“Jewell'd Waters of Radiance.

A Sacred Bath For Women; being a most excellent preparation for the rites of any sylvan goddess, nymph, female spirit or deific form. The Balneum requires generous amounts of fresh flowers, hence several hours should be allotted for gathering, being ever mindful of the spirits to be honour'd.

Leaf of Raspberry, dry. 35 g.

Rose Petals, fresh. 35 g.

Cherry Blossoms, fresh. 35 g.

Blossoms of Honeysuckle, fresh. 35 g.

Orange Flower Water. 350 ml.

Rose Absolute. 13 drops.

Let a cold infusion of the fresh blossoms be made, allowing them to steep in large seal'd vessels of well or spring water. Make a hot infusion of the Berry Leaves, with sufficient boiling water to cover. Seal in a stopper'd jar and steep for 30 minutes. When the Bath is drawn, strain the Leaf infusion decoction into the water, along with the Orange flower water and Rose Absolute. Add double the amount of Salt of Lilith to the ablution, and agitate the waters. Finally, pour in the cold infusions, leaving the fresh flowers to float freely. Let the Spirit to Be Honour'd be invoked with the Wand of Quickening, and the bath-chamber lit with candles.

Aqueum Liliya.

A lustral sacrifice for ritual conveyance of the benedictions of Lilith in her fully waxed, angelic, and tutelary lunation. The bath may be modified for succubi, nymphs, or water-spirits. All flowers should be fresh-gathered in Her name.

Place into the Working Basin and cover with 4 litres of cold spring water. Knead the blossoms gently between the fingers for several moments while a graven image of the Lady is silently focused upon with Eye and Heart. Let stand for three hours prior to use in a quiet, sheltered place, away from the light, with a single white candle lit for the Lady before her Idol. During the rite wherein the lustration is to be employed, the Lady should be invoked with a wand of Crooked Willow or Tamarisk, and the branch employed to quicken the florid waters. The petals should be left in the waters and the lustration sprinkled upon the crowns, brows, and palms of those who would receive the Lady's goodness.

Waters of Magnetism.

An excellent bath for increasing Charisma or one's natural Charms, ideal for attracting a mate or other sexual glamours. The Balneum may also be used prior to gambling. Owing to the seasonal nature of Cherry and Quince, the Bath is best employ'd in Spring. Cherry blossoms are rarely found at the local apothecary. Thus, one must gather one's own in Spring. One may also employ blossoms of Apple, Plum, Pear, or Peach for like effect.

Cherry Blossoms, fresh or dried. 200

Rose Buds, fresh. 30

Steep in enough boiling water to cover. Let the infusion sit for 10 minutes. Strain into bathwater, washing the Herb material through several times. Immerse oneself for at least 30 minutes and allow the waters to air-dry on the skin after emerging.

Lustration of Mercurius.

A bath appropriate for invoking the patron of magic, and alchymic wisdom. This Bath of the Wise grants especial gifts prior to labours of the spiritual laboratory.

Lavender Blossoms. 30 g.

Essential Oil of Lavender. 8 drops

Essential Oil of Sandalwood. 8 drops

Kosher Salt. 60g.

Epsom Salt. 60 g.

Infuse Lavender Blossoms in 1.5 litres boiling water for the space of 30 minutes. Strain and add to a 300 litre bath and stir in, adding salt and oils. For best results, soak for at least 40 minutes and drip dry afterward.

Warrior's Ablution.

A stimulating brew to lend power during confrontations with enemies, the law, or for use prior to negotiations.

Leaf of Rosemary, fresh. 70 g.

Cinnamon chips. 30 g.

Bloom of Chamomile, dry. 30 g.

Flowers of Broom. 30 g.

Add Rosemary and Cinnamon to a cooking vessel with enough water Bring to a boil, cover, and simmer 15 minutes. In a separate vessel, steep the Broom and Chamomile blossoms in 1 litre boiling water. Strain both infusion and decoction and discard Herbal material, adding the liquids to the bathwater. cover.

Earthing Bath.

For drawing stray powers back into the Corpus, centering the Mind, and subduing quarrelsome spirits.

Linden blossom, dried. 60 g.

Oak, leaves and twigs, dried and crumbl'd. 60 g.

Leaf of Wormwood. 33 g.

Infuse the Linden and Wormwood in 1.5 litre boiling water for 20 minutes. As it is steeping, simmer Oak leaves in 1 litre of water for 20 minutes. Strain both fluids into the bath tub and soak as long as is needed.

Midsummer Gold.

A Solar infusion made from traditional Herbs for washing the body and clearing and fortifying the aethyric orb.

Herb of St. Johnswort, dry. 30 g.

Herb of Vervain, dry. 30 g.

Leaf of Mugwort, dry. 25 g.

On the morning of the Summer Solstice, seal each of the Herbs in a separate steeping jar with enough water to completely fill the vessel. Allow to steep for at least four hours in the sunlight, absorbing the Solar Genius at the peak of its power. During this time of steeping, the very Fires of the Sun should be invoked and beseech'd into the Womb of the Waters of the Moon. In this conjunctio the Fruits of Our Labour arise. The exhausted plant matter is then strained out, and the resulting infusions mixed. The potentiated wash may be poured on the head while holding clear in the Imaginal Eye the Solar virtues cleansing the crown, and gradually seeping into the entirety of the aethyric orb. The wash may also be added to bathwater for extended soaking.

Floor Wash.

A general but potent Encharmed Solution for cleansing the oratory or home of Noxious Spirits or in the wake of an unpleasant event.

Leaf of Vervain, dry. 40 g.

Leaf of Sagebrush, dry. 30 g.

Leaf of Thyme. 20 g.

Root of European Mandrake. 7 g.

Steep Vervain, Sagebrush and Thyme in 1 litre boiling water, leaving to stand in an airtight jar for 7 hours before filtering. In a separate cooking vessel, add Mandrake to 400 ml. water and bring to a boil. Simmer 20 minutes. Filter and reserve liquid, burying the boil'd Root in an honourable location and with a coin and thanks. Add to Herbal infusion when it has been strained.

Purification Bath.

A relaxing bath excellent for quieting and realigning the disrupted psyche, as well as nourishing and envigorating the bastions of spiritual defence. Our Fair Decoction may be simmered longer than the 15 minutes given, up to 25. The resulting brew may be used for a cold bath as well, omitting the salts and oil.

Fir Needle. 50 g.

Atlas Cedar. 33 g.

Epsom Salt. 30 g.

Root of Valerian, chopped. 25 g.

Root of Calamus, chopped. 25 g.

Essential Oil of Sandalwood. 5 drops.

Bring 1 litre of water to a boil. Add Fir, Cedar, Calamus and Valerian. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes. Strain and add to hot bath water, along with essential oil and salt. For cases of extreme disruption, double the amount of Fir, Salt, and True Oil of Sanders.

Mist of Dispersion.

For banishing rude spirits or flocculum abomini. Mix all ingredients in 4 oz. atomizer bottle and agitate before use.

Essential Oil of Palmarosa. 5 drops.

Essential Oil of Fir. 4 drops.

Essential Oil of Juniper Berry. 3 drops.

Essential Oil of Atlas Cedar. 2 drops.

Essential Oil of Birch. 1 drop.

Water. 75 ml.

Perfumer's Alcohol or 100 proof spirit. 40 ml.

Asperge Sylvaticus.

A suitable brew for asperging brethren prior to Congregational works of sorcery. The ingenium derives from a subtil congressus of the Lord and Lady of the Desert, the Lord of the Forest, and the Lady of the Garden.

Leaf of Sagebrush, crumbl'd. 33 g.

Leaf of Douglas Fir, Larch, or Hemlocks, chopp'd. 30 g.

Leaf of Scent'd Geranium. 30 g.

Leaf of Wormwood. 5

Make a strong decoction of the Fir, Hemlock or Larch with 1 litre of water in a covered cauldron, simmered for fifteen minutes. Pour the hot decoction over the remaining ingredients in a steeping vessel and let stand seal'd for half an hour. Strain and asperge with a branch of the evergreen employ'd. Tincture of Myrrh may also be added in small amounts to enhance the cleansing virtue.

Mist of Severity.

Another Compound'd Mist for the more potent workings of Exorcism or in instances of stubborn hauntings. Mix all ingredients and store in 4 oz. atomizer bottle, shaking before use.

Essential Oil of Hyssop. 5 drops.

Essential Oil of Cajeput. 4 drops.

Essential Oil of Juniper Berry. 4 drops.

Essential Oil of Black Peppercorn. 3 drops.

Water. 75 ml.

Perfumer's Alcohol or 100 proof spirit. 40 ml.

The Viridian Broom.

A potent asperge for sprinkling, using a fresh bough of Cypress.

Sprig of Douglas Fir, chopp'd. 35 g.

Herbe of Pennyroyal, whole flowering. 35 g.

Leaves of Cypress. 28 g.

Berries of Juniper, crush'd well. 25.

Place Douglas Fir, Cypress and Juniper Berries in the Wort-Cauldron with 1 litre of water, and bring to a boil. Simmer, cover'd, for 20 minutes. Remove from Heat and add the Pennyroyal. Strain when cool.

Sorcerer's Hand Wash.

For hand-anointing prior to works of the Magical Arte. Place 11 Devil's Shoestrings, along with a slice of the very best Galangal Root, a twig of True Cinnamon, a pinch of Sweet Tobacco, and a small slice of True Mandrake in a bottle of dark glass and fill with 151 Proof Rum. Stopper, storing in a dark place. Gems or minerals sympathetic to the magician may also be added as desired.

Balneum of the Wayfarer.

A blessed wash especially for the feet prior to Sojourning forth in the Greenwood, or for such as wander long in lonely places, giving invigoration and purpose to the stride. Fresh-harvest'd Rhizome of Wild Ginger (Asarum spp.) may be substituted for Ginger.

Root of Ginger, fresh, sliced. 90 g.

Leaf of Bay, fresh. 50.

Leaf of Holy Basil, fresh. 40 g.

Make strong decoctions of the Ginger and Bay in separate vessels. Pour both over the Basil into a large Hermeticus and steep for ten minutes. Pour wash without straining into a basin and soak feet for 30 minutes prior to Sojourn.”

A Sigil for the Vanquishing of Tyranny

In this time of social and spiritual uprising, I have felt called by the mantle of witchhood (which will always be a mantle of the oppressed) to lend my Magics to the cause. As such, I’ve gone about the creation of this sigil.

The Sign of Sedition is a sigil of revolutionary magic; a glyph that calls forth the righteous anger of the dead and immediates that power for the sake of banishing oppressive forces. This is a sigil of the disenfranchised—of the insurgent—of the many. It is a mark of those who have stoked the fires of insurrection for generations untold in the name of liberty. May we come together in Love and Outrage, so that we might topple the barricades of justice on Earth.

A RITE OF THE OPPOSER

"The intent of this rite is solely that given unto it by its practitioner in reciprocation to the intent of the Current summoned through its practice. The functions and applications of this rite are revealed solely through its practice and subsequent adaptation by the practitioner in accordance with such secret and unique directions as are revealed unto him.

The initial directions are as follows:

In a Place of Solitude and at the Hour of Twilight, light a single white candle and place it within the centre of one's shadow.

Standing before the shadow and fixating all attention upon the light of the single flame - recite the Prayer of the Design. This done, pick up the candle and, moving anticlockwise, turn your back toward the shadow, then proceed to recite the Formulae of the Opposer. This being fulfilled and such adjunctive acts as are deemed pertinent being completed, turn about once more, and thus completing one full orientation, wordlessly extend the flame as in salutation towards the shadow; with a single breath or orison extinguish the candle. Then, as directed, walk away from the Place of Solitude and turn not to gaze back from whence you came - for such is a custom of Arte.

The Prayer of the Design may also be used in isolation or as an adjunctive/declaration in other such ritual/meditative procedures.

An example of the practical adaptation of the rite as given above: in contradistinction to using toward and against the shadow as the determinants of the rite's polarities, employ such stellar analogues as the Pole-star and the Dog-star. Also the direction of orientation may be changed from Widdershins to deosil in alternation, according to whether the rite is performed at dusk or dawn - or in the dark or bright fortnight of the lunar month."

Note: I called this a green witch spell because it calls for caring for a living plant. That means providing it with the correct levels of light and water for its care. You do not have to call yourself a Green Witch to use this spell. You do, on the other hand, need to be able to care for a plant. Be advised. Note: There are a lot of parts to this spell. This isn’t the kind of thing that should be undertaken lightly or can be accomplished, in most cases, in a single weekend. This is by design. Be aware that in assembling the items to complete this spell, you have begun the action of casting it. You are creating a living ward that could live for upwards of ten or twenty years or more – treat it with the reverence it deserves.

This spell is designed to create a living plant ward tl protect you and your environment. It uses a combination of candle magic (as an initial charge for the spell) and green magic to power the spell. I also suggest the use of additional elements such as bindrunes, sigils, or intention papers but they are not necessary. As always with my spells, I expect you to bring your own magic to the table here – how you empower this spell should be determined by how you cast magic.

I will also include some sections on how to interact with your plant ward – they are just that, suggestions. Take what resonates with you and leave the rest.

To Cast This Spell You Will Need:

1 Jar Candle appropriate in size to use as a cachepot (3″, 4″, 5″ or more)

Oils or herbs to anoint your candle (optional)

A paint pen or other permanent marker (optional but recommended)

A plant (I suggest one that you associate with protection magic)

A pot with drainage holes that will fit into your cachepot

Soil, Water, and Sunlight to care for your Plant Ward

The goal of this spell is to prepare a vessel and imbue it with protective energy and then to permanently home a plant in it to create a living ward that you feed with water regularly. Steps 1 and 2 of this spell can be performed congruently or separately. They are interrelated – the size of your plant will dictate the size of your cachepot/candle, so keep this in mind during your choosing process. If you choose a cachepot that is too small for your plant, you will need to transplant it out quickly, defeating this process. If you choose a cachepot that is too large for your plant, you risk root rot. As you might imagine, a dead plant is not an effective ward.

1 – Choose Your Protective Plant Ward

Ultimately, your plant choice is up to you. There are, however, some things that I think it is important to keep in mind when choosing a plant for a spell like this. The first is that we need to keep this plant alive so choosing a relatively “easy” plant is a good starting place. You know how much time and care you like to put into your plants, now think about this also as the time and care that you want to put into your wards. If you want to maintain your wards more often, you may wish to choose a plant that is more thirsty or time-consuming. If you are more of a set-it-and-forget-it type of magic user, something more low-key may be more your style.

The second thing is that your plant needs to be able to grow effectively in your environment. I would lean towards choosing a plant that you have grown before in your current living space as you will know, for sure, that it is a good fit and will thrive in your home.

Things like rose bushes and herbs have a lot of protective properties but can be difficult to grow in a home environment. I suggest thinking about what protection means to you – there are many ways that plants can be protective (bark, thorns, poisonous leaves, vines that strangle…) besides the obvious protection associations in That Big Green Book.

Keep in mind that the size of the plant in its mature form will come into play here. Some plants can be continually divided to remain in the same pot for a long time while others will outgrow their homes in 1-2 years. A plant that can stay in its cachepot for at least a couple of years – either through the slowness of its growth, division, or because it prefers to be a bit snug in its home – is preferred for this type of spell.

Plants can be expensive but this step doesn’t have to be! Check your local plant groups for free plants or propagate an existing plant you already own. I would suggest that the plant become fully acclimated to your environment before you actually use it in this spell.

2 – Choose You Candle/Cachepot

Once you know what type of plant you want to grow as a ward, it is time to find yourself a vessel to house your ward. Here we are looking for a candle in a pretty jar* that you like enough to keep as a decoration. You may have one in your house already! The one condition is that whatever sized plant you have chosen should be able to fit inside your candle jar as a cachepot. It doesn’t have to fit exactly (there’s a possibility here of choosing a large cachepot to give your plant ward space to be repotted and grow!) but you should be able to comfortably sit your plant into the candle jar.

From there, the choices are very much up to you and virtually endless. You can choose based on a color association that you have with protection magic, or maybe it is the scent of the candle that makes you think of protection here. I suggest choosing a scent that you enjoy (or scentless altogether) as you are going to burn this candle out before we use it as a home for your new plant.

If you make your own candles, there is some amazing room here to further your own magic by choosing an appropriate vessel and then making a protection candle to go inside of it.

Candles, especially bigger jar candles, can be quite expensive. This isn’t about going out and spending a lot of money here (though you can, of course, if you wish). You can often find unburned candles in thrift shops or at discount stores of all kinds.

*If ascetics aren’t important to you, you can skip this step.

3 – Create Your Protection Vessel

Now that you have chosen a vessel, we want to imbue it with the energy of protection. This is basic candle magic 101 and can be done in many different ways. Many people will start by cleansing the candle with their preferred methods. Many people like to write their intentions or sigils/bindrunes/magic symbols onto the candle – you can write all around the outside of the candle to create your own art effect or stick to the bottom of the candle to be more discreet. You want to use a permanent marker that won’t wash off if at all possible.

Some people will meditate with the candle, send their power into it, or imbue it with another energy source such as the sun, moon, or Reiki. Many people dress their candles with magical oils, protective powders, or gemstones.

Do what works for you and your practice. If you need a very basic protective spell, you can draw the Algiz rune on the bottom of your candle, anoint it with olive oil, and add a couple of pieces of finely ground rosemary to the edge of the candle (away from the wick). Please practice fire safety here.

4 – Burn Your Candle

Ultimately, I feel that the goal of this candle burn should be to burn your candle out as efficiently as possible to minimize soot stains on the jar and to burn as much of the wax as possible. To do this requires some candle tending. Generally, to burn a jar candle down completely you need to wait until the top layer of wax has melted before you extinguish it on each burn. The amount of time that will take is determined by a ton of factors: the temperature, the type of wax, the number of wicks, the type of wicks, airflow, and other things as well. You may not be able to let your candle burn for that long with every lighting, but I suggest at least attempting to.

There’s a lot of additional magic that you could add to this step. You could speak words of protection over your candle as you light it. You could light it once a week on a Tuesday in the hour of Mars. You could light it every day for a number of days that is magically significant to you. You could dedicate the candle to a protective force that you work with. Or burn it on a protection altar. You could write a petition paper and place it under the candle while it is burning.

I personally think that including your plant in the spell here is very useful for creating a connection – I would keep my plant near the burning candle as the spell progressed to strengthen the connection between the plant and the energy of the candle burn that fuels the spell.

Continue with this step until your candle has completely burned out. From here you want to clean out your vessel of any remaining wax, soot, or other leftovers from your candle burn. Take care to try not to remove any protection symbols on the jar, but things happen. It’s okay to go back over and redraw your protection sigils if you have to here.

5 – Put Your Plant into its New Home

Note that I do not say PLANT your plant into its new home. We are using the candle jar here as a CACHE POT, not the direct home of your houseplant. This is because your houseplant likes to have drainage holes and the candle jar has none.

As you do this, you might wish to talk with your plant about how and why you are putting it into its new home. This is when, in my practice, I would Name the plant if I had not discovered its name prior. Giving a plant a name creates a connection between the spirit of that exact plant and you; it also gives you a nice way of addressing the spirit of the plant! (if you don’t do spirit work, feel free to skip this step) I like to tell my plants that I am enlisting them in the protection spell that I have cast and asking their permission.

Place your plant in a place where it will get its needs met and watch it grow! Congratulations, you have just made yourself a living ward.

6 – Care For Your Living Ward

Properly caring for your plant wards is an important part of this spell and is a type of repetitive magical focus. The goal is to focus on your plant as it grows and check up on its needs. This allows you to feed your spell as you water your plant and the growth of the plant feeds the ward itself. Forge a connection to your plant as you care for it – think about its growth, think about the magic that you imbued into the creation of the ward, and think about the candle burning that fueled the spell! Depending on your sensitivities, you may be able to “feel” the ward.

Over time, you may want to burn additional candles to add power to your living ward. You can do so by anointing the candles in the same way that you did your original (with the same symbols, oils, and herbs) and burning it close by to your plant. Depending on your practice, you may also be able to change the ward with sunlight, moonlight, or words of power. Use what you are good at here!

It is wise to remember that this is still warding/protection magic so I would refrain from telling people about your ward or sharing photos of it on social media.

7 – Troubleshooting this Spell

Eventually, depending on your plant ward, your plant may outgrow the container that this spell was built for. Consider this to be a great success! You choose to continue to work with this plant by transplanting the plant into a larger pot, finding a new vessel, and casting the spell again – or -by finding a new plant sized small enough to fit into your current vessel. You may be able to divide your plant and keep a part of it for your spell while “retiring” the rest. (think about the power of continually dividing a pothos and each time creating ANOTHER living plant ward that you put in a different space in your house…) What to do if your plant ward dies or is not doing well: This happens to the best of us. Some people might consider a plant ward dying to be a sign that something magically is amis in your environment. You need to decide for yourself if that makes sense to you. I would consider what is going wrong with your plant – have you been under or over-watering it? Is it dying because it’s too rootbound and needs to be repotted? Does it have a plant pest? Did it scorch in direct sunlight?

You not caring for your plant properly is almost never going to be a sign that somebody else is messing with you. But if your plant ward is suddenly dying for no reason (and you’ve thoroughly checked the reasons) – do some divination on it, please. Also, unpot your plant and check the roots because that’s always the best practice.

If you need to move house, you will need to decide what to do with your plant ward. If the ward is more designed around protecting you as a person, it may be able to move to your new place. If it is designed around protecting your space, it should probably be recast in the new location. In that case, I would choose a new jar candle and cast the spell anew. When in doubt, I suggest casting a new spell.

8 – Variations on a Theme

Though this spell is written to create a protective ward, it can be altered easily to fit most other long-term goals. You could use a plant associated with tranquility to make your space more peaceful, as an example. I suggest sticking to magical goals that affect your environment or your person here. The reason for this is that I believe that this spell works because you and your plants share the air in your house – you breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide and your plants “breathe” in carbon dioxide and “breathe” out air. If your belief system of how magic works differently, your experience may vary.

There are always ways to vary this spell to suit your needs - if you come up with a cool one and feel like sharing, I'd love to hear about it!

I have in the past.  I don’t currently. 

The custom, as I understand it, is to use a string of beads until it breaks.  Strands of 108 beads are common in Indian religions like Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism, and Hinduism. Islam uses (I think) strands of 99+1. The Rosary is usually arranged in sets of ten (called Decades), with a separating bead between each Decade and a crucifix; Anglicans often use bead-sets of 33, 50, or 100... and that’s also common in Eastern Orthodox Christianity.  

The basic concept is to say a short prayer for each bead.  Eastern Orthodox Christianity uses “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.”  In Hinduism, beads are used to count repetitions of a mantra.  

For a while, I used a strand that consisted of 57 beads, strung brown - silver - orange - green - yellow - red - blue - black in order seven times; and then a single clear bead as the start-stop marker.  These stood for the visible planets: Earth, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Sun, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn.  I had a set of short mantras for the planets, which went something like this:

Keep me grounded, o Earth;

Let my dreams be clear, o Moon;

Let my speech be lucid, o Mercury;

Let the work of my hands be beautiful, o Venus;

May my soul be a light to others, o Sun;

May I be steadfast in my effort, o Mars;

May I be generous and kind, o Jupiter;

May I meet an honorable death, o Saturn.

At the start and stop bead, I’d say the opening of the Emerald Tablet: 

Tis true without lying, certain and most true. That which is below is like that which is above and that which is above is like that which is below to do miracles of the one thing

When the strand broke, I buried the beads in a suitable place, burned the cord, and drove an awl through the clear bead’s hole so that the bead split.  I’ve not remade that particular strand, though I think about doing so from time to time.

The topic of weight management can be one filled with very polarizing viewpoints within the magick community. My goal in creating this was to craft something that wouldn’t pretend to be a quick-fix, nor advocate any specific body image. Instead, I wanted to craft something that would help with a healthy management of weight - in however that is defined in your own mind. Yes, the idea capitalized here is in trying to lose excess fat, but again, what that means is left up to the end user. I want this to help you achieve your own goals of what you feel is right for you. 

This is a heat-infused oil formulation. Hot oil can be very dangerous; please be very careful, and extremely mindful, so you don’t hurt yourself.

What you will need:

½ cup Olive Oil

2 tsp. Ground Cinnamon (Cinnamomum Cassia is fine to use)

2 tsp. Ground Clove

3 stalks of Chives, chopped

Small Sauce pot

Fine mesh strainer

Coffee Filter or Cheesecloth

Sealable container that can withstand warm oil (preferably glass .. blue/cobalt glass even better)

Optional, sized for keeping inside the finished container:

2 Cinnamon Sticks

2 Whole Cloves

3 Lengths of whole Chive

When you do it: On a full moon when the moon is in Scorpio, and in an hour of Venus. If the stars align for you so the full moon in scorpio happens to land on Friday, Trifecta!

What you will do:

Take your sealable container, and add the whole spices and cloves. Make sure you’re able to seal the container. Trim the cinnamon stick and chives if you need to.

Put the oil in a sauce pot, and begin heating on the stove.

Let the oil just begin to simmer, then add your ground spices and chopped chives.

Stirring the whole while, let the contents simmer over low heat for seven (7) minutes.

After seven (7) minutes, remove from the heat and let sit undisturbed for another seven (7) minutes.

Repeat the cycle of seven (7) minutes of heat and seven (7) minutes of rest six more times (for a total of seven cycles).

At the end of the final seven (7) minutes of resting, put the strainer on top of your container, and put the filter (or doubled-over cheesecloth) inside the strainer.

Slowly pour the oil through the filter/cheesecloth and strainer, into the container. This might take a while. Be patient, and be careful! Do not be careless with Hot Oil!

Once the oil finishes passing through the filters, allow it to cool, then seal your container and keep it in a cool dark place.

Optional If you like working with sigils, you can draw a sigil on the coffee filter so the oil passes through it as it filters.

How to use: While looking at yourself in the mirror, dab your finger in the oil. Use your oiled finger to trace the alchemical triangle of Fire on your chest or abdomen - Try to use a single, continuous motion. As you do this, tighten your core as much as you can and say: “Fires ignite and burn within - Melt my fat to make me thin.”

CPaW - Why these things: This formula taps into powers of transformation, willpower, banishing, and archetypal fire, and blends them with powers of beauty, self-confidence, and good health.

Clove is used for its connection to fire and banishment.

Cinnamon is used for its connection to fire and passion, and for its ability to augment the power of whatever it’s blended with.

Chives are used for their connection to healthy weight loss.

The formula is blended in an hour of Venus in order to weave threads of edifying self-love and beauty into the final product.

The full moon in Scorpio augments the transformative nature of the formula, as well as blending with the cinnamon and clove to balance willpower, colored with targeted banishment.

Blue is associated with weight loss, which is why the sigil should be drawn with that color. Pouring the finished oil through the sigil as it filters passes the charge of both the color and the sigil into the oil.

Black Salt is primarily used for banishing, and for absorbing negative energy. With that in mind, I made up this batch specifically to be used in conjunction with a [protective water of mars] bottle I have currently brewing.

This recipe calls for the ash of protective herbs as the blackening agent.

Ingredients

Chamomile

Lavender

Sage

Black Pepper

Sea Salt

You will need

Mortar & pestle

Incense burner, or other fire-safe container

Container for finished salt

1) Determine how much salt you want to make. A common ratio is 2 parts salt to 1 part blackening agent.

2) Take equal-ish measures of Chamomile, Lavender, and Sage, and grind them in your mortar & pestle until you have a course, chunky powder. I ended up with big pieces of sage leaves, which ended up being a great way to light the powder in multiple spots.

3) Burn down your powder, as you would a loose incense, until you have nice, smokeless, ash.

4) Add your salt, pepper, and ash to your mortal & pestle.

5)  Grind together the salt, pepper, and ash until the salt has completely turned color.

6) Transfer your Black Salt to a new container.

And you’re done! :D

Remember - For the most part, Black Salt absorbs negative energy, it doesn’t reflect, negate, or convert it (the black pepper does banish/negate some of the negative energy, so that does helps this blend last longer).

Once it has absorbed all it can, it will need to be replaced. Be courteous about how you dispose of your used, negative-energy full, Black Salt: burn it, bury it, or cast it into running water.

2 avocado pits

1 cinnamon stick (“The inside of his cheek, where the flesh was softest, tasted like cinnamon gum and wet stones” [Vuong, 117])

Purple and white paint

Purple nail polish

A sachet (red if you want the spell to lean sexual, purple if you want it to lean emotional)

This spell embraces purple as a color of gay love. As Ocean and Trevor spent their days overlooking golden fields shadowed in purple, leaving dark marks on one another’s necks, you too, will meet a man whose love is as royal and deep. Take care, as this is a fire-based spell for an intense love, and whether or not the two of you remain side-by-side for long, your “shadows” will (Vuong, 106).

Directions:

If you haven’t already, clean the avocado pits. Dry them completely, then paint them in purple. The word “avocado” comes from an Aztec word, “ahuácatl,” which literally means “testicle.” Avocados are also considered to be aphrodisiacs in Aztec folk knowledge. Pour love into your painting, shake your heart awake.

After the avocado pits are dry, paint the male symbol ♂ in white on each.

While these are drying, paint your nails purple. Do not play music, or listen to television while you do this; passionate love is flighty thing, darting off at loud noises. At this moment, you are the artist, not “reckoning” with new ideas but “ripening” (Rilke, 30), like an avocado on the tree, giving your heart a moment just to beat, your eyes to look around your present surroundings, your mind to wander. “Physical pleasure is a sensual experience no different from pure seeing” or any other basic sense (Rilke, 36). It makes sense, then, that the first step in crossing paths with physical pleasure again, will be to get back in touch with the senses.

Once your nails are dry, combine the (dry) avocado pits with the cinnamon stick in the sachet. Take it with you everywhere you go. Make eye contact with the people you pass on the street. Make longer eye contact with those that strike you. If you have not met a lover by the full moon, perform the spell again the next time the moon is waning.

When you meet your new lover, you may dismantle the sachet, and give one of the avocado pits to your lover. If you choose not to, you may compost the lot.

It is done.

I originally found a recipe for this on Wrathful Calm’s tumblr. I was making this for a specific purpose, and made some adjustments to the ingredients used, and thought I share what I came up with :)

Ingredients:

2 Sea shells (1 white, 1 black)

Rose buds

Rosemary

Lavender

Mugwort

Mistletoe

Bloodroot

Materials:

Mortar and Pestle (or other grinding method)

Small jar for the finished powder

The amounts of the herbs will very depending on how much powder your shells grind into. The two shells I used were the size of common muscles, so I ended up using my cupped palm as a measure for the herbs - that’s about a tablespoon, if I remember correctly. For the Bloodroot, I used whole dried root, and used one whole piece.

Crush the shells into as fine a powder as you can. The black shell I used was pretty resilient, and still had some fine-gravel pieces left in the mix when finished, but that’s fine. As long as it’s predominantly powder, you’re good to go.

If your Bloodroot is whole, add that in first to crush and mix into the powder. Mugwort has a tendency to bunch up and not grind down well, so while the Bloodroot/Shell mixture is still somewhat chunky, take the Mugwort, and pulling off little bits at a time, grind it into your powder.

Once you have the Bloodroot and Mugwort mixed in well, add the remaining herbs. Take a moment to ground yourself, and focus energy into the mixture. Focus on the intent for this powder - in general, Purification, and the Absorption of Negative Energy, but if you’re crafting this for a specific purpose, or for a specific person, now is a good time to focus those energies into the mixture.

Continue grinding until the powder begins to change color to a very light pink, and the aroma of the mixed herbs is quite strong.

Pour the mixture into the jar, securing the lid tightly. 

If you wish, at this point you may perform an empowering ritual to add a bit of oomph to the powder, but this is optional - your working through the crafting of the powder will have it pretty good and charged up as it is.

This can be used to dust your altar or tools; to dust in the corners of your home while performing other purification spells/rituals; and even as a bed to bury jewelry in, in order to charge them with purification and negative-energy absorbing power. The later is my favorite :)
