is loyal. He’s respectful. He doesn’t talk much or emote and is too proud to ever admit he has emotions and actually cares, but it’s there in his actions.

He travels the world in search of powerful opponents, and becomes a reluctant father figure along the way. He helps his so-called enemies, the Inugang, while continuously denying that he was actually there to help. He “only kills those that get in his way” and he always tells the people/demons to “move” before striking them down, for he gives them a chance to leave with their lives. They’re the ones who don’t take his warning seriously. He doesn’t kill for the joy of it, but rather only when he finds it a necessity.

Sesshomaru- pardon me. Lord Sesshomaru is an anti-hero. He may have started out as a bad guy, but he isn’t a bad guy. He would never touch his daughter, whom he had mourned twice due to her deaths, and left in a village for her own safety and growth while still visiting to ensure she was doing well. He grieved Kagura, which was the final step for him to obtain a heart fully capable of empathy and compassion, which led to him mastering tenseiga and even surpassing his father- thus obtaining the sword bakusaiga and regaining his left arm.

Lord Sesshomaru would never approve of SessRin. Which is why Yashahime Sesshomaru is #Not Our Sesshomaru.

LIKE, do you guys remember when he brought Kanta’s father back to life? (the headless river otter yokai)

In that scene he comes across the InuGang, Kanta, and his beheaded father, who died before Kanta could get his head back to him. Kagome asks him to use Tenseiga to bring Kanta’s father back, he says “Why should I?” (clearly uninterested), Inuyasha even tries to appeal to his ego saying he couldn’t even use it if he wanted to and this MF is just like “Yup, sure, what he says” (zero fucks to give).

But Shippo begs, BEGS Sesshomaru for Kanta’s father’s life, and Sesshomaru pauses. Shippo, who knows what it’s like to loose his father, and doesn’t want his friend to loose his father too. Sesshomaru also knows what it’s like to loose his father. And despite the fact that he acts like he hated his father so much, I feel like a small, secret part of him (that he’d never admit to having) knew what Shippo and Kanta were feeling.

I think in the end this empathy is what woke the Tenseiga up, and made it call out to Sesshomaru to be used then to bring the otter back to life.

I feel like this is why Sesshomaru seems to have such a connection to orphaned children in the story too. In his heart of hearts (tiny, black, and hidden as it is) he knows their pain, and empathizes with it, and wants to help.

When Kagome and Inuyasha were separated inside Naraku (this probably sounds really weird outside of context to the people on my blog, lol) Lord Sesshomaru protected Kagome. He even let her ride on his fluffy mokomoko/boa thing when he started flying about. When Inuyasha got possessed by the dark spirit of the jewel, Lord Sesshomaru fought to bring him back to his senses, all the while keeping Kagome safe.

Way earlier in the series, around season two I believe, after Inuyasha first went wild and his demon blood took control, and Lord Sesshomaru discovered the corpse of Goshinki, he went out of his way to speak to the sentient tree that the sheaths for tenseiga and tetsusaiga were made from, to figure out why Inuyasha’s demon blood took over. While mostly curious and confused as to why his blood smelled like his and their father’s, he then learned it was also a threat to the half-demon’s well being when it happened.

After approaching Inuyasha- who had been poisoned and went crazy again because his and everyone lives were danger because of the moth demon- he decided to momentarily fight him to gauge if he still had his senses.

Seeing that he didn’t and that Inuyasha was just going to keep fighting/killing until he was struck down himself, Lord Sesshomaru knocked him out and told Kagome how to reverse the transformation. While it was mostly done out of a sense of “only I, Sesshomaru, can kill him, but there’s no point in it if he isn’t even aware” the point still goes to show that he saved him.

There are even other times in the series, and even the third movie (which I absolute love, even though it’s not canon) where it shows he’s protected Inuyasha. Such as when So’unga in the final battle launched the dragon twister at the pair of brothers, but Lord Sesshomaru pushed him out of range with the excuse of “You’re in the way!” before proceeding to shield himself with tenseiga and it’s sheath.

He also, of his own free will, went to the dying Kagura when he caught her scent, knowing it was her despite her smelling identical to Naraku, and even thought about using tenseiga to save her- only to inevitably realize that not even the sword could bring her back. And while she died, she was still in the air- becoming the wind itself, as she finally got what she wanted. Freedom, and the chance to see him one last time.

Lord Sesshomaru is THE best character in my opinion, with the greatest development and arc in Inuyasha. And I refuse to accept the way Yashime is butchering his beautiful and amazing character.

Hell, he was more in character in the video game Inuyasha: Secret of the Cursed Mask. His secret ending made sense! There was nothing overtly or even slightly romantic upon first glance, but him learning and accepting yet another human is just another way to show how much he’s grown since his first appearance.

Sunrise can catch these hands if they try to pull anything on Saturday 👏👏👏 My man, the real Lord Sesshomaru and not the disgrace they have made, would dragon strike them all first chance if he saw what was happening.

I feel like something precious was stolen from me today. My third year of Animation school in 2001, a friend gave me a VHS tape of the first 17 episodes of Inuyasha with fan-subtitles. I was in a deep depression at the time due to lots of personal issues and stress with school, and ‘Inuyasha’ lit up my life. I watched that tape over and over again. When new episodes premiered on Japanese television, I eagerly awaited for the fansubs to be uploaded to translation sites. When the series caught up to the manga, I went into Japan town and bought the newest issue of the manga as it was being published and would spend a week with a Japanese > English dictionary trying to read it. It was my world.

Today, Sunrise has made the terrible choice of having Sesshoumaru impregnate the girl he fed and clothed between the ages of 8 and 11. Even worse, at age 14.

Words cannot describe the devestation I feel. I am a child abuse victim and of course, that plays a large part in why it was so triggering. But also, I feel like the original franchise will be forever marred by this. It has been stolen from me. The thing that once made me happy- that pulled me away from self-destructive habits like self-harm. And as an artist, being able to draw cute images of child Rin with Sesshoumaru has been stolen from me as well. For even if I denounce this sequel and claim it not canon, I can never draw a cute image of Rin and her ward again without the terrible implications- without it simply being ‘Sesshoumaru and his future child-bride’.

Let’s do some smashing of their arguments!

1. “The age of consent in Japan is 13!!” Okay... no, not in the way you’re thinking. A thirteen year old can consent to another thirteen year old. A thirteen year old cannot consent to someone, say, 19 years old. This is not even factoring in that, just like the Untied States have different consent laws in different states, Japan has different consent laws in different prefectures.

2. “It’s the Fedual Era!! People had families young all the time!!!!” Again.... no. That was done in noble families, and only done in extreme cases. Do you want to know why? Because a fourteen year old girl rarely, in *our modern times* can carry a baby, a SINGLE baby to term. Either the girl will die, the baby will die in the womb, the baby will be born prematurely and risk extreme health problems, or the baby AND girl will die.

Why is that the case? Periods are a sign of puberty. It means that the body is undergoing the changes to become a fully formed adult. Periods are a early-to-mid sign of puberty. Yes, she has eggs and can be impregnated, but a good portion of her body isn’t ready in the same way as her reproductive system. Puberty ends around the age of 16 for girls.

“Oh so it’s okay if Rin gets pregnant at 16?” No! Because mentally, the brain doesn’t mature until the age 25.

“Then why can people do x at 18?!” Because the government decided they could. 18 usually signals that the body has matured, and matured bodies are GREAT for war. The general idea is ‘if we can go to war at 18, why can’t we do x?’ Even then, there are some things, like Alcohol, that require being aged 21 (in the United States).

3. “Rin wanted this!!” Yeah, and you know what else kids want at her age? To play and have fun. Think about what YOU were doing at age 13. Were you having sex with a man way older than you? If you were, I’m incredibly sorry for you and your experiences.

But let’s explore how Rin “wanted this”. Sesshomaru saved her life. He was a driving factor in how she overcame her trauma. He had /power/ over her. If he told her to walk off a cliff, she would. Why? Because she absolutely trusts him. She would never question why he’s telling her to walk off a cliff, because it never crosses her mind that he might want to hurt her.

“That’s not the same thing” it’s an allegory.

Now, oftentimes pedophiles will go into positions of power where they have unrestricted access to young children, and where they’re unlikely to be questioned. Boy/Girl Scout leaders. Youth Ministers. Priests. Police. Teaching. Am I saying that everyone who takes up this role is a pedophile? No! Absolutely not! BUT. These are some of the most common positions infiltrated by pedophiles because it makes children trust them, it makes parents less likely to scrutinize their actions, and they’re normally well liked by the community.

So. Sesshomaru was her caretaker. She trusts him absolutely. What he says must be right and okay. After all, he wouldn’t do anything to hurt her, right?

I'm still firmly in the she shouldn't have been fridged to begin with camp and have a chance to grow up around humans that love her. I would have loved to see her marry someone in the village or Kohaku and really join the Mirsan family. Or just idk be a well adjusted woman who has found a way to maximize her third chance at life.
