Your dad and I got pretty lucky with you. While the two of us alone can bore you to tears (literally), you are smitten with a crowd. You love to flirt with EVERYONE in the room and your new thing is to wave. A person could have been in the room for 10 minutes, but you will still throw a wave their way. A very graceful, princess-like wave. (And they say the UK had the first Princess Charlotte. PISH POSH!)

You can, contrary to public opinion, be quite challenging when you want to be. Diaper changes for instance. You realize that we’d be done a lot sooner if you just stayed on your back... right? No? Well, it’s true. Try it sometime. You’d be amazed! When I called the insurance company to have you added to our policy earlier this year, the lovely lady I spoke to gave me a lecture about Capricorns. Apparently, you’re stubborn. I understand now.

“Curiosity” could be your middle name. I wholeheartedly believe that the time-lapse video setting was made for you. Watching you move from one toy, to the next, to your books, to the coffee table, to dad, to the window (to the wall!), back to the first toy... woman, it’s fucking exhausting. But hilarious. And adorable. You are so smart, Charlie Bean. I cannot wait to see what you do with each passing year. I love seeing you explore and discover new skills. Don’t ever lose your sense of wonder! (2nd song reference this paragraph. Your mom is hella hip, kiddo.)

You have given me the ability to look at the world with kinder eyes. You have given me the ability to find the silver lining in every situation. (You rolled over during the diaper change but you didn’t pee all over the place!) You have given me the greatest gift I could ever imagine - the title “Mom.” It’s a title I don’t take for granted, and one I will wear proudly for the rest of my days.

I love you more than words can comprehend, my sweet bean. You are my sunshine.
