I GOT A FUCKING RAISE THE POTATO WORKED WTF
This potato works. Every. Fucking. Time.
Then bring me luck
the day after I posted this last time I was notified that I was selected for a really cool mentorship gig and got an unrelated glowing review at work
My new medication produces some really crazy dreams. It’s disconcerting, but I accept them as a small price to pay for the stability I get from the medication.
I’ve never gone three weeks without having some sort of freak out before and for that, I’m thankful. #mentalhealth #bipolar #bipolardisorder #medications #dreams
Bereavement should always qualify for sick leave. Grief is a real mental health issue. Mental health issues are health issues. This seems obvious, and yet, so many places don't allow it. We should all be working to change the stigma. Nobody should have to work ill. For some of us, that might be the flu. For some, it's overwhelming grief. For me, it is often depression making it impossible to get out of bed. There will be arguments about "abuse of the system." Those arguments just make me angry. If your system is getting abused, ask yourself why you've created a work environment that drives all of your employees away. Then fix that. I promise the abuse will go away. I also promise you, those of us with mental health issues are having a fun, Ferris Bueller's Day Off adventure when we take a mental health day. Most of the time, I'm either unconscious our seriously fighting for my life against an enemy that never stops coming. I'd much rather have the flu.
Thoughts MCU Phase 4 After Seeing Wakanda Forever
Okay. I couldn't sum up my thoughts about Wakanda Forever into a one-minute Tik-Tok video. So, now you have to read them.
After seeing this movie, I think I understand why some people are having a problem with MCU Phase 4.
When the MCU got started, all of its movies were basically the same.
Good Iron Man fought evil Iron Man.
Good Thor fought Evil Thor (Robot).
Good Captain America fought Captain Nazi.
It was so obvious it became a trope. But, as the MCU grew and matured, it began to evolve.
We complained all of the movies were the same and they started making changes.
We started to see a superhero movie that was also a spy thriller.
A superhero movie that was also about PTSD.
A superhero movie that was also a midlife crisis movie.
At some point, the meter of superhero movie to other genre passed the threshold of no return.
Wakanda Forever sold that to me.
This is a beautiful, well-written, well-acted drama about dealing with grief, pain, loss that happens to have superheroes in it.
She-Hulk is a legal comedy that also has superheroes in it.
Multiverse of Madness is a Sam Rainey classic B-horror that also has superheroes in it.
Ms. Marvel is just My So-Called Life…. That also has superheroes in it.
These are not superhero movies with a taste of second genre.
These are other genres with a taste of superheroes.
This is what I love about comic books in general. It is what people outside of this fandom have never understood.
It is why the DCEU is so bad compared to the MCU.
Comic tell stories of every kind. That is their power. It is why we love them.
They are targeted at children and that means they keep the stories themselves fairly simple and straightforward.
Early Marvel movies did the same thing.
But, the main audience for movies is not children.
It is the people who love these stories but are adults. I rarely see anyone under the age of 20 in the theater with me when I go to a superhero movie anymore.
What Marvel did was take those stories and add nuance and complexity to the story themselves. It made more mature versions of superhero films that are actually more mature versions of superhero films.
DC's mistake was making grim and gritty superhero movies and thinking that made them more mature. It just made gritty movies with simple plots that no one enjoys.
Marvel has evolved so each movie is its own thing as part of a universe.
They no longer need every movie in the universe to appeal to every audience and they shouldn't make them that way.
This is what people hate. They don't get it.
And that’s okay. The billions of dollars Disney rakes in proves they really don’t need to.

A have a gripe with some of the ways organizations are collecting feedback these days. Anonymity is important. Tracking who completed every survey skews the results. If your organization has cultivated a culture of being open and honest about issues, you don't need to have your employees sign their name because they are comfortable sharing that opinion anyway. Any other situation, you should look at why you are demanding to know who's opinion it is. I can't think of a single healthy reason for you to need to know. And I guarantee, you aren't getting honest results from employees who feel like the trust and privacy are being constantly violated #Leadership #OrganizationalCulture #TrustYourEmployees
I just did a presentation for the agency on effective 1-on-1 meetings. I tried to really emphasize the importance of open vulnerability in the workplace. I practice what I preach. immediately afterwards, I had a conversation with my boss that really honed in on some of my biggest struggles and insecurities as a person and an employee. I am petty open about my mental health in general, but today I admitted to some things I've only ever talked about with my therapist before. It got intense and a bit hairy, but I also know all of that came from a place of genuine concern and compassion. I am thankful to be able to have those conversations. That is an example of what a good leader does and how they make someone feel. #mentalhealth #leader #mentalhealthawareness #servantleadership #vulnerability
I have a doctor’s appointment tomorrow afternoon to talk about seeing a psychiatric specialist because my therapist thinks I was misdiagnosed by my general practitioner. I have a MDD and GAD diagnosis and she is pretty sure what I have is BPD2. I am currently in day three of what is probably a hypomanic state. The perfect mental space to aggressive fight my doctor just because. I told a coworker this morning I should wear a Mr. Yuck sticker when I’m like this because I’m basically antifreeze. I may seem all sweet and preferable to the bitter depression, but I am way more dangerous.
In March 2020, I co-created an internal training webinar called "Meet and Eat." The original purpose was to provide a daily resource for remote workers to feel connected to the agency and ask questions about tools they'd had only a short, fast training on before being sent home for a year. Over time, it grew into what is now a weekly Teams meeting with presentations on a variety of topics across the spectrum. We train on policy and procedure, leadership skills, Office 365 tips and tricks, and anything else someone asks about. Unplanned, it also became a bit of a platform for me, personally, to discuss important issues I face, particularly my mental health. As the show has gone along, I've been able to be very open, honest, and transparent about the things that impact my life. It has been one of the most fulfilling and rewarding experiences I've ever had. Over the last two years, I've had multiple coworkers tell me how much it means to them for me to share those struggles and to highlight neurodiversity, mental health issues, and the normal day-to-day struggles we all experience. I don't think I tell them often enough how much it has meant to me. Sharing these struggles and advocating for these issues is one of the few things I do that guarantees I will be pulled back from the darkness. No matter how bad my depression is, doing this show always helps me back into the light. Everyone should be comfortable talking about their mental health. Everyone should feel secure with asking for the help they need or advocating for what they need. Unfortunately, we're not all in a place were we feel safe enough to do that. So, I am here, actively encouraging all of you who are to advocate for the people you know who are not. It is good for your mental health.

Everything Is AWFUL and I’m Not Okay: Questions to Ask Before Giving Up on Yourself
Are you hydrated?
If not, have a glass of water. Dehydration can mimic or increase feelings associated with anxiety and a well hydrated brain functions optimally. Avoid excess caffeine.
Have you eaten in the past three hours?
Don’t be a victim of hanger! Get some food–something with protein, not just simple carbs or high-fat. Nuts, hummus, and veggies are great options to feed your studying brain. Keep healthy snacks within reach to avoid mindlessly chowing down on sweets.
Have you stretched your legs in the past day?
If not, do so right now. If you don’t have the energy or time for a run or a trip to the gym, just walk around the block or building. Even minimal exercise preps the mind for learning so that you can focus better and recall things easier, plus it’s good to get a change of scenery.
Have you said something nice to someone in the past day?
Do so, whether online or in person. Make it genuine! We bet your study partner would appreciate a compliment.
Have you moved your body to music in the past day?
If not, jog for the length of a song at your favorite tempo, or just dance around your bedroom for the length of an upbeat song (singing along is a bonus)
Have you cuddled a living being in the past two days?
If not, do so. Don’t be afraid to ask for hugs from friends of friends’ pets. Most of them will enjoy the cuddles too; you’re not imposing.
Have you started or changed any medications in the past couple of weeks, including skipped doses or a change in generic prescription brand?
That may be screwing with your head. Give things a few days, then talk to your doctor if it doesn’t settle down.
If daytime: are you dressed?
If no, put on clean clothes that aren’t PJs. Give yourself permission to wear something special, whether it’s a funny t-shirt or a pretty dress.
If nighttime: are you sleepy and fatigued but resisting going to sleep?
Put on PJs, make yourself cozy in bed with a teddy bear and the sound of falling rain, and close your eyes for fifteen minutes while focusing on breathing deeper with every breath- no electronic screens allowed! Adequate sleep is a necessity for stress management.
Do you feel ineffective?
Pause right now and get something small completed, whether it’s responding to an email, loading the dishwasher, or tidying up your room. Good job!
Do you feel unattractive?
Take a darn selfie. Your friends will remind you how great you look. You are always insta-worthy.
Do you feel paralyzed by indecision?
Give yourself ten minutes to sit back and figure out a game plan for the day. If a particular decision or problem is still being a roadblock, simply set it aside for now, and pick something else that seems doable. Right now, the important part is to break through that stasis, even if it means doing something trivial.
Have you over-exerted yourself lately–physically, emotionally, socially, or intellectually?
That can take a toll that lingers for days. Give yourself a break in that area, whether it’s physical rest, taking some time alone, or relaxing with some silly entertainment for a little. Time spent refreshing yourself is never time “wasted!”
Have you waited a week?
Sometimes or perception of life is skewed, and we can’t even tell that we’re not thinking clearly, and there’s no obvious external cause. It happens. Keep yourself going for a full week, whatever it takes, and see if you still feel the same way then.
You’ve made it this far; and you will make it through. You are stronger than you think.
Because someone might need this today
You have survived 100% of your worst days.
This too shall pass.
This looks an awful lot like my eDRK!

Buttigieg speaks logic to Marjorie Taylor Greene’s utter nonsense.
In 48 hours, we got a painfully lucid statement: the valley is not ruled by the best or the brightest, but the loudest and the richest. In short, Musk bought a company with a product that’s somewhat difficult to describe for reasons he has had a great deal of trouble elucidating. He didn’t want Twitter, he wanted to prove he could buy it, and he wanted everybody to think it was cool, which they did not. He has spent $44 billion in an attempt to make people love him only to be left with a very expensive way to make people angry at him every single day for the rest of his life.

I’m supposed to talk about things….
Power of blog necromancy activate! So…. I started therapy a couple months ago. It’s been… helpful. But, I’m supposed to start looking for creative outlets again. See, it’s become pretty apparent that trying to live in normal society is killing me. I don’t fit. I never have and I never will. My journey isn’t supposed to be about forcing myself to fit. It’s about getting healthier. I can’t do that…

I’m mentally ill in the era of madness…
If you’ve known me or read my blog for any length of time, you know I am not exactly “sane.” For most of my life, I went undiagnosed, but anyone who knew me knew something wasn’t quite right. Well, a couple of years ago, I finally was given a diagnosis, Major Depressive Disorder and Generalized Anxiety Disorder. Recently, there has been talk about the possibility I’m misdiagnosed and I’m…

I’m a bad blogger. You know how I know? It’s been over 2 years since I posted anything. It’s been even longer since I posted anything of substance. I don’t even know where to start over, but I have been feeling the call to do it for a long time. I miss the self-indulgent navel gazing. I miss the oversharing of my emotional turmoil with random strangers on the internet. I miss make jokes about…
