I've seen a bunch of "fandom etiquette" posts on my dash today and I'm going to say something that is maybe going to be unpopular but;

The absolutely pervasive mentality that unwanted criticism or critique shouldn't be given and should be ignored is why fans of color don't stay in fan spaces.

And I am not going to mince words here:

A lot of you are racist. A lot of your fan works are racist.

That might have been difficult to hear. And if it was, you should probably reflect on why that was.

"Fandom etiquette" has created a space where fans of color either bite our tongues and eventually leave or say something, get dogged on, and then eventually leave.

So much of "fandom etiquette" seems to be about insulating creatives from Feeling Bad and hostility to any kind of negative feedback is a pretty big contributor to why bigotry festers in these spaces.

It’s unfortunate that Jonner-El Kent has such a cute design in maws and even more unfortunate that I will still be watching since I already watched the other two seasons

duke thomas spends 10+ years getting comics and growth and plot and hes "too new" and people "dont know him well enough". superboy prime gets five minutes of character development and hes suddenly a fan favorite getting shipped with every character under the sun. i hate this fandom.

the problem with jon kent is that he literally represents traditional family values

he could be an interesting representation of the first child of a mixed family, however he's always presented as Superman's son

and he's perpetually used to replace kon when kon wasn't even clark's son ?????

in a way he's the continuation of geoff johns' attempt at turning kon into superman's son

and the fact that jon is being used to replace kon feels like a sort of sanitization ??? of the character of superboy ???

i don't think that's the correct word here

but what else do you call the act of stripping a character of his complexities to fit him into a mould of traditional values

Honestly I think people would be less upset if they based MAWS Superboy on Jon's actual design. Or actually just have Kon's clone origin. DC had two options and choosed neither. We got Mr. Jonner Kent over here.

#it just blows my mind cause there was no reason for them to bait and switch with Kon

But actually why would Clois love child [redacted] have any involvement in a reign of the supermen inspired story…? What is the thought process … ? DC if you finally want to put Kon out of his misery instead of dragging his corpse for sales / engagement I’m all for it.
