[The Woman in Black]
Starter for @shadowgifted
āWell, well, well, and just what do we have here?ā Leon mused as he unsheathed the blade at his side.
The sound of quivering metal rang in the air as the Princeās sword travelled in a fluid arc, coming to a rest with its point pressed lightly against the mysterious womanās neck, āA deplorable Hoshidan spy?ā
If the strangerās mount was any indication as to her origins, then she likely hailed from one of the Eastern Kingdoms. Pegasi were indigenous to clear and sunny skies that stretched over the enemy nation of Hoshido - such winged beasts were never seen roaming Nohrās skies, unless it was mounted by a Hoshidan bent on wreaking havoc. Yet there was too much about this woman that failed to mark her as a citizen of the Light Kingdom. Her features, while dark, certainly did not match the stereotypical phenotype of a native Hoshidan, furthermore, her raiment, was unlike anything the Prince had ever seen before.
Everything about this woman brought up a flurry of questions in Leonās mind. It would be a lie to say that these unknowns had not piqued his interest. Very slowly, Leon dragged the tip of his sword along the womanās neck until the broad side came up to meet the āvā of her jawline. āIf you have any intention of living beyond this encounter youāll answer all of my questions,ā he said in an ominous tone, cocking his head slightly to one side.
āWhere are you from?ā he asked firmly, āIf you are not from Hoshido or an allied nation, how does one such as yourself come into possession of such a beast?ā
Eyes narrow at the press of steel against her neckāhow carelessĀ she mustāve been if heād been able to draw so closeābut the only other sign of discontent is the way her fingers tighten on Inanaās reins, preventing her loyal steed from reacting to the threat lacing his tone.
She knows not where Hoshido liesāsheās new to this world, this world where she hopes to escape the shackles of her past (save Robin, neverĀ Robin, but Robin is gone and Aversa has nothing to tie her to Ylisse nor Plegia anymore)ābut itās obvious that this land must be in conflict with it.
āSuch accusations,ā she drawls, eyeing him with a shade of contempt.Ā āMy, and weāve hardly just met!ā Sheās treading dangerous ground, with the way the strangerās sword traces up to her jaw, but then again, when has she not?
āYouāll ensnare far more with honey, love, but I suppose Iāll tell you all the same. My Inanaānot some beast, mind youāhas been with me for years. Dark pegasi arenāt common in the desert sands where I grew up, but myā¦benefactorĀ was kind enough to gift her to me when I expressed an interest in aerial combat.āĀ
āAs for where Iām fromā¦ā A small smirk plays on her lips.Ā āWell, itās a nation quite far from hereāI doubt youāll have heard of it.ā
The Prince strained to still both his blade and the quickening currents of a fury rearing to let loose. Biting back a snappy retort, he held his position, ultimately refusing her the satisfaction of knowing that she was beginning to tread upon his nerves. This woman had a death wish...or so it seemed with how carelessly she weaved her replies.Ā
The offensively sweet smirk that emerged when the corners of her lips curled ever so slightly was particularly vexing, so much so that Leon had to clench his jaw and grit his teeth in order to keep up with his cool faƧade. āWell, itās a nation quite far from hereāI doubt youāll have heard of it.ā
Was she testing him? Under the wing of the realm's finest tutors, Leon had come to know the layout of this world in excruciating detail by the time most children were finally weaned off their wet nurses. How dare this wench toy with him! She was naught but a mouse, hopelessly pressed into a corner and at the mercy of his deadly claws.Ā
His gaze never wavered, his dark eyes boring deep into hers. She would find that he was not so easily deterred by her flippant attitude. "Please, do try me woman," he urged coolly, all the while searching her face for the faintest hint as to her intentions, "You'll find that I am not nearly as ignorant as you would like to believe."
āBesides, I donāt quite think that you have the luxury of refusing...now do you?ā
