“Bad shift?” Emery asks carefully, knowing Samira can get grumpy when she’s tired and hungry and not wanting to poke the sleeping bear.

Looking into Emery’s eyes, she sees nothing but love and care shining in them, something that would have scared her three years ago but now only fills her with warmth.
