Name: Otis Black

Powers: Total control over cellular function, Shapeshifting, Extradimensional storage which allows for a weak form of portals, Significant understanding of the human body

Profession: Studying diseases and developing vaccines

Savannah Carter was an incredibly gifted engineering student who had suffered from bullying throughout her whole childhood. Through all of the abuse and the pain, she would always escape into her dream of flying. She considered being a pilot, but in the few times she had flown on an airplane, it had never lived up to her dreams. Thus, at the ripe old age of 17, she began sketching designs for a flight suit that could allow her to fly through the skies like the heroes that had been cropping up around the world.

It wasn’t until a couple years into university that she was able to realize the designs and create prototypes. There was a propulsion system to get the wearer into the air and a large set of wings that strapped to their arms and legs to glide and turn. There was also a breathing apparatus, goggles, and a nice coat to keep the wearer comfortable in the air.

After a couple years of development and testing, Savannah had a functioning wingsuit, which she would use to soar through the air and clear her mind when things got overwhelming. During one of these therapeutic flights, she saw a couple drunk men sneak up on a young woman. She managed to bowl over one of the men, but the other nearly knocked her out and it was only with the help of the person she was trying to save that he was stopped.

Despite her injuries, she was hooked on the feeling of playing hero. She went back into the workshop to work on a more protective flight suit to prevent another beating like the one she had faced earlier. She added protective plating to the flight suit and gave the wings the ability to unfold into batons with tasers in them. (I feel like the suit will be a lot easier to draw than describe, so that’ll be coming soon lol)

As her superheroing activities increased, she faced a lot of the same insults that she’d faced from her childhood bullies. One in particular stuck out to her: “What are you? Flying bacon?” She decided that rather than let the assholes around get to her, she would claim it for herself. She reshaped her breathing apparatus like a snout and painted little nostrils on it. She recolored her suit to be pink like a cartoonish portrayal of a pig. She replaced the goggles with protective contacts that maintained moisture in the eye even with a lot of wind, (to keep the whole pig theme from slipping into creepy territory).

And thus, Flying Bacon was born! Pixel art coming out sometime this week maybe!

The Shapeless, returning to human form.

I really like the idea of this fella wearing a cloak, but I'm so attached to one of the earliest iterations of their suit, so I decided to just throw the cloak on over it lol

Car Eater, known by his parents as Frank Gibson, grew up in a rural area in the United States, where if you don’t own a car, you’re not leaving the house. Facing traffic everywhere he went, as well as the perilous streets filled with parallel parked cars in his neighborhood would be enough to drive anyone mad. As an adult, Frank struggled with finding an affordable house in a walkable city near home (because walkable cities aren’t real in the US and also the housing market sucks), so he ended up living with his parents, stuck with the same automotive issue that had plagued him for his entire childhood. (Coming back to this after having developed the character further, the guy’s actually a car nut and he’s a basement dweller because he still couldn’t afford a house, but he wanted a garage to do car things with).

Misfortune found Frank one evening when he was out for a walk through the neighborhood and he stumbled into a breaking point. He stopped a moment to rest and leaned against a nearby car (because they’re fucking everywhere because of the manufactured necessity of them in the US). The breaking point tore Frank’s body apart as well as the car’s and reconstructed them into a car person thing (not sure where I’m going with this but let’s just feel it out, shall we?)

This new body was able to exert immense forces such as lifting cars, crushing cars, eating cars, and filtering through all of the fluids in the car to replace his old ones. Unfortunately, he was also the size of a car, so no more basement dwelling for this fella. I guess he could drive like a car too, but at this point he’s like a weird Transformers rip off who eats cars. After his transformation and subsequent separation from his parents, he went around eating cars and stuff.

Every time Frank is caught for eating cars, all the car companies get together and secretly bail him out and let him go eat more cars so people will buy more cars. Insurance companies hate the guy and so do the people who get their cars eaten. I’m thinking there’s an arc about legislation being passed to make more walkable cities or public transport so that Car Eater isn’t as much of a menace. Either that or the automobile lobbies the hell out of it to maintain the car-dependent state of the USA. (Probably the latter if I want to maintain realism).

Anyway, that’s Car Eater. I honestly am loving the concept, so I’ll totally develop him some more. I’m not sure if I’ll give him to a specific hero or if I’ll just let him loose on the world. I feel like he would be a great rival to Bungeeman or The Shapeless since they’re more nature focused characters and this guy is really bad for the environment.

Megan Grant was in High School when her breaking point appeared. Within this breaking point, collisions between objects were dispersing energy in unconventional patterns, releasing little heat and sound, and ignoring friction. Megan was walking home from school when she passed through the breaking point, where leaves, animals, and the air itself were moving erratically with seemingly no cause. Passing through gave Megan control over the direction of an object’s motion while perfectly preserving its speed (for example she could make an existing wind turn around, but she couldn’t create a new wind).

I’m going to be real, I haven’t thought through a lot of the characterization of Megan yet (other than she’s a complete nerd with all the ways she worked out how to use her powers), but the idea for the power to alter the direction of motion of things snatched me by the balls and wouldn’t let go, so here we are!

One thought I had is that she carries around a ball or something that she throws to get a little vacuum going that she can pull moving air out of with enough speed to be useful. I can also see her wearing a special harness that she can use to fly (by riding the velocity of a good wind-assisted jump), but given the fact that she can’t directly control her speed, I think she would have to rely on spiraling around and creating big wind cushions using her wake to keep her from taking damage coming out of high speed flights. That or she also flies super slow.

I’ll try to work out some more characterization stuff for the next post lol

Where the original Corruption was the source of all human evil pretty much, this Corruption simply exploits it. Before he was The Corruption, Brian Markham was the mentor of Otis Black. Otis began their development of their Universal Vaccine under the supervision of Markham, who, during the first stages of theorizing such a formula, discovered the errors within that would tear down the DNA of whoever consumed it, but found inspiration within and began developing this idea to create a toxin that would prevent all change within a biological entity, resulting in a lengthy death. It would have made a fortune for the military.

Before he could pitch the idea, however Markham was caught in a breaking point that connected his mind to those around him, and in his shock, he pricked himself with the toxin (these guys really gotta handle their needles better smh).

The telepathy granted by the breaking point allowed Markham’s mind to become separate from the body and survive the necrosis set about by the toxin. His body rotted and petrified, ending the life of Brian Markham and beginning the terror of The Corruption.

They would use their telepathic abilities to induce fear, rage, and hate and sow disorder within society, amplifying all of the discriminatory tendencies within the people nearby. They would train to increase their range and control. Eventually, The Corruption had developed a following, and using their toxin, killed and took control of their followers’ corpses as they had done to their own body.

On top of being an extremely capable telepath, The Corruption could also repair their body relatively easy in the event of dismemberment or something of the sort. Since their body was dead, they couldn’t heal naturally, but they couldn’t feel pain, allowing stitching and sewing to be far easier to perform on their self.

Eventually The Corruption would discover that the telekinetic hold they have over their body isn’t limited to dead bodies, opening up their capabilities to move anything with their mind.

Also since they aren’t exactly bound to one body, they tend to exchange the old one for a fresh one about every two weeks to keep fresh.

What a nasty zombie man! Anyway, more on them later (probably something to do with their relationship with The Shapeless post powers)!

When Chuck Rock was first captured by The Conservation Of Physics Society, they were eager for a chance to use the power that they had found, so it was particularly easy to convince them to work for COPS. During Chuck’s time with COPS, they honed their control over their individual bones and over their senses. They discovered that their optical nerve was still intact, which, when trained, captured electromagnetic waves from a different range from normal people, increasing their total senses to like 3ish (enhanced hearing, feeling, and low level sight).

Chuck deposited the soldiers in Otis Black’s lab when they had developed their universal vaccine. Chuck used two to three bones per soldier using a specially designed harness to carry each soldier to their places before the strike.

Chuck also participated in the defense of the COPS lab containing The Burning Striker, protecting the floor beneath that of the cat dragon soon to be known as Drake. This encounter with The Burning Striker, however gave them a new perspective on what they were doing and created the spark that drove Chuck Rock to become a hero.

This spark grew into a flame of righteous anger that led Chuck to destroy the lab they were assigned to and release the captives of said lab and begin a new wave of heroes in the world above.

More about that later!

Charles (Chuck) Rock (see, I think this is a funny name because bones are like rocks and Chuck essentially chucks their bones at their enemies, hence Chuck Rock) was born to Cassandra Rock, a scientist developing artificial skin to aid in skin grafts. During their birth, a breaking point occurred just outside the room their Cassandra was in, so when the infant with their incomplete bones and mind were walked out of the room and into the breaking point, those were all that remained, becoming inextricably linked. This gave them the power to control their bones telepathically, and since they don’t have eyes, they primarily rely on vibrations (which are no longer dampened by their flesh) in the materials they touch to sense the world around them. In fact the only sense they retained was hearing, since that is bones and brain, the two things they have.

Naturally panic occurred for the midwife who had just witnessed a baby lose all of its fleshy bits and the same for the mother who just heard the person carrying her new baby out of the room screaming.

This naturally whipped the infant into a frenzy, creating a telekinetic tornado of baby bones that injured pretty much everyone between them and their mother. When Miss Rock saw her baby still alive despite being bones, as frightened as she was, she was determined to give this pile of bones a proper chance at life.

She immediately began working through how to create a suit from her artificial skin to make her son look and hopefully feel more normal, but as the child aged, they simply felt hindered by their skin, and their mother had lost sight of why she gave Chuck skin and rather than being a means to an end, wearing the skin became the end, creating an unhealthy relationship between young Chuck and his mother, Cassandra.

It all snapped a hen Chuck was 14 years old, and they decided to run away from home, leaving their skin behind, using their telekinetic control over their bones to fly and explore the world.

Unfortunately for Chuck, this caught the attention of COPS, who captured them and coaxed them into working as an agent to apprehend other broken individuals.

More on that later! I wasn’t super clear on what all Chuck could do, so I’ll elaborate on that in the next post!

The cat dragon managed to knock Blaze out in their confrontation. When Blaze woke up they were in a COPS cell. With them was The Shapeless, wearing some mysterious robes and clearly having been involved in the superpowers business for a while.

The Shapeless gave Blaze the rundown on his situation and lent him a hand in his escape, taking the form of a fly on his back and connecting their nervous systems to communicate. The lab was deep underground and they had to fight through several floors of goons and creatures to get out. As they neared the top, the cat dragon reappeared and blocked their way.

The battle? Epic probably. The emotional beats? Immaculate. The cat? Orange. The conclusion? The cat is now friends with Blaze and its name is Drake (for obvious reasons).

Drake helped significantly in the final leg of their escape, as they could smash through the final floor of the lab and carry Blaze on their back to freedom. (Drake is now permanently by Blaze’s side and they are just a baby in and out of dragon form.)

After The Shapeless had guided Blaze to their hideout, formal introductions were made and a new dynamic duo had formed, ready to fight for peace and justice (but definitely not the American kind amirite?).

Anyway that’s the Burning Striker’s first adventure with powers! Next time, the important antagonists they met along the way!

Blaze Jacobs was a football star from Columbia who was playing in the UK. They were one of their team’s most powerful strikers (see what I’m doing there?) and they were extremely cocky. When they would score a winning goal, they’d celebrate at their favorite bar, “The Flaming Speeder” (named after the owner’s hot rod) by taking flaming shots of vodka. One night, a Breaking Point was taking place in the bar as they arrived and when they had ingested the burning alcohol, they gained the ability to change their temporal velocity and to convert some forms of energy into others (such as thermal to chemical or kinetic to run faster or longer).

This sudden ability to slow their perception of time, unsurprisingly, went out of control, and the friction set a fire in the bar. It spread quickly and Blaze made his first saves, taking everyone out before the fire could seriously injure anyone.

This caught the attention of COPS, who would send their cat dragon to help take Blaze into custody, which is where I will pick up tomorrow!

When the United States government caught wind of Breaking Points, they created a secret organization, The Conservation of Physics Society (COPS) to research and prevent Breaking Points from disrupting the balance of power throughout the world. It wasn't long before this organization simply became a way to secretly bust any activity that spooked the government (and the lobbyists that bribe it).

COPS developed a network of underground labs and prisons to hold and study Breaking Point victims (and political enemies). They would often strike deals with their captives and coerce them into using their abilities to help to capture others.

One of these was a kid who was born with no flesh and a telekinetic connection to their bones. (Flying skeleton fella, love them to bits). Anyway, more on them later.

When COPS caught wind of Otis Black's universal vaccine, they worried it would cause too much of a disruption in the medical industry, so they sent a team to sneak into their lab and their actions resulted in Otis getting their first set of powers (manual cell management YIPPEE!). He was then taken into captivity by COPS where they would spend several months, but more on their experience in COPS captivity later!

COPS also spent a lot of time utilizing broken tools and beings to create their own monsters. One such creature was a cat that had been given a massive, draconic form. This cat was one of the primary tools used to subdue broken individuals to take into captivity (but not for long ;)).

Anyway, that's the main gist of COPS. I'll go more into their leadership and lackeys later on, but before then, I'll probably post some more about Bungeeman and the Flaming Speeder.
