But since he still wanted to gain an ally among them, he most likely had to mask all of his real feelings and present himself as a better alternative to Ulmo as a master. Maybe even at first everything was pretty chill. Canonically, Melkor offered Osse more power, and it worked, but I also imagine that as time passed, the harder it became for Melkor to continue playing this game, especially since Osse is well known for being rebellious and unrestrained, and I don't think someone like Melkor would appreciate those qualities in his servants. As a result, it's not that hard to understand why their alliance didn't last long and why Osse was the only bad guy who got saved by the power of love.

But from a storytelling perspective, it's also a comment that from this point onwards, the fate of the Uruk race is sealed. With Adar gone, there is no one left who will love them and think of them as fellow creatures who share in the Secret Fire. Now, they are doomed to be an enslaved, reviled, outcast people for ever.
