there are a lot of bad movies that are fun to mystery science theater with your friends, but there's also a less appreciated category of bad movies where trying to MST them actually detracts from the enjoyment and you can only really appreciate them if you fully buy into their insane premise and immerse yourself in their weirdly conceived worlds. Ladyhawke and The Linguini Incident are two such movies and it is not a coincidence that they are two of my favorite movies.

nobody in either of those movies behaves like an actual human being. there is no really convincing reason why things got to the state they're in or why the solutions the protagonists keep choosing are reasonable solutions. but goddamn do the movies believe in themselves and if you are true of heart you will see their vision.

AI companies are quietly obtaining rare books, ingesting their contents, and then destroying them -- even if they're exceedingly rare.

they've had to face settlements against stealing from current authors, so they'll just go for the old books now. they're also doing this so they have the only copies of rare books.

they're taking water, power, natural resources for their data centers. they steal. they're book burning, essentially. i'm just so angry, i'm at a loss right now.
