Why Makeup??
When I was a little girl, my mom always told me I didn't need any makeup to look pretty, and I was already naturally beautiful. Nowadays, little girls around 12 years and age are asking for lip gloss kits, and colorful eyeshadows for their birthday and always are wearing some sort of cosmetic product. I grew up in a household where makeup was seen as a thing to wear to important or nicer events. As a dancer and a competitive gymnast I would always get all glammed up for these events, but nothing else. A regular day at school meant I woke up, brushed my teeth, got dressed and went to school.
Makeup is a huge new norm, where kids, mostly ranging from middle schoolers to college students, wear makeup and it is incorporated into their daily routines. I remember when I was younger, seeing these girls with the bright pink lips and long eyelashes, I always wanted to experiment when I was that age, not knowing what these products were or how to use them. The routine of seeing other girls wear these products, when I didn't went on for years until I was in the 8th grade.
My mom bought me a tube of cheap brown mascara when I was around 13 years old. She would tell me “don't put too much on, you have beautiful eyelashes without it”. The brown mascara from when I was 13 years old grew from one makeup step to the next with skincare added in between until now at 18 years old. The main thing I want to focus on in my blog is how has the modern makeup industry evolved, and what factors have contributed to its rise as a multi-billion-dollar industry?
