Wendy blinked in surprise as the stranger ducked behind her. She’d been on an afternoon walk, admiring the lovely tufts of clouds drifting through the blue sky when the man broke her attention. She glanced at the hat clutched in his hands and traced his sight to the man standing several paces away. The man fumbled to grasp at the empty air above his head, clearly searching for the hat. Wendy raised her eyebrows and smiled. She knew this man. He’d once attended one of her father’s formal dinners and had been particularly unkind to Frances, one of her father’s sweetest maids. In her mind, the man could stand to lose a hat. Maybe it would humble him a bit.
“Don’t you worry about your hats. I think they suit you far better than me. But I find a cup of tea lovely on any occasion.”
Jefferson glances up at the empty space above her head with squinting eyes, attempting to picture what type of hat would look best. “I think a nice straw sunhat with a beautiful blue bow or perhaps flowers - but mostly blue. the blue would bring out your eyes.” It’s been awhile since he’s made a hat for someone other than himself. Though he used to do it for the horrible queen of hearts, he still enjoyed it. That’s about all he enjoyed when around the queen. . Perhaps he would be able to convince her by the end of their tea. That would be wonderful!
“I do agree with you. Tea time is all the time!” They were going to get along splendidly, he could already tell. It was the kindness in her eyes that was pulling him in. “Where is your favorite place to have tea? I’ve once had tea upside down and sideways. Always with sugar.”
