Today’s a special day! Today is not only Father’s Day, but Alex and Ariel Hirsch’s birthday! Let’s celebrate by cracking open your copy of Journal 3, prepping your blacklight and invisible ink pens, and jotting down everything here in the special edition so you can have a copy for yourself without resorting to eBay or shady second-hand Craigslist deals!

I was lucky number 02149 to get a copy of the special edition of Journal 3. Well, lucky as in “I could afford to buy it and pre-ordered it back in March the exact day I heard about it going on sale.” Still, I am PSYCHED to share this with everyone! Admittedly I didn’t take photos of every single page – only the ones with black-light effects that were more than ink spatters. Some I had to take [kinda big] pictures of individually, to be able to read the text properly, and others were multi-page spreads that I couldn’t resist capturing in their beautiful glowy glory.

Of course I’ll be captioning them all for you, in case you can’t download/read them. Also, there’s a few secret codes in here! But did you really expect anything less? Also also, this is a 9 page word document (not counting pics), so I’m splitting it up into 3 parts. Especially considering the size of these pictures. 

Some devices have a setting that will erase data after a certain number of failed password attempts, and it’s reasonable to suspect that Fiddleford and Stanford wouldn’t have allowed someone like Dipper to spend days inputting dozens of failed password attempts before initiating the data erase. If the laptop had that safety measure, it would have kicked in long before then, assuming an approximate 10 attempt maximum similar to an Apple device.

The whole point of this feature is to prevent sensitive information from getting into the wrong hands, but the way it’s done is ridiculous, especially coming from two very intelligent people like Fiddleford and Stanford. It allowed an unauthorized individual dozens of attempts and then provided a 5 minute window for one more try.

A bit too convenient, unless there happens to be a dream demon around who has already expressed interest in making a deal.

Then there are the two scenes featuring Dipper and Bill which share several similarities: Dipper is alone with the laptop, he yawns and shuts his eyes, something out of the norm occurs (the moon turning into Bill’s eye and the data erase alert), and then the scenery goes gray as Bill materializes.

One of the most important things to remember is that Bill Cipher cannot materialize in the physical world. Gideon was put into a dream-like state after summoning him, the gang only saw Bill after entering Stan’s mind, and we see Dipper wake up screaming after his conversation with Bill, confirming that they were inside the mindscape.

This means that at some point during the data erase scene, Dipper was asleep. It’s confirmed by Mable during the puppet show fight with Bipper that he was sleep deprived, so it could easily have occurred with the same transition as before: he yawned and shut his eyes.

If Dipper fell asleep during this brief moment like he did before, then the alert warning him of the impending data erase could be a simple manipulation of the mindscape by Bill Cipher. In which case, the threat of losing important information didn’t exist, and Dipper’s body was possessed by Bill for no actual reason.

In conclusion, the design of the data erase program was unrealistic, as it allowed far too much leeway to the person attempting to hack the computer, and the similarities between the two scenes where Dipper speaks to Bill, coupled by the fact that Dipper had to have been asleep in both, creates reasonable belief that he was asleep when the data erase warning occurred. If so, then it probably wasn’t real to begin with, which means Bill invented the threat to push Dipper into a corner and force him into making a deal.

A lot of you guys, like me, are wondering what deal Bill made with Blendin to possess his body. But I’m thinking Bill didn’t even make one. To tell you why, let me remind you of this:

The moment where Gideon is preparing to make a deal with Bill-but we’re never shown what the nature of the deal was. All we’re shown is this:

Whereby the time Bill has began weirdmegeddon, we know that:

1. Gideon had already fulfilled his part of the deal- hence the “Bill came through”, implying that Bill has returned the favour. 2. Gideon’s request was to release him from prison, or was one of his requests. So how does this relate to Blendin’s possession? Now that concern’s what Bill asked from Gideon. Take a stroll back to “The Stanchurian Candidate“. Here we see that Gideon is able to accomplish mind control. So what would happen if Bill possessed Gideon when he was controlling, say, Blendin Blandon? I think Bill found a loop hole in the rule : to possess one’s body, a deal must be made.

Now this may be pretty far out. What’s the proof? The proof is that Blendin doesn’t show key characteristics after Bill leaves his bod.

In “Sock Opera”, we see these rules apply to possession: 1.The soul must be pulled out of the body 2.The soul can follow the body to know what is happening to it 3.The soul must dive back into the body to reclaim it

So why was Blendin Blandon confused?

After Blendin regained consciousness, he had no idea what was going on. Albeit, there was a time period between the event where Bill left his body and Blendin recovered it, but I don’t think Blendin’s soul dived back in during this period. Rather, I think he was regaining consciousness after being mind controlled. 

If it had been possession, Blendin would have had some idea of what was going on, but he didn’t. With mind control comes short term memory loss, proved when Stan was mind controlled by Mabel and Dipper.
