Ravio spun in a slow circle, scanning his house for the umpteenth time.
βSheerow?β he said again. Despite already having checked them, opened his cabinets and riffled through the various piles of junk shoved inside. Still, no sign of Sheerow.
She had to be somewhere. Right? And she should be able to hear him calling for her. She always came when she was called. Usually. That would be, unless she had died. Or was injured and left unconscious somewhere. Or stuck, trapped and scared where he could not reach or hear her.
But no, she could not be dead. Surely.
He didnβt know, not for sureβ¦ He couldnβt know. Not yet. Butβ¦
Images of what might be flashed through his mind. She could be somewhere dangerous all alone. He might stumble across her body bloody and broken. Maybe she was already dead. Maybe her body was already infested with wriggling things he could almost feel crawling under his own skin. Or maybe some wild animal found her lying there defenseless and all he would find would beβ¦
βStop,β he muttered, shaking his head in an attempt to dispel his thoughts. He willed his imagination to stop being so over-active. It was silly, really, wasnβt it? To immediately assume the worst?
He needed to keep looking. And hoping.
He shook his pouch of Sheerowβs favorite seed. Nothing. There was no sound of flapping wings or familiar chirps.
Oh dear. No, no, no. Not her. Not Sheerow. She canβt beβ¦
Ravio tried to calm his breathing but his heart was too fast and his head was too light and the ringing in his ears was only getting louder andβ¦
He tried to block out the images pounding at his mind. Just for a second, he closed his eyes. That only made it worse.
Outside. He still hadnβt checked outside. Ravio threw on his boots as fast as he could and made sure to grab his ice rod just in case. Despite the possibility of only confirming his fear, he was out the door in a matter of seconds.
His flurry of movement halted in an instant.
He stared at the weathervane in front of his house, at Sheerow.
She was fine. Perfectly fine, just sitting on the weathervane, pruning her feathers like she had not just scared him half to death. She was not dead. Sheβ¦
Barely breathing, Ravio walked to her. Alive. Once he was close enough, he extended his hand. It trembled.
Sheerow hopped onto his hand and looked up at him curiously. As he focused on the very real feeling of Sheerowβs talons on his palm and her slight weight, he tried to feel relieved. She was safe, after all, clearly. He should have felt relieved.
βDonβt do that,β Ravio whispered, βDonβt scare me like that. I thoughtβ¦ Not you. I canβt lose you too.β
His words turned into a strangled sob. Hugging himself with his free arm, he looked around, alert, straining his ears for any noise and eyes for any movement.
Everything remained quiet and still. His exhale shook like the rest of his body. He was fine. Sheerow was fine. So why did it feel like everything was still wrong? Why was he still so filled with dread?
Ravio forced his legs to start moving back to his house.
He closed the door behind him, then collapsed more than sank to the floor.
Another sob racked his body as he sat there. Sheerow hopped down onto the floor next to him. He dared not take his eyes off her, like sheβd somehow disappear from existence if he looked away, as ridiculous and impossible as that sounded.
He had already lost so much. He never knew his parents, at least from what he could remember. He was raised by his aunt for most of his life, but when he had been only nine, she disappeared into the night with little more than a word. He was taken in by the royal family after they discovered his talent with magic, but the king died a year after. Two more years later, Lady Prima, attendant to the royal family sacrificed herself for him when he had been stupid enough to go across the sea with her to the countries of Termina and Garoboe. And most recently, he was losing Hilda as well, this time to the leech that was Yuga. If he lost Sheerow tooβ¦
Sheerow nudged his knee.
βAm I worrying you now too, buddy?β Ravio forced a laugh at the show of concern through his tears, though it did not really sound like one. He sniffeled. βSorry about that. Ha, I always jump to conclusions, huh?β
Sheerow just stared up at him and cocked her head. Alive.

The most beautiful thing I've recently been blessed with seeing is this connection all lorule au and lorule duo fans have with concepts.
Somehow, in some way, we share a braincell. All these aus come in unique flavors and textures, but they all come from the same branch of soul.
Somehow, I have this feeling in my gut that if we connect all lorule aus we have so far, we could actually create a timeline that could actually make sense. I believe.. I have #HopeAndWhimsy

I have several...but at the moment the one in mind is Tempo/Rondo AU Link!! I haven't spoken much about Rondo au, and the art I have planned for it is still trapped in WIP hell π I think about him and Rondo Zelda a lot though. Specifically how to make his life worse πππ
Idk his first adventure involving time travel, meeting past heroes, the fragile nature of Time Itself, and the realization that he's part of some great cycle would probably have a lasting effect on him--at least when he's older. Something about having a broader awareness of the timeline but not the means to change it. Being hyperaware of every choice you make because even the smallest one might lead to a terrible future.

Not really for both, but I did have ex-Yiga ocs for the first zelda au I ever made!!
I think I only mentioned the Hylia Possession au here only exactly once. It was a very rough idea that I'm not sure I'll go back to soon. But these two are from that au! putting it below a readmore because WOW this became longer than I intended-
The one on the left is Aren, she grew up in the Yiga clan but defected after being offered Delicious Soup by Aryll/Link's sister (it's deeper than that, but the soup was the main gesture). He now works as a postman and loves her job. Aren is also a half-demon due to a supposed curse on her bloodline. The "curse" was purified (not dispelled) after he spent a while collecting gratitude crystals.
Growing up among the Yiga, as well being half-demon, Aren's feelings towards the goddesses are indifferent at best and downright negative at worst. After the some stuff happens in the au, She begins to resent Hylia specifically, as well as the Master Sword. Ironically, he ends up being the Sage of Shadow in this era. Something which annoys her to no end.
The little guy next to him is Kie! Also a kid when he fell into the clutches of the Yiga clan. Aren knows what it's like to grow up in such an environment, so she tries to nudge Kie towards leaving the clan in small ways despite Kie's distrust of him. It works though! Aren lets Kie temporarily stay at her place until Kie figures out what to do next. Well, temporary became permanent. And now the two of them consider eachother family β They don't acknowledge it out loud and insist on referring to eachother as roommates. Kie decided to study medicine and works part-time at the local clinic. He also finds joy in foraging for wild plants that can be used for food/medicine. He still hasn't completely shaken off his old life though. He's still at least a little wary and cold towards anyone that isn't Aren.
There was supposed to be a third guy here: A white wolfos that Kie somehow befriended and can understand. It's the only other person Kie trusts fully; to the point that they have an agreement that the other person can eat them should one of them die.
The wolfos and Aren don't get along, but they try to tolerate eachother's presence lest they get scolded by Kie.
