katie’s pacing is feverish… it’s like her feet continue moving despite her minds protest. she had blinked at her hq and wound up here. outside the polish caves, poised for multi’s reactor. ( as if she had been in a mission this entire time, unbeknownst to herself. ) it felt like that seemed to have become a habit recently. she always had such feverish, indescribably intense wants and needs taking up the forefront of her mind. and now, that thing occupying her time and attention was multi. his forgiveness felt distant, even impossible, but, if nothing else, katie hoped she could gain his understanding. she did not make an easy choice, nor was she even sure sometimes it was the right one, but she trusted herself. and if it was necessary for her to give up nacho for a brief period of time in turn of her receiving the power to save her husband, pepino, and nacho… then so be it. katie had weighed the pros and cons. illogically, sure, but considered them nonetheless. she understood what she was doing, even if multi hated her for it. “ hey, ” katie sang awkwardly, elongating her emphasis on the end sound, “ to be totally honest, i didn’t really think i’d ever be back here either! ” it’s a force of habit to treat every sentence like a joke, because if it’s a joke, at least people listen. “ i just wanted to talk. if you weren’t too busy. to explain. ” she couldn’t share her plan, and to be frank it was solely because she did not have one. not a concrete one, at least. katie seemed to operate in a different way than the other islanders. there were no steps with her, just an end goal. and inevitably, she always seemed to achieve it. in one way or another, she never failed to get what she wished for… even if it came with consequences. “ i miss nacho, too. ” she says, her voice dropping quietly and much more sadly than she had intended it. it’s the elephant in the room, their son. and her acknowledge of him seems to leave the air feeling thicker. “ but he’s safe. ” katie’s tone becomes light again, as if tying off her words with a neat little bow, “ i can promise you that. ” she can’t, really. but if this arrangement was as mutually beneficial as she had been assured, the dark federation should know better than to touch any of their hostages if they want to guarantee her cooperation. “ i know what i’m doing, i just… need you to trust me with this one. ” it’s probably the biggest thing she can ask multi. katie had fucked up so many times, every business opened and closed within weeks, every bridge burned. but the one thing she knew how to do was try. no matter how the odds stacked against her, she refused to give in. it was almost annoying, at times, how relentless katie could be. but she was relentless in all the right ways. and she could not leave until she had persuaded multi to believe that, too.
