Mill Hill: East Macon Arts Village is a neighborhood revitalization effort to develop four blocks of the historic Fort Hawkins Neighborhood in East Macon into an arts village in order to address blight and foster economic opportunity. This creative placemaking initiative is a partnership between neighborhood residents, Macon Arts Alliance, Macon-Bibb County Urban Development Authority, and many community stakeholders. Blimey. Bragg Jam's all wrapped up, with a bow a bit askew, but looks just gorgeous in my eyes. After some intense weeks, months, sleepless nights, grumpy days, we pulled off something quite lovely, enjoyed by many groovy folks. We got to show off what Macon can do, both to our own community and to those from far flung spots (like the exotic region of upstate New York). Seeing a helluva lot of smiling faces, and a buttload of seriously sweet social media chatter, makes every ounce of stress forgotten. I can't wait for next year... Well let's not go that far. I'm immensely excited for a few months of chilling on the couch and catching up with some serious Star Trek and ice cream with mah boo. But yesterday, feeling battered and bruised, but groovy and chill, I felt that this gif was hella appropriate for the way I feel about our bloody brilliant board. I love the snot out of you a-holes.
Floco where you beeeeeeeeeen??
Love me some Floco.
When a tree fell in a Macon park, an artist decided to bring something new to life: Three owls carved into the remaining stump. Chris Lantz has created a new conversation piece in Tattnall Square Park.

The Reverend Pearly Brown was a fixture on the streets of Macon for decades.
The blind preacher, guitarist and singer would take the bus from his home in Americus to Macon, getting a hotel room down on what was then Broadway. Then he’d hit the streets, performing his blend of Piedmont Blues and Gospel tunes. A white coffee cup perched on the tuners of his guitar was there for payment.
Meanwhile, in the larger world of folk music outside of Georgia, Brown was a luminary. He played the Newport Folk Festival and the Grand Ole Opry and toured college campuses.
In the 1970s, David Scott of Macon would meet Brown at the Trailway bus station on Sunday. Together they would walk to radio station WIBB where Brown would play his weekly show of Gospel tunes.
Like Brown, Scott is disabled, though not blind. Scott says that Brown could sense his limp as the two made their way to the studio with Scott acting as the older man’s eyes.
In this edition of Songs on Site, David Scott talks about his weekly appointment with Rev. Brown and folk singer John McCutcheon, who met Brown at a folk music retreat in the 1960s, covers Brown’s signature song, It’s A Mean Old World.
