My friend wants to write the story about Boyd’s new life based on the video “Drift Away animatic evil boyd AU” alternative ending where boyd didn’t fire at them and this idea interested me from the comment “A” on youtube. I’m using Picrew to design one of the characters; a female reader from either “Clustering Wishes” or male reader from “Vanished Haikyuu” on Quotev credits goes to the person who made this fanfic; l like the way it’s written but I’ll add some things to it. Which universe would be best suited for Boyd’s new life, the oc will be named y/n or m/n. Please pick out one of the two options and good luck! I showed this to my friend to give her a reaction and she explained to me what she thought of the animatic in her perspective. After watching this video, I honestly felt terrible for Boyd in this AU. Everything that happened to him feels incredibly unfair. It's easy to understand why he eventually became "evil" when you look at everything he went through. He felt forgotten, abandoned, replaced, and betrayed by the people who were supposed to care about him. Seeing Gyro move on with someone else and build a family of his own would only make those feelings even worse.

While watching, the "A" comment caught my attention and I asked myself and imagined a different outcome. 

What if Boyd never fired at them? 

What if, in that moment, he realized his anger and pain were controlling him? 

Instead of attacking anyone, he could have unleashed all of those emotions on an abandoned, crumbling building nearby. Boyd destroys the building, then immediately runs away from home and out of Duckburg before anyone notices.

Somewhere far from Duckburg, Boyd finally breaks down. He's alone, crying, convinced that nobody truly wants him. In his mind, even his father, Dr. Gearloose, abandoned him and replaced him. To people like Mark Beaks and Doofus, he was never a person—just a tool to be used for their own benefit. Both of them cared more about money and power than they ever cared about Boyd as an individual.

Then a mysterious figure appears and offers Boyd something he never thought he could have: a fresh start. A new family. A new life. However, there is one condition—he must give up all of his memories. Boyd hesitates. He thinks about everything he has suffered through every painful memory and every disappointment. After considering it carefully, he accepts the offer. I also think it would be interesting if this mysterious person secretly investigated the entire Tokyolk incident. Imagine them gathering evidence, uncovering Dr. Akita's real motives, exposing his crimes, and revealing the truth about what really happened to Inspector Tezuka and the police in Tokyolk. They could show everyone, and Gyro and Fenton who Akita truly was behind the mask. Then, after seeing all of this, Gyro finally realizes the full impact of his actions. He begins feeling overwhelming guilt and remorse for how Boyd felt. Determined to make things right, he sets out to find him, apologize, and explain everything.

But would he succeed?

Would Gyro manage to find Boyd and bring him home?

Or would he discover that he waited too long and late?

Would Boyd have already built a new life and a new family?

And if Gyro comes face-to-face with the mysterious figure who gave Boyd a second chance?

Would he demand Boyd be returned, only to learn that Boyd now has the freedom to decide for himself where he belongs?

I've been thinking a lot about what Boyd's new life could look like. I have two ideas.

The first option would be a life inspired by "Clustering Wishes RWBY" on Wattpad. This version focuses on found family, friendship, adventure, standing up for what's right, and even a little magic. Most importantly, Boyd would finally experience a healthy environment where he isn't neglected, abandoned, or treated like a weapon.

The second option would be something inspired by "Vanished Haikyuu," although with some adjustments and original ideas added in. It would still feature adventure, growth, and meaningful relationships, but without the constant pain and loneliness Boyd experienced before. Both possibilities would give him opportunities to grow, learn, and discover who he wants to be.

One thing this video reminded me of is how toxic Gyro's time under Dr. Akita must have been. Akita always struck me as manipulative, controlling, and emotionally abusive. The fact that he left Gyro alone to face the consequences of the first Tokyolk incident says everything about his character. That kind of betrayal would leave lasting scars on anyone. It's no surprise that Gyro carried those wounds for years. He blamed himself for Boyd's actions and internalized every failure. Watching the flashbacks, especially the moment where Akita dismissively referred to 2-BO as "just a drone," was heartbreaking. You could see how much those words affected Gyro.

Akita never believed in Gyro's potential. His comment, "Face it, intern. You'll never invent anything worthwhile," reveals exactly how he treated him. He constantly undermined Gyro's confidence, dismissed his achievements, and made him feel insignificant. Looking back, it's painfully obvious that Akita sabotaged Boyd from the very beginning. If Huey hadn't defended Boyd, Akita's plan could have succeeded. The city might have been destroyed. Countless innocent people could have died. Boyd himself could have been lost forever. What makes it even worse is that Gyro almost destroyed the very child he created because guilt and fear clouded his judgment. Akita manipulated the entire situation. He allowed Gyro enough freedom to create Boyd's personality because he knew he could eventually weaponize that trust. Gyro built someone kind, compassionate, and hopeful. Akita later tried to overwrite all of that with Protocol: World-Breaker.

When the Tokyolk incident happened, Akita got exactly what he wanted. Gyro took the blame. His confidence shattered. Even though the charges were eventually dropped, the damage remained. He lost Boyd. He lost his reputation. He lost faith in himself. Over time, that pain hardened him. He became cynical, defensive, and emotionally distant. Some of that bitterness even ended up being directed at Boyd, which was never truly fair. Gyro felt betrayed because he believed Boyd was more than a machine. When everything fell apart, it shook that belief. But the truth is that Gyro was right all along. Boyd was never the problem. Akita manipulated both of them and treated them like pieces in a game. He is the one responsible for everything that happened.

When Gyro finally confronted Akita, he was forced to look at himself honestly. What frightened him wasn't just Akita—it was seeing how much of Akita's behavior had rubbed off on him. He had become bitter, isolated, and convinced that his past failures defined him. He even repeated some of those harmful patterns with Fenton. In many ways, he treated Fenton similarly to how Akita treated him. The difference is that Gyro isn't Akita. Gyro made mistakes, but his intentions were never malicious. He genuinely wanted to help people. He wanted to improve the world through science. Despite all of Gyro's flaws, Fenton recognized the good in him. That's why he stayed. Gyro isn't a monster. Akita is.

I don't think Gyro's history of inventions going wrong comes from carelessness. I think it comes from fear. The trauma of Tokyolk haunted him for years and affected his judgment. But after defeating Akita, he finally found the courage to stand against the shadow that had followed him for so long. Still, defeating Akita isn't enough if Gyro continues believing the lies Akita taught him. Whenever Gyro says his inventions are "just misunderstood," I think he's talking about himself as well. He doesn't need Akita's approval. He never did. And Boyd proves that. Boyd is living proof that Gyro created something extraordinary—a machine with a genuine heart. A real boy in every way that truly matters. You can tell how much love and care went into Boyd's creation. Even after all the abuse, reprogramming, manipulation, and abandonment he suffered, he still remembered Gyro. The first thing he said when they met again was Gyro's name.

That memory stayed with him. The memory of being welcomed into the world by someone who loved him. That's why Boyd proudly calls himself a "definitely real boy" and rephrases his name BOYD (Be Only Yourself Dude). That's why he loves hugs. Those traits didn't come from programming alone. They came from the love Gyro showed him at the beginning. In many ways, Gyro shaped Boyd the same way a parent shapes a child. And when Boyd hugged him after Akita's defeat, it felt clear to me that Boyd had forgiven him. He still wanted Gyro in his life despite everything. The saddest part is realizing that Akita spent twenty years preparing his revenge. He deliberately used Gyro's love for Boyd as a weapon and tried to destroy both of them in the process. But he failed. Boyd survived. Gyro survived. And now they finally have the opportunity to heal and continue their life forward.

That said, in this AU, I still believe Boyd deserves better. He deserves a loving and supportive environment where people accept him exactly as he is, whether he's considered a person, a robot, or both. It's on the inside that counts. He deserves to be loved, appreciated, respected, and valued. He deserves people who truly see him.

Recap: When I saw the “Drift Away – Evil Boyd AU” animation, I felt genuinely awful for Boyd because what happened to him was unfair—of course he turned evil when he spent his entire life feeling forgotten, betrayed, abandoned, and even replaced, especially with Gyro moving on, finding someone else, and having children of his own. Someone on YouTube mention if there’s an alternate moment where Boyd, realizing what he’s doing, doesn’t fire at the family but unleashes all his pain on an abandoned building instead before running away from Duckburg at incredible speed, sobbing because he believes no one wants him—not his dad who replaced him, not the greedy pigs like Beaks and Doofus who only saw him as a tool, not anyone, and there only using him for money and fame. And in that loneliness, a mysterious figure finds him and offers a new life, a new family, and safety in exchange for his memories; Boyd thinks of everything he has suffered and ultimately accepts. People seen those Gacha reaction videos of DuckTales characters too, so I picture the family in this AU reacting to the original Tokyolk incident, with Huey uncovering within minutes how Dr. Akita sabotaged Boyd’s core memory and manipulated everything. I mean, imagine the mysterious figure showing the audience evidence of Akita’s crimes, his plans, and his cruelty—exposing his true nature. Afterward, Gyro is crushed by guilt and remorse, realizing how much he failed Boyd and feeling desperate to find him, apologize, and explain everything. But will he succeed, or will Boyd already be too far gone? Will Gyro meet the person who took Boyd and demand his son back? Meanwhile, Boyd might be living a new life—maybe something peaceful like and I’ll try to make a vote and someone will write the story and share to all of us to read

And when you look back, the truth becomes painfully clear: Akita’s work environment was toxic and abusive, tearing Gyro down with cruelty, telling him he’d never make anything worthwhile, calling Boyd “just a drone,” and sabotaging Boyd from the start. Gyro internalized that trauma, blamed himself for Tokyolk, grew bitter, and even unfairly placed some blame on Boyd. Akita manipulated everything—pretending to trust Gyro, letting him shape Boyd into a kind child only to overwrite him with Protocol: World-Breaker later, planning for Gyro to take the fall. Gyro lost everything: Boyd, his reputation, his confidence, himself. But Gyro was never the monster—Akita was. Gyro’s inventions weren’t careless; they were overshadowed by fear and trauma. And when they finally defeated Akita, Gyro saw how he had unknowingly repeated some of the same cruelty, especially toward Fenton, but he also realized he wasn’t truly like Akita; he never meant harm, he always wanted to help the world, and Fenton saw that. Boyd himself proves that Gyro is good: even after all the reprogramming and pain, Boyd remembered Gyro’s love—the first thing he said when he saw him again was his name. He hugged him because Gyro built him with love from the start. They both survived twenty years of Akita’s manipulation, and they deserved to heal together. But in this AU when Boyd turned evil, Boyd never gets that chance. Boyd deserved better to be with a family who loves him just the way he is and give a place that is called home; a true home. And Akita’s own words—“You’ll never invent anything worthwhile,” “He’s not a boy,” “Protocol: World-Breaker,” “You are the ultimate weapon”—show exactly what he was: a monster who saw potential only as destruction and cared nothing for the lives he destroyed.
