“Listen, the last thing I’m doing is playing monopoly tonight.”

It was easier and best to meet in the abandoned alley to ensure that he didn’t blow his cover after being seen with an Avenger tended to attract eyes. The hood she’d been wearing as pulled down, the sunglasses she’d been wearing rested on top of her head as she studied the man opposite of her. “Thank you for agreeing to meet me.” Their paths had crossed one too many times for her not to request the meeting, which he could have said no to, but the fact that he hadn’t gave her a glimmer of hope, enough for the next statement to leave her mouth. “I think both of our lives would be made easier if we agreed to work together on this case.”

A cup of steaming coffee is clutched in her hand freshly poured from the waitress who’d just left her. “And what brings you to New York this time?” She’s suspicious about majority of people, almost to a fault, finding it exceedingly difficult to trust anyone after the Avengers went their separate ways. “Surely you’re not here for sight seeing considering they’re still working on the Statue of Liberty.” Natasha speaks with a hint of humor to her statement before nodding her head for him to join her at the table outside of the small café. 

Silence settles between them as the younger Widow finishes talking and it takes Natasha a moment to realize she’s supposed to say something. “I don’t get it.” Her head shaking as she looks Yelena over once more almost certain she missed a sentence somewhere. Her attention might have been pulled to figuring out what she was ordering from takeout. “What’s the punchline?” 

Natasha looks up with a narrowing of her eyes for the smallest second before the sliver of amusement crosses her face. “It’s either really bad or really messy if you’re coming to me.”

“Come on now, I know you’ve got better stories then that. It’s been how many years since I’ve see you?” A small smile paints her lips as she leans a little further back into her seat before electing to speak again. “I could bore you with tales of aliens all day but we both know you’ve got the good stories.”

“You know they keep trying to throw these parties to raise money like we’re some charity case.” A snort leaving her as soon as the words are out of her mouth as though she finds the thought funny. "But, I suppose they’ve got no other way to go about it unless they’re going to drain Stark’s funds.” Natasha knows that’s not an option, he shouldn’t have to fund their chaos.

The long day has turned into a long night, her head resting in her hands with elbows on the table. It had been a mess that felt like each step they took made them three steps behind. That was how most missions felt these days... like not matter how hard they tried they couldn’t get ahead of the lead that they were chasing. A door opens and she looks up to see just who was invading her space, hues locking on the brunette before deciding that Becky would be a welcomed distraction from her own thoughts. “Was anyone injured enough to come bother you?”
