Embrace is to grow. . The Goldman Sachs #10ksb program is allowing me to step back and appreciate the darkness and tough times. It’s allowing me to reflect and focus on what’s gone wrong and the flaws in business so I can learn from them. It’s allowing me to laser focus on my strengths and not my weaknesses. Views from the top 🤔👀🙈 👇🏼 Since a young age we have been conditioned to respect and admire the person at the top. These can be business owners, entrepreneurs, presidents, coaches, and various people in power. Yet, what I’ve realized is how often we neglect to understand the difficulties and decisions these people have to make. Keep in mind, I’m not asking you to feel bad for them or cut them a break. They know what they signed up for. However, what I ask is that we begin to empathize with all people. 👇🏼 The past few weeks I’ve realized that I’ve become less empathetic to others, and that’s something I’m working on daily. By doing so I am asking for the same in return. One skill I possess is being able to relate to my clients, who are mostly small business owners. One of my favorite traits is being able to put myself in the shoes of the customer to reverse engineer the architecture to capture their attention and pain points. I guess this is a form of empathy, but not quite. My improvements can be made from interpersonal relationships, yet I seem to point the finger assuming they can empathize with me. 👇🏼 The world is smaller, yet I feel like we’re more disconnected. We have hundreds of ways to communicate at the touch of a button, yet we haven’t talked to good friends in years. In a way I can empathize here because everyone is busy and has a lot going on, yet I still find myself reaching out to old friends. This is also why I have been posting more in hopes to reconnect with old friends while also building awareness so they understand what I’m up to without even having to ask. 👇🏼 You never really know what someone is doing or thinking without asking. In order to ask you have to first care. Before you care you need to empathize. It’s a process. Life is about perspective. 👇🏼Read below👇🏼 This past week someone asked me what I did for a living and I briefly explained how I own and manage these 3 businesses. She said, “Wow! You must be successful.” As I thought about it, my mind raced in multiple directions, as my perspective on the situation was much different. Success is subjective. It’s based on your own internal view and perspective. For some, getting a great job is a success. For others, maybe buying a house is a success. Well, I don’t have either of those things. But, do I want a job? No. Would I like a house? Yes, but from an asset investment perspective. . My bar is set high. Really high. I don’t just want 3 businesses. I want to own pieces of many. I don’t just want to own one house. I want to own many (for the sake of traveling and exploring the world in those countries I own). Now, will these things happen and are they my true definition of success. Yes and No. . These are goals. Goals take time. So many ‘entrepreneurs’ these days are motivated my the wrong things and I believe have a stereotypical definition of success. Car, watches, girls, parties. Sure, that’s cool, but it’s perspective. Many people don’t realize the hard work, dedication and patience needed to achieve their definition of success. . Now, to answer the pending question of “am I successful?” Yes and No. I’m honestly just getting started and have so much left to accomplish in life and business. However, personally, I would say yes. I love my life and where I’m at. I have great friends and a very loving and supportive family. . Now once again, this is my perspective. Your life and your perspective could be much better or worse. Just remember, it’s YOUR own view on it. Someone else will always have it better or worse. Stop comparing. Live YOUR Life. . Step 1. Understand . The main thing I notice from entrepreneurs is comprehension. . They understand 3 important things in life. 1. Who they are (and what they’re good at) 2. What they want (short & long term goals) 3. The market itself (so they can compete) . Life is long, but if you start young, it makes achieving those goals attainable. If you don’t know what you want to do, or what you’re passion about, that’s alright. What’s not alright is taking forever to figure that out. The sooner you understand those 3 things the sooner you can work to achieve them. . Granted, this is for entrepreneurs. If you want to be a school teacher or accountant that’s a different story. We all can’t and won’t have the same goals and path in life. . In college I realized I was an entrepreneur and meant to work for myself. I just didn’t know what I wanted to do and what my goals were. So my advice would be to try everything, and quickly. Fail and fail fast. . Great meeting my new friend Gordon Stein yesterday with OCF. He realized at 18 in school at Drexel that his calling was real estate. He followed that calling and built a life for himself. Now he’s reverse engineering those goals to accomplish them strategically. . Awesome meeting!
