i so badly want ralsei to have her moment to "shine" like kris and susie have. a single, undeniable proof of resolve that affirms her spot not among the fun gang, but as a hero. susie's had several by now, between her final hit on king to protect kris, her chipping the black shard off the knight's sword, the famous shattering of the "final tragedy". even her less "badass" moments like her opening up about her past to tenna or the way she assured ralsei through her own pain and fear in honestly several instances across the game but most prominently at the very end of the third sanctuary. even kris has proven their spot as a hero, independent of our input, between the multiple instances of jumping in the way of susie getting hit and actively preventing us from making bad choices or being mean to ralsei or fighting against us during the weird route.

ralsei has the fire magic scene in chapter five to save susie and shattering the sound of justice, but the latter is so quickly brushed off (by ralsei themself) that it's not really given the time for the player to understand the weight of that moment, and ralsei again brushes off her use of fire magic in chapter five. this is a big part of why i don't really think it will happen, nor that i'd be upset if it never does, because ralsei clearly seems to be against "proving her heroism" the same way susie has just by being susie.

but man with how a solid chunk of the fandom treats ralsei as a replaceable and disposable protagonist, and the way noelle's being set up to enter the picture in chapter six and her kit being strikingly similar to ralsei's, i really badly want ralsei to prove that she's irreplaceable. not to the fun gang (susie most certainly doesn't need proof and i doubt kris does either), but to us. to the players who still believe she's not necessary, even if they won't admit it. to the players who don't give ralsei the attention they deserve, the admiration susie provides in spades. for ralsei to prove that they do have what it takes to stand up to the roaring, to defy the tragedy waiting for them at the end of the prophecy, to write her own fate.

After finishing Deltarune Chapter 3 and 4, I started to brainstorm ideas for what the next shadow crystal bosses would be like. My immediate idea was that since Kris and Susie had at least one fight that connected with/draws parallels to each one specifically, I figured that one of the next next bosses would be designed to connect with Ralsei. And it seems like a good few people are also in that line of thinking. I then started thinking of how they would connect with Ralsei. Like maybe they have a fear of freedom and don't feel like they deserve it and that can be their whole thing. Similarly to how Ralsei feels he doesn't deserve to properly express himself.

I had all these ideas, but there was one thing I couldn't shake off that kind of led me into thinking about something else. It was how, no matter what I thought, I wanted the next shadow fight to be a female character. Now, I think I know why I feel this way. When coming up with characters, I have a somewhat tendency to put a little bit of myself in them, and that sometimes means making them a girl. But also because I realized that so far, most of the shadow crystal fights have been male. And yes, while I do consider the Roaring Knight themselves to be the shadow crystal fight of ch3, and that they might be one of 2 female lightners, I'm kind of hesitant to say they count as the female shadow crystal fight. Because we are not supposed to know who the identity of the knight is at this point. Right now, they are supposed to be this mysterious figure. And even if they do end up being female, meaning we technically did get a female shadow crystal fight....I would like another one...because I'm greedy, lol. But also, so there can be more balance.

You know, I've seen others express this desire as well. Even back when chapter 2 came out, people have said that they wanted a female shadow boss in the future. But recently I've also heard that it is out of a greater desire to have female darkners in more prominent roles....and, the more I think about it... yeah. Gosh, now I feel bad that the 2 new characters I've been hyper focusing on are males lol. Because outside of Queen(who is great btw) and maybe Elnina, what other girl darkners serve a major role? I honestly don't know if this is a big of a deal as I am probably making it out to be. But, when you see other people bring it up, it's kind of hard not to think about it. And what do I think? It would be pretty nice to see a female darkner be an unhinged little gremlin. I would really like to go to the shadow boss and go "Auntie take you meds, please!" But that's just me.

I mean technically I got what I wanted. Just not in the way I thought (honestly pretty much sums up my experience with chapter 5 as a whole; technically I got what I wanted just not in the way I thought)
