This was the first time in a long time that Sam-I-Am ever had a surprise birthday party and Guy was willing to make it special just for him. He spent all day and night just passing out invitations and making sure that the inventions that he built to help with the decorations didn’t blow up. How did he know that his orphaned boyfriend never had a birthday party before? Well, on the day before his birthday, he dragged Guy to his room so they could talk privately about his time in the orphanage. And that’s when he told him that never in his lifetime had a birthday party. Guy was crushed right when the words left his mouth. He knew that this party had to be extra special just for him. The first ones to show up were all of Guy’s family members which was a surprise for him. Michellee, her girlfriend, Gluntz, and their daughter E.B. were next. Finally, Mr. Jenkins came all the way from Chickeraffe Island for this party. Who knew Chickeraffes could read. “Thank you all for coming to my boyfriend’s party. We have a lot to do today so I’ve put a checklist of all the things that we’re going to need for his party. Did everybody look through the checklist?” “Yes but I have a question.” Replied Mrs. Am-I. “Ok, what is it, mother?” “What do we do when Sam comes? Do we need to put down the decorations?” “Mr. Jenkins and I will keep Sam busy while the rest of you are busy with the preparations. Why? Is he here?” He looked around frantically for the little knox. “No, not yet.” “Thank goodness.” Guy relaxed himself and continued to talking about his plan. “Now, if someone sees Sam walking towards the house, what is our code word?” He asked everyone around the room. “Is it green eggs and ham?” E.B. guessed. “No, not green eggs and ham because that’s way too long even for a code word. Good try though.” “Is it Samuel?” Gluntz guessed. “No, not Samuel. Any other guesses?” He looked around the room hopefully. “I’ll give you all a clue: the code word is in you invitation.” And just like that each person rapidly looked through their invitations for the answer. McWinkle carefully re-read his carefully to make sure he didn’t miss the code word. “Guy! I think I’ve got it.” He said. “Perfect, McWinkle! Would you like to tell our guests the answer?” “The code word is Jenkins?” “Ding, ding, ding! We have a winner! Don’t you see, whenever he hears his name being called, he’ll immediately distract Sam by playing with him and snuzzling him. And I’ll distract Sam by taking them out to lunch or do a fun challenge of how many backflips they can do.” “You all get to work and keep an eye out for him. I’m going to check on my inventions to see if any of them blew up.” He then left the others to set up the food, presents, and drinks. Sam was approaching their house as he normally does until he saw Gluntz looking through the window. “Jenkins!” She called and opened the door. The giant chickeraffe obeyed and dive-bombed into him. He laughed as he tried pushing him off but no use. Guy then came out running. “Baby! What are you doing here? I’ve been busy with a new invention and I didn’t expect you to be here.” “What’s the invention? Can I see it?” Sam was about to walk around him so he can get inside but thankfully Mr. Jenkins stopped him. “No! This invention of mine has been having difficulties. For some unexplainable reason, it keeps blowing up!” “Maybe I could fix it! I did help you build that rocking horse rocket that got us out of the junkyard. Maybe I can fix it.” ‘Yip! That was the wrong thing to say.’ Guy thought. “Sam, since you’re here maybe you’d like to go out for a while with me and Mr. Jenkins.” “There aren’t a lot of places for him to go though. He destroyed a lot of diners and restaraunts due to either his fear of fleas or just being his wacky, unpredictable self.” “No offense, buddy.” He rubbed his soft feathers. Guy looked back at Gluntz who gave him a thumbs up. “I’ll be right back. I need to go see if my invention is working.” “Wait. Why is Gluntz in our house? Why is Mr. Jenkins here? And why am I seeing someone carrying a cake?”
Guy looked back to see that someone was carrying a cake in front of his eyes. ‘If Sam finds out anything about this party then it’s all ruined.’ He rushed back inside as fast as he could leaving Jenkins alone to distract Sam. “He saw the cake! We have to move it! If he knows anything about his party, it’s going to ruin the surprise.” He told Michellee. She looked puzzled. “Did you try giving an excuse as to why he sees a giant cake? That’s what I do to E.B. whenever I throw surprise parties for her.” “Michellee! You’re a genius! Keep it where it is and I’ll keep Sam talking until we’re ready.” He rushed outside and Jenkins was curled into a little puffball while Sam was stroking him. He looked up at Guy “did you find out what the mysterious cake is for?” He asked as if he didn’t know the answer already. ‘I know it’s a birthday party. But whom is it for?’ He thought. “Sam, do you know what day it is?” “August 12th. Why?” Guy looked back and Gluntz walked outside. “We’re ready to start. Bring him in.” She whispered in his ear. “I know you didn’t have a lot in the orphanage. But one thing that I didn’t know you never had was a real party. So, in honor of you, Sam-I-Am, my darling boyfriend,” he turned on the lights and everybody jumped up from their hiding places. “HAPPY BIRTHDAY!” They yelled. Sam was speechless. He knew right when he saw that cake that it was party. But he never knew the party was for him. “Guy! You maybe full of surprises, but this is the best surprise yet!” He wiped away some of his tears and gave him a sweet warm embrace.” The party kicked off right away with cake. A green velvet cake with creame cheese icing and frosting. With a cute fondant model of Sam, Guy, and Mr. Jenkins at the top. After everyone got a slice, they each presented their gifts. Michellee got Sam a cookbook of all the ways he could cook green eggs and ham. The Bad Guys presented a list of charges to him before he ran off to ‘sell’ Jenkins to Mr. Snerz. However, Gluntz did give him pack of Flannel Candy. E.B. made a little plushy of Mr. Jenkins which made him teary-eyed because that was how he and Guy met. The Am-I family gave Sam a couple of their photos of all of Guy’s embarrassing childhood. Each one was funnier than the last until Sam doubled over on the floor laughing. Guy rolled his eyes while he smiled. Seeing him happy was everything to him, however, he’s going to get payback for that.
After a full night of fun games and dancing the night away, everybody thanked Guy for the party and wished Sam another happy birthday one more time before getting in their cars and driving off. Mr. Jenkins got a ride with the Bad Guys because the walk back to Chickeraffe Island would be too far and long for him. “Sam, follow me,” Guy said. “I have two very special presents for you.” He led him to their balcony under the full moon. He blew on a couple of their windmills to give the night more color. “I’m so excited to see my gifts, Guy!” “And as you know, whatever they are, I’M GOING TO LOVE THEM FOREVER!” A thousand thoughts were swarming in Guy’s head. ‘What if he says no? What if he doesn’t like the ring? What if this doesn’t go as planned?’ But Sam’s words ‘whatever you give me I will love them forever’ struck him. ‘I’m going to do it this time. I’m going to kiss him.’ Without warning, he planted a long kiss straight to his lips. Sam was still for a little bit but then kissed him back. “Best. Birthday. Ever.” He said in between breaths. “And that’s not all.” Said Guy as he pulled out a ring case. Inside was gold ring with Sam-I-Am written on the top. He dropped to one knee “Samuel I Amuel, will you marry me?” The words filled Sam’s head like a giant overflow of water. “I will, Guy-Am-I. However, I have one favor to ask you.” He dropped on one ring and pulled out the same gold ring with Guy’s name on it. “If you will marry me first.” “I will, Samuel, I am yours until the end of time.” Tears swelled up in both of their eyes as they both put their rings on each other’s fingers. “Don’t you think we should’ve done this while everyone was here?” Sam asked. “I wanted to but I was afraid of what you would say. So, I kept it hidden until now.” Guy replied. “That’s funny, because I was going to propose too but my fears were getting to me too. But I’m glad that we both said yes!” Sam and Guy then leaned in for one more kiss under the rainbow night.
