He nodded. âPlease.â Levi leaned down to grab the other sacks and sighed. âWorst part of owning big animals, is the feed.â
Isaac smirked and pulled out his wand. âReparo,â he said with a grin, fixing the bags right up.

Levi rolled his eyes. âFuck you. You alright?â
âIâm fine Levi,â he shrugged gently, âyou want me to fix those bags for you?â
Levi walked through Diagon Alley with two large sacks of feed in both hands. With all the commotion of everyone doing last minute school shopping, it was understandable that he dropped one and let it fall onto someones foot. The bag burst open spilling the food everywhere.
âFucking cunt. You okay there?â
Tutting Isaac shook his head, âLanguage Karistan, you know better than that.â
You know, I think itâs a good day for a picnic, or just to be outside in general.
It is the summer, Iâm surprised it isnât raining to be honest.
Mackenzie just gave a smile back in response.

Charming Charms || Deven and Isaac
Devenâs mother was always clearly uncomfortable with anyone who wasnât straight, though with the times Deven figured she should be. Her family was split on this issue, though they were typically split about most, as her father was a very open man when it came to sexuality. Her Uncle Wallis had a husband and her father supported them one hundred percent, but Rae was always rude and ignorant around them. It had never been said, but Rae made it clear she was not going to support Deven or her brother if either were not straight. It complicated things for Deven even further growing up. She was attracted to both females and males, it was quite simple to her, but she hid her feelings. She knew what sexuality she was, but she made it clear to herself, Rae was never to find out. She always avoided the subject when it came up, choosing to be quiet just in case some how word reached her mother.Â
Everything about Deven screamed perfectionist. Everyday her appearance was perfect; not a hair out of place, no makeup smudged, and not a piece of lint on her clothing. She was rather obsessive about it, unable to focus on anything if her appearance was off. This pushed her to handing in assignments late if they didnât turn out the way she planned, even if they were still good assignments. In the end, it often hindered her rather than helped. She nodded,âItâll be done on time. Itâs on the tope of my list.â She knowing that she would be able to finish it quickly, it was likely even that she would work on memorizing it after Isaac left. She smiled widely,âIâm looking forward to reading them over.â It wasnât a lie, she truly could not wait for the chance to read his notes, even if they werenât her favorite subjects. She nodded again, taking in a deep breath and smiling slightly. âItâll stay, I promise. I just need a bit more focus and some help and Iâll get there. Weâll get me those Oâs.â She said, almost telling herself that as much as she was telling him. She needed to become more confident in herself before she really believe it as the truth, but she would get there eventually.
They continued working for a number more minutes, tackling the problems that Deven had described with her charms but Isaac knew that the session was drawing to an end. Though the time had sped by he knew that sooner or later it would all be over and he would be heading back home, to that dark hovel that he called his home. He flinched internally at the idea of that, taking a deep breath he began packing his things away and looked up at Deven with a light smile decorating his lips. âUnfortunately my time with you has come to a close, Iâve got to get going, but Iâll send you a text and weâll arrange our next session.â He paused as he slipped the pile of books that he had borrowed into his bag. Pausing for a moment he looked between his bag and Deven before pulling out a stack of parchment.Â
âThis is full of charms theory that Iâve been told to have you review, it isnât compulsory so if you donât have time for it donât worry about it, but it would assist your learning further and I think having a couple of minutes looking at it wouldnât be the worst idea.â He smiled and finished packing away once more. He knew that this had gone better than he thought it would, he worried and had been previously concerned that whoever this Deven Bali figure was that she would be uncooperative and stubborn, he blessed his lucky stars that he was wrong and that she had actually been willing to work with him.
She let out a small laugh,âThe Ballis arenât exactly the ideal family, but we make do. As far as Iâm concerned, they could be even more complicated and the fact that they arenât makes my life easier.â Though she often made comments about her family, she always kept in mind that it could be far worse. She was thankful that while her family was unstable and often miserable to be around, that they were still there. Life without them seemed boring to her and she was sure her life would be worse without them. She shrugged,âFamily isnât always blood related. And youâve survived this long without family there, Iâm sure you can survive one more year.â She bite the side of her mouth at the mention of siblings,âI never had a sibling with me in Hogwarts, I think it would have made it even more complicated. Too many people who could potentially get into my business.â She smiled, enjoying that idea,âHopefully. Iâve always liked Quidditch, I never miss a match, I just have to make the team. Then Iâll be the first of the family who plays, and my family will love the fact Iâm a beater.â She said the last part with a smirk on her face, knowing her mother would hate that she was on the team and being a beater would bother her even more.
She grinned at him,âI think, honestly, youâre likely one of the better influences I have in life. And all of those things I would have done anyway, you just shared the experience with me. Better you than someone random who doesnât actually care very much for me.â She smiled again, hoping that that statement was true. âPerhaps, weâll see what is thrown at me and see how fine I will be at the end of this year.â She hoped this would be an easy year, and with the help of Isaac she thought it surely would be in someways, but life always had trap it throw at Deven and she wasnât allowing herself to not know something will be there for her waiting.
He chuckled lightly, âIâm not sure that there are any ideal families, even the Potterâs or the Weasleyâs seem to be far from perfect, everyone has their problems and they arenât ever going to be free from those.â He shrugged and sat back in his chair, slipping a hand into his pocket and pulling a cigarette from his pocket, lighting it he sucked down a lungful of smoke and then exhaled it. âSomehow Iâll do just fine,â he was very independent and not having family at Hogwarts had facilitated that. He paused for a second and remember Micah Bali, he had been several years ahead of Isaac when Isaac had joined Hogwarts, but as a Ravenclaw he remembered him vividly, his death had hit the house incredibly hard and he knew it must have been harder for Deven. âWell if you become a Beater then that will just be even more reason for me to come to the matches.â he said smiling lightly.Â
He laughed at that point, weird thinking that he was one of the better influences in her life when all he did was party with her and teach her how to pass the OWLs with the best grades. âWell when you put it like that I just look and sound like a real role mode, a real star if you will,â he shook his head and grinned.Â

âThat might be a bit of an understatement. I think everyoneâs family is crazy, at least in some way.â It was definitely an understatement with her family at least, without even going past her her parents. Between the death of her brother and the tension her parents always faced, they were already an abnormal family. But push into her extended family and you got some stories worth soap operas. âThatâs pretty cool at least, Iâve always wondered what it would be like if I was the only one in my family at school. All the O'Shaes go here or have gone here and a couple of my cousins from my days side. There is a point were there are too many people related to you in school and I have reached my limit.â She told him with a little chuckle. She shook her head,âNo, but I am thinking about trying out. I heard they need a beater. Plus no one in my family plays, thankfully.â
She smiled at him,âI donât think sheâll mind, or notice, but if she does Iâll tell her that. As long as I say Iâm studying in front of my uncles there shouldnât be a problem. It makes me seem like Iâm a better student to them, so sheâll like that.â She liked that he had so much faith in her, but she didnât have much in herself. Before she had done so poorly on her exams, she was very confident with her intelligence but afterward all of her confidence was gone. âWell, donât worry, Iâm gonna try very hard this year.â
âApparently your family more than others,â he commented with a light smirk. The concept of a happy family was a now idyllic hypothetical concept that he no longer understood, he had once believed that everyone had some sort of family, it didnât matter whether you had single, seperated or happily married parents, they were your family and they would take care of you no matter what. Now however he wasnât so sure, he only had his mother and she was barely around anymore, leaving him more with his wretched stepmother. The idea made him feel sick.  âSee Iâve never had any family, I went to Hogwarts and there was no one to look out for me, I never knew how to handle it but I suppose Iâll live somehow, but Iâve not even gotten any siblings,â he pointed out the facts and shrugged lightly. âBut maybe you can be the first one to be really good?â
âLook at me, weâve been friends less than a month and Iâve already gotten you drunk, high and now Iâm sneaking you out of the house and away from family functions.â He smirked. âYou know I think that I might just be a terrible influence on you,â he chuckled lightly and finished his butter beer, âI know youâre going to try this year and youâre going to be absolutely fine.â He shrugged lightly, trying was all well and good and he knew that Deven was capable but he would see what happened in the long run.
She nodded, understanding the feeling. âI never wished I had been sorted into another house for a reason like that, but I did want to be a Ravenclaw when I was younger. A lot of my fatherâs family were Ravenclaws and I had never been very close to them.â She also had wanted to be in the same house her brother had been in. She grinned a little,âIâm glad. I like them, we had never really spoken to each other before you introduced us.â She was glad they had met, they really did seem like good friends already.
She grinned again,âReally? Iâd like that. Itâd be a lot easier for me.â She shook her head,âNo, Iâm rather done with the festival already. There was a fire the other day, it freaked me out a little.â She told him truthfully, figuring he had likely already heard about it. She grinned even wider,âI like that plan. I like it a lot. Even if itâs within an inch of my life.â
Isaac nodded knowingly. âFamily is a complicated thing isnât it?â He posed the question thoughtfully, family was certainly complicated but he was not naive enough to think that it was the same way for everyone. Yet somehow he got the feeling that with Deven it was a very complicated matter. He paused a moment before speaking again. âI never had any family at Hogwarts, they either all go to school in Denmark or some area in Scandinavia, probably Durmstrang, or in Dublin.â He shrugged. âYou play Quidditch?â
âSounds like a good plan, you can use the excuse to get out if you want, tell your mother Iâve booked in some extra tutoring sessions and though you didnât want to go you couldnât not, if she has any problems with that direct her my way and iâll make some shit up.â He shrugged brightly and smiled lightly. âI know that youâre going to do well, you donât need the work that much, you just need to work a little harder.â
She smiled gently at that,âI wouldnât mind that. Theyâre fun, Iâm not looking to escape anyone whoâs actually willing to hang out with me.â Having no friends really did make Deven try and keep all the ones she had only recently gotten. Pulling pranks or even just sitting here with Isaac was a better time than she had had with someone in a while.Â
She shrugged again,âI only have to deal with them until we get back to school. Then I get to pretend I donât know who they are and they get to do the same. I donât know how much harder I can try anyway, Iâve been trying since I was about six.â Deven sighed,âOur parents, well more my mother and her father, are very competitive with us anyway. Iâve just spent most of my life being compared to her.âÂ
He nodded, âSometimes I wish I had been sorted into Gryffindoor, but at the same time i know it just isnât the house for me, I know that all my friends are in that house, apart from a few that I have in Ravenclaw, but it doesnât change the fact that they seemed to like you.â He shrugged gently, they liked most people he introduced them to, but he thought that they had particularly taken a shine to Deven.
âYouâll be fine, just stay out of the house as much as possible and weâll do tutoring at my motherâs apartment this week,â he said with a smile, âand before you protest that it is Diagon Alley Festival, I donât care, tutoring is still happening now build a bridge and get over it.â He laughed with a smile. âThe tutoring is because theyâre going to have something else coming this year, youâre going for Oâs all around and Iâm going to tutor you within an inch of your life to make sure that you kick their arses. Collectively of course.â
She smiled a little,âWell, if it was you or them, I wonât mind as much. At least it would be fun or entertaining.â Deven pulled a face,âSome of Elva and Catherineâs plans are plain idiotic and irritating. They just like to make chaos and it just makes a mess for everyone else.â She told him truthfully, enjoying the fact she had someone to tell about her problems.
She shrugged again, knowing he was right. âYeah, I understand that. And I try really, really hard not to let it bother me.â She sighed,âBut this week theyâve all been staying at my house. And I canât even get away from her there. This week has just been exhausting to me.â
Isaac shrugged, âI think youâre going to be seeing more of Quentin and Levi than youâd think, they know who you are now and youâre not going to be able to escape them,â he shrugged lightly, âI know the feeling there though.â He shrugged more to himself than to Deven, he had seen his fair share of pranks over the years at Hogwarts and he was no stranger to the messier ones.Â
âI know, you just gotta try harder,â he almost opened up to her at that point, almost told her how he couldnât stand being at home and how that meant that he returned in the early hours of the morning, slept for six or seven hours before escaping back into the safety of the streets of London, he nearly told her how he couldnât stand his fatherâs drinking and how he hated and despised his step mother. She was so fake and trying to be kind and impress him with her ânicenessâ.
âYeah, so you can probably see how Iâd get dragged into their plans.â Again she shrugged, taking a sip of her latte, and sighed,âYes, weâre different. Itâs just, sheâs Neasa and the amount of attention she gets is annoying.â She rolled her eyes at herself and her ridiculousness. She let out a small laugh,âYes, you do seem to prefer the company of my house rather than your own. No that we mind.â She smiled at him.
He nodded and took another long drink from his mug of butter beer. âI can understand that, Quentin and Levi seem to drag me into their plans one way or another,â he said with a laugh, though he had never really had any family. He saw his cousins and aunts and uncles from Ireland once in a while, and he had never met any of his fatherâs side of the family.Â
âYou just have to ignore her and it, if you let it bother you then they win,â he shrugged and shook his head more to himself than anyone else, he knew the person she talked of and understood the feelings of envy and melancholy. âbesides she gets boring pretty quickly.â

She shrugged,âThey arenât terrible, theyâre just annoying. Somehow I always get dragged into their schemes and plans, it can just get annoying.â She shrugged,âYouâve probably seen Catherine and Elva around theyâre in Ravenclaw, and basically everyone knows Neasa.â At events she didnât mind being out shined by her cousins, but everywhere else it seemed they had the attention on them and it irritated Deven.
Isaac nodded, âI know of them, theyâre in my house so of course weâve met,â he said with a gentle nod. âBut you two are very different, she is a bit more insane then you are and personally Iâve got a soft spot for Gryffindoors. You may have noticed from the friendship group that I keep.â
She shrugged,âIt was alright. This festival means the arrival of my cousins, which isnât always very pleasant for me.â She thought back to what happened the day before, with the fire and shuddered slightly.Â
Isaac, quirked his eyebrow, he wanted to know more but he didnât know her well enough to investigate further. âIs that a bad thing?â he asked gently.
