Key West Post Hurricane Irma
After Irma Peter & Gordons wedding was still on! Their closest friends from London were to fly over to celebrate their wedding and not a hurricane would stop them. As we arrive to the Keys it was very quiet, unlike any other experience I have had there. There stood the islands simple beauty and the reality of the storm right in front of you. As we prepared for the wedding on the boat the night before, Peter said to me, βMaggie I am so excited we are all here, I gotta tell you again, create the work that you want because we trust you. However, may I ask for you to also embrace the hurricane damage, it happened and itβs a part of this expereince?β It was a sigh of relief for me to hear that as our boat left the safety harbor and we sailed past sunset key. A prestigious, isolated island that had sailboats piled on top of each other.Β The boat yard just past Mallory Square was filled to the top with sailboats like little toys. It was unreal. It was sad however, it made me realize that there is art in travesty and the things that boats are replaceable. The freedom of living in paradise sometimes comes with hardships. The wedding day was a dream. Even as Peter & Gordon said their vows a loud group of partygoers sailed by cheering which stopped the wedding in time to take a breath, wave back at the sailers and realize that no matter what strikers, there are always those people who donβt let anything stand in their way! Β
