ย Seaweed colored eyes scanned the man in front of her, heart sinking. โI cannot love a man who isnโt a warrior.โ
Her voice cracked, her throat burned as she fought back the tears. Oh how unfair and ironic life was. She had finally come to love the man she has been waiting for. How many previous suitors has she shot down? Five? Ten? She had lost track, as all of them wanted one thing. Title.
To marry the Imuchak chiefโs daughter. While everyone viewed her as the final prize, the man who stood in front of her saw her as the hard work, no ending in sight as long as he had her.
He didnโt view her as a prize, he viewed her as much more.ย
โIt isnโt fair, H-Hina...โ her voice trailed off and her green eyes adverted away from his feline yellow ones.
โIโm sorry... I have to go.โ The woman turned to leave, but was stopped by a firm grasp on her arm. A small tug, and her back fell against the bare chest of the man she had held in her heart for so long. โDonโt go, Ru.โ He was the only man who ever dared shorten her name. Rurumu sniffled as the grasp on her arm loosened and arms wrapped around her waste.
โYou can stay! Iโll be a warrior soon, I promise. Then we can stay together, with no obstacles to get in our way!โ His warm breath against the crook of her neck as he spoke sent shivers down her spine. โHina, I canโt!โ A tear ran down her cheek as she spoke of her, no... their, reality.
โWe cannot be together.โ Her fingers trembled as she peeled Hinaโs hands off her, slowly, one finger at a time. โI must go now.โ She dared a final glance at him, their eyes locking for all but one too quick heartbeat. โGoodbye...โ She hesitated, planting a kiss on his cheek with shaky lips,
โMy love.โ
With that, she ran away, forcing herself to not look back.ย

ย โYouโre almost done, Ru!โ A wet cloth was applied to the woman, Rurumuโs, forehead. Her breath was heavy and ragged. Her mouth clamped shut as her body convulsed, another wave of pain ravaging her.
โPush, love!โ
โOw!โ Rurumu tightened her muscles and wailed as the pain enveloped her. Suddenly, she felt a sudden burst of relief wash over her body. Cries of a newborn baby can be heard echoing across the room walls
โYou did it!โ The happy shrill from her husband hit her ears, passing the ringing she heard. The ringing probably from exhaustion.
โWe have a son, Rurumu! A handsome son!โ Soft lips suddenly covered her face, planting kisses from her forehead, across her nose, down to her chin.
The warmth from the love emitted from her husband was just enough to cause her eyelids to go heavy and slow her breathing, a smile on her lips. The crying of a newborn stopped, when it did, she doesnโt remember. When she came to though, she was met with silence and a baby wrapped in blue at her side, her husband on the babyโs other side.
โHinahoho?โ Her voice was raspy from sleep. โYes, Ru?โ His voice was soft and full of love, opposite of his physical features, big and menacing to many outside the tribe. โDid you have a nice nap?โ โYou shouldโve woken me!โ Rurumu argued, voice hushed as to not wake her newborn.
โYou were exhausted. You had just gone through a lot,โ Hinahoho countered, placing a calloused hand on her cheek, rubbing with his thumb. โWhy donโt you sit up? Do you want to hold him?โ Of course there was no need to answer. The woman carefully sat up on the bed, her husband adjusting her pillows so she can lean into them. Next, he carefully lifted their child and she gently took him in her arms. โHeโs so handsome.โ
It was the first thing she could say when her eyes fell upon his puffy baby cheeks. This child was the product of love and joy. โI love him.โ A huge smile took over her face and she looked up into the golden eyes of Hinohoho.
โI love... our family.โ
โI love our family too.โ The smile on his face mimicked hers, like looking in a mirror. โKikiriku...โ Rurumu whispered. โLetโs call him that.โ There was a silence, with thoughtful eyes Hinahoho stared at her.
โKikiriku...โ He slowly repeated before looking down at the bundle of joy. โWelcome to our family, Kikiriku.โ

ย โAre you thinking about her again?โ
Came the silver voice of a young man. The songs of seagulls and exotic birds played in the background, with the roaring sounds of waves crashing against the shore line. A muscular man sat, legs crossed, on the sand, his teal hair flowing with the wind, brushing his face and tickling his reddened nose. โHow can I not?โ
His voice was distant, despite being forced out. Tired yellow eyes looked off last the shoreline, into the horizon, the setting sun casting a golden glow on the water and over Sindriaโs land.
A rustling next to him drew the older man out of his thoughts. He looked over to see the young man settling next to him, digging his fingers into the sand. โI think about mom all the time too.โ He flashed a corny smile, thought it was fake, โThere isnโt a day that goes by I donโt miss her.โ
โKikiriku...โ The older man wrapped an arm around the smallerโs shoulders. โShe wouldโve been so proud of how strong youโve become. A proud Imuchak.โ He flashed a warm smile, a dimple appearing on his scarred face. At that moment, the two sheโs silent tears, bittersweet memories racing through their heads. โMy proud men. How I love you...โ
The quiet voice sounded from the direction of the ocean, drawing the attention of the older male. โI love you, Hinahoho...โ The voice faded back to the sound of waves crashing, leaving behind a sense of warmth.
โI love you too, Rurumu...โ
โWhatโs that, dad?โ โHm?โ Surprised, Hinahoho shook his head.
โItโs nothing, little one.โ With that, his yellow eyes settled onto the oceanโs surface.ย
