This is how I see it.

Clouds over Devon.

The slow-flooding tide.

Finally, toward sunset, Sidmouth.

Here's one I sailed earlier.

Nearly done. Sea to finish.

Old chain. Surreal in black and white.

A few more hours in, and the sky is starting to take shape. All the wash base has been blocked over. Still looks like nothing much, but a more structured nothing much, at least.

So this is what it's like to start a painting. This is an oil, some 20"x30" and is inspired by a strange afternoon ice cream looking out over the Channel from Sidmouth, England. So far, just a bit of under painting wash and blocking in some basic structure. Looks like nothing very much at the moment.
